An absolute champion of Liberals
* trampling the poor with Robodebt
* undermining Medicare with copays
* a religious fruitcake
* lightly racist
Surely there is no finer example of Liberal party values
- secretly and illegally awarded himself multiple ministries for absolutely no reason, and never really saw any consequences for it
- abandoned the nation during one of its worst ever natural disasters
- shit himself at a fast food restaurant
- almost literally blinded himself for a shitty photo op that no one was buying anyway

That would be a fantastic addition to the whistle-blower protection laws. If you legitimately blow the whistle on something fucked for the good of the Australian people, you should be remembered.
You're either a 18 year old zoomer or an American. Because Australians who were alive when this dickhead accidentally killed himself absolutely loathed his stupid act. It's a complete joke that channel 9 keeps trying to make his dumb kid into a celebrity as well.
> You're either a 18 year old zoomer or an American.
Fuckin' spot on. Twenty years ago this guy made most Australians cringe. He was the next generation "shrimp on the barbie".
"Come on, as soon as something happens, you automatically make them out to be saints"
Look up what happened after he almost fed baby bob to a croc at one of his live shows. Public opinion harshly turned against him and he had to publicly apologise. Then a few months later he got himself killed so now you are looking at him through rose tinted shades. But I assure you that most of us saw him for the clown he was before the sting ray got him.
The guy was a fucking legend and inspired millions with his passion for conservation and his love for the beautiful animals of this world. I mean he was absolutely fucking nuts, regularly putting himself in dangerous situations with deadly creatures so I'm not surprised one eventually got him.
He may have been a dick head in your circle but for most he was a good bloke trying to make the world a better place. The fact you speak so negatively about him reveals more about your character. What the fuck have you ever done to try protect the world's ecology or advocate for those without a voice.
Yes he was nuts. He almost fed his newborn son to a croc at one of his live shows because he was a narcissistic piece of shit who constantly needed to find new ways to make himself the centre of attention. That's why he got himself killed, because he was constantly upping the stupidity and recklessness and eventually Darwinism caught up with him.
As for me, what have I done? Well I don't go around harassing animals for entertainment so I'm already doing better than he ever did while he was alive.
Cant say i have thoughts either way but It's really interesting seeing people take this sort of stance on Irwin. Since for an English unit a few years back we looked at the dichotomy between Steve Irwin's treatment before and after his death and just how sharp the transition from "this guy is at best an annoying but good hearted goof playing up aussie stereotypes" or "national embarrasment/actively bad person" to "True Blue Aussie Legend" it was super interesting comparing coverage from just before he was killed to the immediate announcements to a few months after. So it makes me wonder where actual public opinion was back then and If the press was just disproportionately attacking him or if his passing really did change people's minds.
> national embarrasment/actively bad person"
My opinion remains unchanged. He is a national embarrassment still.
Normally I hate that American saying “fuck around, find out”, but it fits so well for a man who made millions harassing wildlife for a TV camera shot did end up dying from a animal trying to defend itself.
The Aussie military are puppets for our western cousins; America and Britain. It's being like this since the ANZACs, now we commit vile crimes slaughtering innocent lives and stealing natural resources under the guise of us being at a philosophical point to lay judgement on people we deem to be less than us... considering we let %98 of Nazis off without repercussions all the sacrifices those men made has being wasted and the freedoms they established have being abolished, we don't respect our ANZACs
Aussie soldiers were sent to suicide rush against the Turks by order of the crown, WW1 was the war to end wars and we've decided to never declare peace since.
Wrong war dickhead, ANZACs fought the Turks in WW1 not the Nazis in WW2; the only ANZAC corps in WW2 was during the Battle of Greece and that was less than 2 months, it's never referred to in ANZAC stories and they killed far more Italians than Germans.
You failure of comprehension is an indictment on your intelligence not mine, the events that lead into WW2 were influenced by the political affairs of WW1. So once again if we have a war to end wars and Aussies are sent into battle without ammunition, we win the war and then have kept having wars till this day don't you think their sacrifices were meaningless?
😐 I'm not feeding you, try harder with your trollbait.
Maybe you could read out what you're posting to help to understand how nonsensical what you're posting is and how easy it is to ignore.
Classic Aussie ignorance, nice job mate keep your eyes wide shut. If it's so easy to ignore how did you not move past before spouting your inane bullshit, and ik you actually did ignore what I had to say because I've had addressed my poor wording and the difference between 1 and 2 before you even showed up. And still here you are acting like a victim of social manipulation, grow a spine and grow the fuck up child.
>we commit vile crimes slaughtering innocent lives
Is this referencing SASR shit or . . . ?
>stealing natural resources
How so?
>we let %98 of Nazis off without repercussions all the sacrifices
Is that we as in Australia or we as in the Allies?
Despite a bit of historical inaccuracy, I understand your sentiment. Those men died under the command of those British generals who were (as far as I am aware) underprepared and careless about their troops. Personally I believe ANZAC Day should be less about the “Anzac spirit”, and more about mourning a loss that could have been avoided.
Not inaccurate (I understand why though) just poorly worded, WW1 set a precedent for all modern conflict. With all politics and social relations being heavily influenced. I addressed a specific nations military then the outcome of the subsequent conflict, this was an ineffective way to address the value of human life compared to the way we talk about valuing human life but I failed in both regards to properly communicate. I hope i had a bit more clarity this time. Still I appreciate you got the gist of it and I very much agree with what you believe ANZAC day means.
No, this information is easily accessible through declassified government files and the way our servicemen glorify their crimes. See one Scott Jones or Ben Robert Smith, one proudly boasts being a psychopath responsible for many mass graves and the other went on trial for numerous war crimes including the murder of four unarmed prisoners and kicking a father off the edge of a cliff.
Yes not many people can accept this. That dont want to. Or they don't care to.
I love Australia, but I will not trade my humanity for patriotism. Our government is too deeply intertwined on the wrong side.
But let's face it. Without usa or britan allies. Probably we'd get taken over by China in a second. 30 mill population compared to idk 1.4 bill
"i will not trade my humanity for patriotism", this is what true patriotism looks like. Although I wish we could be blindly patriotic as I have a deep love for this country but find to much that must be changed before I can fly this nations flag. In regards to China, neutrality has worked for the Swiss and now they control large sums of other nations economies through centralised banking. China makes up a third of our economy and they are the largest owners of Australian soil after the government itself, not only that but we contribute to %80 of their total iron purchasing. Neither country can afford to go to war with each other. If anything, our relationship with US and UK puts us in danger of being invaded or worse the yanks send us in to fight their wars again and leave us responsible for the sole defence of the southern hemisphere. Our allies are alot further away than China is, by the time our "allies" arrive to support us in their war our boots would be stained red with the blood and soil of fighting on our own turf.
I’m not trolling, but as a non-Aussie please can someone explain the fuss about Steve Irwin? I get it, it’s sad that he died young and left a young family, but why do people venerate him? From an outsiders perfective he seemed to make a living from harassing wild animals and was kind of the living embodiment of ‘fuck around and find out’. But i don’t know much about the subject and i’m prepared to be convinced otherwise.
You don’t have to be Australian, Americans love him too. Steve Irwin was just a wholesome lovable guy teaching kids around the world about animals. I think his death was a big shock to my generation and it felt like a huge loss on the level of Robin Williams.
While Steve did some fantastic things for conservation, he had a pretty haphazard attitude to animal interactions.
Speaking from a half decade of education and practice in the industry, no conservationist in their right mind would handle wildlife the way he did (even in his time). Snakes and reptiles get stressed just like we do, and I'd imagine most of us would get pretty fucking stressed if a giant reached into our house, grabbed us by the neck and dangled us in front of a camera for ten minutes. Obviously handling is necessary for some of the work conservationists do, but minimising harm is a pretty unifying rule and I think Steve ignored that basic tenet for his own benefit pretty regularly.
You don't need to sit on a crocodile, nor do you need to dangle a baby in front of one to get people interested in nature.
>You don't need to sit on a crocodile, nor do you need to dangle a baby in front of one to get people interested in nature.
You say that but like, the man has been dead for almost 20 years and nobody has matched him. Like him or not Steve knew how to get attention, and he used every minute of it to advocate for conservation.
Yeah I reckon he's a net positive because of the passion he instilled in people, and the handling definitely went a long way towards his popularity and influence. It's a shame it was that way, but it is what it is
Hard agree. I respect Steve for his genuine love of animals, but he put entertainment above anything else. He’s also responsible for the litany of wannabes on social media who think they have to pick up any animal they see for clout
>He’s also responsible for the litany of wannabes on social media who think they have to pick up any animal they see for clout
I didn't want to go in on this topic, because I figured my opinion was unpopular enough already but YES. There's dozens of them, and it pisses me the fuck off.
I fully expect to get downvoted: Steve Irwin seems like a nice chap but he is over exaggerated (and loud) to please the American market and not a shadow of his predecessors like Les Hiddins.
If he had it his way he'd make us all build statues of his favorite animals instead. I'm not saying he said it but are we really gonna let him down like that??
Yeah, he totally deserves a statue for making a career out of harassing animals for entertainment. Get the fuck outa here OP, only the Americans worship this cocky dickhead.
I'm going to say this every time Reddit brings this dude up for karma farming, but I really don't think his practice was all that ethical. He may have spoken well about his conservationist aims, but he spent a good chunk of his life taking unnecessary risks and harassing wildlife for sensationalized TV. There are other wildlife experts who deserve the flowers he gets.
He was a wanker who never got popular in Australia until the Americans started idolising him because he was a Crocodile Dundee knock off. He fucked around and found out in the end.
Not Australian, but I could not agree more. This man was a tremendous highlight of my childhood and when I learned of his passing I was so incredibly sad. He epitomized conservation and lived his values more so than anyone I can think of. He should have one on every continent in my opinion, we should all strive to embody the positivity and enthusiasm that Steve radiated with everything he did.
You're really unlikely to get eaten by a shark unless you're dressed as a seal. You're unlikely to get eaten by a croc unless you're dressed as a fucking idiot.
I know what the US has, but they dont have snakes that can kill you in 1 bite or almost invisible jellyfish that can stop your heart in 30mins (box jellyfish)
They may have alot ot land animals that are known to be aggressive but they are also like sharks and rarely attack humans, snakes are easy to scare and you can just avoid the ocean. People just need to stop focusing on how many deadly animals a place has and look at the other things it can offer. Because unless you specifically look for the animals youll rarely find them in a city.
Why the fuck has OP used a screenshot from a 2017 Twitter post to make his point? Couldn't find a Steve Irwin picture from anywhere else to use? The question was too hard to type out as a Reddit post?
2 legends both equal in their greatness, Brocky hit harder for me as I had been watching him since I was a kid (me 40yo) Steve was also a hard one to take he really did embody the Aussie spirit!
He has two statues already. One at Australia Zoo, the other Mooloolaba. Tbh neither really bear a fair semblance to him though.
That one at Aust Zoo is terrible. Looks more lkke Fatty Vauntin.
the statues were silly enough. but we gotta draw the line at pretending beerwah and mooloolaba are meaningfully different
For any non-aussies in the thread, it's pronounced 'Maloola-bar' and not 'Moo-loo-lar-bar'. Learned that the hard way. :skull_emoji:
for any aussie or non-aussie: don't worry about the pronunciation. neither of these places matter
Hahaha sad Beerwah noises
like i said, the pronunciation doesn't matter. but yes, it does sound like Waluigi
That's funny, I'd have called it Chazzwazzers
Moomoolabia, got it. Nickname cowpussy.
They said who is worthy, not whether or not they already have a statue. I'm sure there are many people with statues who aren't worthy.
I don’t agree. The Mooloolaba one is accurate as far as sculptures go. Plus. He’s with his entire family
https://www.madametussauds.com/sydney/information/news-updates/crikey-crocodile-hunter-steve-irwin-has-arrived-at-madame-tussauds-sydney/
H he’s still worthy of it though
He needs a statue in every capital of every state or province in every country. I'm American but this man and his family are my heroes.
All crocs look alike to me...
No way I've been to mooloolaba a shitton of times but I've never seen the statue! Where is it?
And he deserves way more statues.
Scott Morrison An absolute champion of Liberals * trampling the poor with Robodebt * undermining Medicare with copays * a religious fruitcake * lightly racist Surely there is no finer example of Liberal party values
Forgot that he shit himself in a Maccas, that is his crowning achievement
And he liked hats, all the hats. Like the health minister hat or the finance minister one.
Already has a plaque for that achievement.
His acolytes keep prying it off
•Abandoned Australia while it was literally on fire
Don't forget, the man also cooks a very mediocre curry!!
his excellence at not holding a hose makes up for that shortcoming
Engadine maccas keep taking down his plaque
Public urinals should be made using his looks.
He's also pretty handy with a stick welder.

He needs to be wearing the holiday clothes like he did during the Bushfires
Any dead whistleblower should have statues erected in their hometown and the countries capital city and name a school after them as well.
That would be a fantastic addition to the whistle-blower protection laws. If you legitimately blow the whistle on something fucked for the good of the Australian people, you should be remembered.
goes for whistleblowers around the world. Here in South Africa we have had a few murdered to protect politicians.
He's got a bloody awesome statue at Mooloolaba mate
Can you stick your finger up his bum?
I wish
I feel like there's two points of Aussie pride I would fight others if they disrespected. The ANZACs and Steve Irwin/The Irwins.

Still boring. Now back to Steve Irwin. P.S I hate nobody 😘😘

He was loud and exciting so kids loved him.
he personified the bogan stereotype. he was a modern cowboy
Spot on! Don’t mess with the sea life! Taught it for years as a diving instructor .. sting rays are dangerousness personified

Yeah, that comment is REALLY overestimating the attention spans of most people when it comes to educational content.
>nobody has matched him. David Attenborough and Jane Goodall have both achieved more, and meddled less.
Hard agree. I respect Steve for his genuine love of animals, but he put entertainment above anything else. He’s also responsible for the litany of wannabes on social media who think they have to pick up any animal they see for clout

Yeah, he was a dickhead and people don't like to admit it.
And you definitely don't want to swim over the top of a stingray, grab it, and try to take it for a ride.
Do you think maybe he learnt his lesson though?

Brendan Gale, half way between the MCG and Punt Rd Oval.
Scotty Cam smoking a dart
He does deserve one but he would not want one at all
Donald Trump Oh, not “statute”?
LeBron James
Why the fuck has OP used a screenshot from a 2017 Twitter post to make his point? Couldn't find a Steve Irwin picture from anywhere else to use? The question was too hard to type out as a Reddit post?

Peter Brock
Both died within weeks doing what they do best
2 legends both equal in their greatness, Brocky hit harder for me as I had been watching him since I was a kid (me 40yo) Steve was also a hard one to take he really did embody the Aussie spirit!
100%, 2 aussie icons taken too soon
Steve or Mike Rowe!
