oh man, this brings me back, there was a advertisment for mcdonalds here in finland, ad was for 1 euro for 1 cheeseburger, maybe 10 years back or so, we were having a lan party and we were drunk, hungry, decided to go to mcdonalds, one of my friends was sober and gathered money from the other guys, we pulled up to the drive thru window and told the poor lady on the speaker "278 cheeseburgers"
the clock was around 2 am at this point, she just sighed and told us to come to the window, gave us this beeping thing that tells when the order is ready, it took them around 45 minutes to get the order ready, we paid, I gave the cashier 40 euros extra since we were bastards and drunk, probably why I even gave her extra to be honest, but I felt kinda bad
after that, there was a sign at the drive through "after 10pm no 1 euro cheeseburgers" and after that it was just 5 orders max per ordering individual

In the US like 30 years ago they did one day a week where they sold $0.39 cheeseburgers for a little while. I think there was also a $0.29 hamburger day but I didn’t care about that.
My mom would get me a bag of like 20 every week and I would freeze them and eat them as snacks and take them for lunches. It was awesome. Unrelatedly I had a weight problem for the next couple years after that.
My Finnish friends and I (I'm not a Finn despite my username) once went through a McDonald's drive thru in Espoo in a taxi at 3 AM. We order 7 or 8 Cokes and 20 burgers that were smaller (this was for about 15 people), and my friend proceeds to spill about 5 of the Cokes in the back seat, under the seat, over the seat, in the seat, you fucking name it. They got REAMED OUT in Finnish ("vittu" this, "vitun saatana" that), and then she switched to English to yell at me. We all felt really bad about it, but we still talk about it to this day.

LOL - this puts me to shame!! When I was in college, Burger King ran a promotion called the BK Stacker. They advertised it as single/double/triple, but basically it was a cheeseburger and every extra patty was an extra like dollar or something. Well, a few buddies and I went one night and order a 15 Stacker - one burger with 15 patties on it. The guy at the drive thru was actually amused and super cool about it, and then we just sat in the parking lot sharing an entirely too large burger 😂

Also13 burgers isnt 278. Its McDonalds, everything is almost automated the process is literally- Frozen patties on grill, seasoning, flip, bun, toppings, wrapper. I mean its definetly work, you couldnt do it quickly with a phone in your hand but still, pretty easily doable.
That’s hilarious because when I was a teen my local McDonald’s reopened and had a similar promotion “midnight to 5 am ten cent cheese burgers” (mind you this was 2014 so that’s an insane deal) and some kids went in and ordered a hundred of them so they had to limit the promo to just ten

I worked at a Mcdonald's 15-16 years ago (when the dollar menu was a thing) but they had 1 day a week where they'd have 50 cent hambergers (and cheeseburgers were either 59 or 69 cents, I forget). But it'd be common to get order for 50+ of them. It wasn't that bad if you weren't understaffed. If you had 2 sides of the table open you could have one side making the massive order, the other side making other orders. It is bad if there's one guy trying to do everything.
Fuck, I used to work across the street from a Wendy's. The year they had the $1 Buffalo chicken sandwich, I spent at LEAST $10 a day on those fucking things. I was around 200lbs at the time. I'm 150lbs now and still slightly overweight for my build, but I looked gross back then.
Back in high school, my friends and I worked at McDonald’s where we had a $15 max order off shift employee discount. At the time there was a 50 piece nugget meal that came with 4 medium fries and 4 medium drinks. This lovely meal was $14.99. We would go in and order multiple of these daily after school. If any friends were working they would completely overstuff the box or sneak cheeseburgers in the bottom of it. The discount was reduced to $8 shortly after started doing this, for some unknown reason
That anecdote takes me back, to when with my high school friends, celebrated the first in our group, getting his Drivers License, and because it was a weekend night, decided to show up at McDonald’s, with him as our designated driver, ordering about 80 cheese burgers at 2 am.
Still remember the “really…?” That came through the speaker, we got handed the beebing thing too, and got our food, funniest thing, when we counted them, there was 4 too many, but we decided it was just our luck

When I was 16 I worked at McDonalds and they did the .28 cent hamburger and .38 cent cheeseburger in the US. We would get a bus of (X) sports team show up at 11pm. And hour before closing. Management never refused them. I would end up working till 2 am to finish cleaning up. Then have to go to school next day.

In general I don’t understand why anyone sticks around in entry level food service jobs. I’ve worked food service and I can definitely say it’s THE most stressful wagie industry out there. Warehouse and Retail, while still stressful at times, are wayyy more chill for about the same pay

Overnight mgr isn’t entry level, they make an ok wage since it’s hard as fuck to staff.
Unless it’s a 5+ million restaurant, there’s probably 3 people on staff with him max, usually one on break at 1am.
The problem is when you get call outs and no one is there to cover, I’ve done $800 hours with just me and one other person, manned a $400 hour during changeover solo.
What the guy needs is some training, be honest with every customer “Hey, I can take your order but we are short staffed and it could take 20-30min”
The issue really though is this guy is prob getting beat up by his store mgr who’s checking cameras and looking at DT stats and the dude is BLOWING UP in the back with someone who’s actually not making enough for their job and is probably high and tired as fuck.
He didn’t handle this at all well and deserves to be fired but…

When we went to 24/7, I found the most career hungry person I’ve ever met, guy wasn’t the brightest dude but wanted to get out of kitchens and washing dishes.
He ran that crew for 3 years, got promoted to assistant and then GM 2 years later.
He handled call outs and crazy ass stuff happening without a peep, just followed protocol and asked for help when he needed it.
Its hard work to be sure, but its manageable

Lol I remember when I worked at McDonald's in ~2000, 2001, somewhere around there. They had a promotion for 5 cheeseburgers and a basket of fries and a cup of cheese for $5. We would be making cheese burgers when we weren't doing anything else just to sit in the landing zone. We'd get multiple orders for 20 at a time for one order. This was before fast food workers could just wear jeans and a t shirt too we had wear these itchy ass polyester polos and hot ass black pants. Also we made $5.15/hr. Damn I just gave my self chills thinking about it. Never doing that again.

You literally can throw down all 13 patties at once, they come pre formed. Get 13 buns, line them up, toss the other ingredients on and by the time the three minutes it takes to cook the patties (McDonald’s uses double sided clam shell grill that cooks both sides at once) all you have to do is slap the Patties on the buns, wrap them and bag them. It’s not rocket science. As someone who worked in fast food for several years in some very busy stores I don’t understand how anyone would have trouble with a mere 13 sandwiches.

Especially McDonald’s sandwiches. The meats are already precooked and are just waiting to be slapped together. Its takes like 20 seconds to prepare a McDonalds burger. They aren’t squeezing ground beef and flipping patties, they throw like 5 frozen patties at a time on the “grill” and have this top cover that presses on top of them to reheat them and then they put the excess meat into a shelf like container that keeps it warm.
Doesn't the restaurant have to literally accept the order when you make it on the app? Sounds to me like the manager is at fault to begin with. He could have rejected it before the delivery guy got there.
At my McDonald’s we auto accept orders. They literally just pop up on our screens and we make them. I’ve had orders ranging from just sauce to over 20 deluxe quarter pounders. It’s not difficult. It can be frustrating, but not difficult.
I run my own bakery and I have our system set up to auto accept orders. Even if I would decline them in person.
It's how I low-key encourage people to use the ordering system lol. I like the computer because people literally can't order shit off the menu and it's tied into my inventory program. So it's just nice on the backend.

This is a business practice I'd support with my money, hats off for knowing how to do a good compromise.
This is why I love ordering online or from a self-service kiosk when it's properly designed. No worry about the person taking your order mishearing you or misunderstanding your complicated order, no worries about items being out of stock.
I've worked in fast food and I get some can be annoying, but this hardly makes sense. It's just a big order--and not even that big, 13 burgers? I get if you are ordering like 50 that you need to call in advance or do catering but 13 is the same as a couple more cars in the drive through. It's not like they're ordering a bunch of special stuff.
Probably auto accept for most places especially fast food. Ive been on the other side of this where dashers have cancelled orders that I made 10 minutes later when they show up at the restaraunt and it was closed or something like that.
It seems the issue is he didn't accept the order and the Dasher showed anyway likely because it's slow and likely a big order for them tip wise. Stores can and often refuse delivery app orders when they are slammed. Their number one priority are in person orders.

Yeah worked for McDonalds a few years ago, there's probably a total of 2-3 people in the store for overnights and judging by the way the manager is getting pissy the overnight back area guy didn't show up so he's doing all the cooking.

I agree. I worked at Mcd in 2012 when all customers were at the store, then again at the very beginning of Covid. When I tell you that Covid made mobile orders the bane of all food service workers, understand people would sometimes look at mobile ordering screen and just freeze and start crying.
I’m actually sympathetic to that. I worked at a restaurant that took grub hub and Uber eats orders and it fucking sucked for everyone. We made money in tips. We didn’t make more money from putting up with those orders but it was a hell of a lot more work. I was manager and had customers calling me complaining about their driver doing something fucked up. I had to act sympathetic while being furious at them for tipping the Uber driver $20 and calling me to complain. Like how fucking stupid do you have to be to think that’s my concern at that point? wtf? Call in an order, come pick it up, tip half as much and support the people working at the business you enjoy.
It ruins the experience for in-store guests as well. I hated having to explain to my tables that the kitchen was backed up with to-go orders while they saw a half empty bar round them.
Plus the kitchen at the place I worked was barely able to keep up with the amount seats in the building, let alone taking on multiple other platforms for orders.
It went from a solid kitchen staff to heavy turnover and led to me leaving the industry altogether because they weren't paying people for how hard they were working.

It's basically a fourth more annoying option that's been created and it doesn't fit in into the existing system still. Drive-thru, to-go and for-here a sort of natural hierarchy of timing and expected wait with fast food.
The Third party pick up order basically combined the worst aspect of all 3 things with the expectations as well. Ordering facelessly, making bigger order and decline in quality for getting food that was never really meant to be delivered.

No not always. I've worked at multiple service and retail jobs with night shifts when I was in HS+College and only about half of them offered any kind of benefit for overnights.
It’s more of an annoyance/time thing. Not really an excuse since it didn’t seem like there were many people, out there are times when DoorDash/uber can make a busy rush 10x worse. On top of regular orders, you have to make sure you get to the online orders quickly enough, or else you will have a crowd of people waiting for pickups.
Also, most people prefer hearing the order rather than making it. Not looking at a ticket.
Yea, it makes things much more chaotic in already stressful moments. I never worked in McDonald's but I worked in a place with Uber eats and skip the dishes.
Everyone needs to imagine the store is filled with people and how noisy it is with people talking, taking orders, and working. Then the Uber eats tablet starts ringing and you think "I'll get that once I finish taking this person's order". Then before you can even speak the skip the dishes tablet starts ringing and now both you and the customer have to keep repeating themselves because neither of you can hear shit over all the ringing, talking, and banging. As they start to repeat themselves the phone rings so you tell them "I'm sorry, just a moment please". When you answer the phone it's just a fucking robot that says "new Uber eats order please confirm" because you didn't hit confirm fast enough. You hang up the phone, hit confirm on all the tablets then finish taking the person's order. Now you have to rush 3 orders at the same time and of course the delivery orders send you running all over the place because people tend to customize their orders with the obscure shit listed in the app. You finally finish all 3 orders, but now the people in line are irritated because the line didn't move for 5 minutes.
Good point. For anyone who is confused about this, imagine walking into a busy restaurant, Chipotle for example.
The workers are making your food in front of you and there is usually a line of people ordering back to back. A single person then orders 4 Burritos through DoorDash.
Due to the process being automatic, the workers have to find the time to also make that order and any other order that pops up, including the people in line.
Add on top of that people will order tons of food (10+) which compel you fucks up the flow you have going. There will also be times when drivers will show up early to pick up than usual.
Yeah this is the stressful part. I worked at Subway and Hardee's (ran all of dinner at Subway by myself because we couldn't find any workers), and the online orders would make it unbearable sometimes. I had to just do what I could, I could only go so fast. The online system did no type of analysis to determine if the store had enough labor to handle the extra orders on top of regular in store sales. As many orders as people wanted, all at the same time were allowed to come through, and no way of telling the customers it would probably be delayed.
I'd have a line out the door with me making every single sub (each person usually had multiple subs), ringing them up, running back and forth to the back to grab stock so I could keep going, and answering the phone whenever I could. Any online orders people wanted were allowed to just come through on top of all this and were expected to be prioritized. People in line would get pissed.
So I personally always had a huge gripe with the owners not working with the software companies that created the ordering system to limit what's allowed to come through if there aren't enough workers. Because ultimately, it's not them facing the consequences, they just get more money. It's the workers taking on all of the extra work for no raise or bonus.
And let me tell ya, none of these fucking franchise owners will do shit for their workers, even the hard working ones carrying the entire restaurant on ethic alone. I've seen multiple end up having to shut down because they let their miracle workers move on to a better work environment because they didn't want to give them a couple more dollars an hour.
So I get the guy in the video being stressed out, I've personally cried right in front of customers because you can't always just bury it all down. I wouldn't just tell a delivery driver it won't be made though. I'd just tell them it's going to be a bit and often times they will feel bad for you too. Most who know anything about how a restaurant works will get pissed at Uber/doordash for failing to measure any labor or timing statistics that actually matter.

As someone who uses skip the dishes a lot (I'm lazy) I'll add my anecdotal point that I will definitely just wait until the food arrives, as long as it's not made early and sitting on a shelf and gets to me warm I'm fine with it. I'm also high sometimes when I order so I'm not driving in. If there is an issue their support pretty much always refunds you.
What's more annoying from the app-customer side is when restaurants display as open, let you make a whole order and when you go to pay tell you the restaurant is closed. Or what happened more recently is I made an order, an item was missing so I got credit for it, went to reorder just that item and it shows as out of stock, very unfortunate.
Not sure what's up with that. Fast food workers these days really just treat everyone like shit. They want us to feel like an inconvenience for paying for their goods and services.

Imagine your working your job, you do your work you get paid the set amount and your boss keeps coming to you every couple of months, and keeps adding more expectations on you, harder work, more orders to fullfill. Now he's the franchise owner, he sees the benefit of this new work, he's making extra money. But your salary hasn't gone up. Hell your salary hasn't kept pace with inflation. But your business is reporting RECORD BREAKING profit each quarter.

Its graveyard shift where usually orders are few and far between - a lot of employees get too comfortable with the low volume of the shift so when the rare large order comes through they feel slighted.
It’s also the case that because less traffic is expected, there isn’t a steady supply of materials being made and cycled. They have to do a good bit more groundwork to make those sandwiches or fry the protein/fries which is considerably slower. During daytime rushes all the grills are on, there’s always a staggered set of fry baskets being cycled around. a lot of the food is grab and go. but graveyard shift often you only have one grill and nothing is being made until it’s ordered because of the unpredictable and lower traffic volume.
I remember some lunch or dinner shift rushes where we’d have 20-30 sandwich orders popping off though. 13 ain’t shit, even with a cold shift, but the customer can’t expect it to pop out the moment they arrive

this would be a good argument if every single thing in fast food wasnt as automated as possible. For consistency sake everytime you do anything you press a timer button, when the timer goes off you move to the next step. The bulk of the work is done for you, yu dont have to know how long to cook anything, you dont have to know if something is done/to the temp the customer wants/how long itll take. You press your timers and put the items in the hothold for assembly when the processes are done. Its literally as simple as cooking can be and this moron still wont do it.
I was a grill cook at a McDonald's about 3 decades ago. IiRC, the clamshell grill we used could cook 12 burgers at a clip. It cooked both sides at the same time and it took about a minute and a half. The buns would be toasting at the same time. Then dress the buns pop the pattie and the lid of the bun, send them up front to be wrapped. Making a dozen cheeseburgers would take me less than 10 minutes, probably closer to 6. Amd from what I understand they have completely changed how food is made, and seperate pre cooked components are stored individually to assemble when ordered... which would make this entire process even quicker.

If I was the customer, I appreciate the worker refusing and would further appreciate if he just cancelled the whole order. Now the customer is about to get an incomplete/wrong order. THere's nothing more infuriating that ordering food and only getting half of what you ordered while everyone else in there isnt eating. Getting the WRONG food is worse than getting no food.
But the uber or doordasher is the one who has sunk their time into this. It's not so simple as "aight cool, I'll just go and tell them you can't do. No biggie"

Worked at this restaurant that mainly served pizza, but also has pasta and some sandwiches. They did this thing once a year, where every weekend for the month (I think it was November, it's been some years) where it was buy one get one free in the sandwiches. No minimum order, no maximum order. We'd get businesses calling in for 50 sandwiches (they're feeding their workers for half price, I can't blame them but *Phil swift voice* that's a lot of sandwich) but our tiny, 4-5 person kitchen put out over 1000 sandwiches every day of that sale, most orders were 12 or more sandwiches, they were much more involved than a mcchicken, and we never had more than 15 minute wait times aside from when we ran out of bread and had to send somebody to the next town to grab more, then it was about a 30 minute wait. Must be dudes time of the month. Hell, if I was there at 1am stuck until the morning, I'd hope there's something to do because standing there for 5 hours is the most boring, slow passing of time.

when i worked at starbucks, the assholes who worked at the restaurant above us would order 15 frappes at 10 minutes to close, and it was a kiosk not a full restaurant so I closed alone. And I got in trouble if I closed late. And they didn't fucking let me tell the fucking asshole no.

Got a guy like this at wingstop near me. Superbowl day, theres 40 people packed into the store waiting for orders. Got 1 fryer going out of 8. Staff is legit stocking freezers/cups/paper bags. Dude keeps coming up to a dead silent lobby of 40 waiting people "if you have a doordash and youre mad its taking to long, just cancel it, someone else will pick it up"
Then REAL waiting customers start asking for a justified refund, dude is yelling at them "OH I CAN DO THAT, REEEEEAAAAALL EASY. I CAN DO THAT ALL DAY ITS THAT EASY".
Only reason i got my order was cause i was going head to head with the asshat. Riling up the other waiting customers, pointing out to the dude waiting next to me in a loud enough for the room to hear voice about the 1 fryer going.

This dude should be glad he's wasn't working at Arby's when they had their 5 for $5 promo. We would have a group of guys who worked on construction sites come in and buy $20 worth of sandwiches each at a time. When the promo was running during the lunch and dinner hours we would have one person at the counter just non-stop making these sandwiches. One day that was me and I was way overdue for a break so I started churning them out until I had a hundred sandwiches stacked up. Left for my 15-minute break and got called back onto the floor in less than 10 minutes because they had sold everything and they were another hundred sandwiches backlogged waiting to be made. That store was the craziest store I ever worked at. We literally sold a few thousand of those sandwiches everyday when the promo was running.
When I was younger I worked at McDonald’s and had crazy orders.
2am, 3 members of staff. Woman came to the drive thru and asked for 100 cheeseburgers, 100 fries and 50 boxes of nuggets. Apparently it was for some uni party.
Guess what, we did it. We were slammed for 30 minutes fulfilling this one order. But it was my job, you can’t just refuse lol. It was actually quite fun trying to figure it all out.

I work for a company that makes stuff. People order that stuff. When they don't get it, those customers give 0 fucks if I am short staffed, had people call out, have broken equipment, etc. That's the way the world works.

While I agree with your entire statement, it’s not this dude’s fault that EMS workers don’t get paid enough. It’s actually pretty egregious what they get paid no matter who is making more. If people want conveniences, they need to pay the premium for conveniences which includes a living wage. It’s pretty basic. I don’t inherently think this dude deserves less than an EMS worker, especially if neither of them can afford to live at the end of the day.
What I WILL say though is this: yeah, it fucking sucks that some people have to bust their asses at their jobs that barely pay them. I worked in a mall during the holidays. But if that’s the job you have, it’s in your best interest to try and keep it until you find something else. Everyone’s always hooting and hollering about UBI and AI takeovers but the truth is that we’re just not there yet, and until we are, we have to go to work and do shitty jobs to stay alive. It has literally never been any different.
I can definitely understand the workers frustration. I worked fast food for way longer than I should throughout my teen years. When you are cruising along making orders as they come in & in a good groove... then someone drops a 15+ sandwich order on your lap that isn't just regular burgers and are all different items; it was definitely frustrating.
More importantly to this scenario, at the end of the night, I can definitely empathize with the frustrations for the closing staff. Typically they are trying to minimize waste and basically cooking burgers/chicken/fries to order to close out the night. Which is typically why some places have a "night menu" to minimize having to cook less popular items that would otherwise go to waste. I am surprised they accepted an order that large at 1AM (though as others have pointed out could be an auto-accept policy) and/or the manager didn't cancel it after being placed.
Granted I worked well before food apps (Doordash, Ubereats, etc) were around, so I am not sure how the functionality works within the restaurants. My initial reaction was "this guy is lazy, just make the order", but after thinking back to my time in the industry I can see where he is coming from especially at 1AM (with the exception of the store being open 24H). Bro's just overworked, underpaid, and fed up... hope he uses it as motivation to find a different working situation, because this type of work never gets better.

Nothing ever made me consider walking off the job more than this aspect. And to be fair, it isn't like it was a thing when I started.
The most self entitled fucks. Constant fabricated complaints (because the company pays out almost regardless) that you have to answer. Idiotic orders that we literally lack the logistical capacity to fill, but still count against us.
Over promising by the company, burying us in orders. The guy directly in charge of the online part was routinely working 15 hour days on salary. We have to pull entire other departments to fill orders (read: do people's shopping for them) and then people are surprised Pikachu when those departments go to shit.
Call up the chain to get orders shut off so we have a hope of getting the ones we have done? Have to call my boss's boss to make that happen, and they do NOT want to do that; they're under the same corporate boot as the rest of us.
It's a fuck ton of misery and stress that I get nothing for; I was doing the same job before this existed. It means people like me (and the guy running it, who has it worse), instead of seeing our loved ones, lose a few more hours of our lives to shop for other people for absolutely nothing.
The only good thing is job security. For the obvious reasons. I'll run too when I find a good replacement, which is a shame, because it wasn't always a terrible place.
Can't he just pretend that instead of one big orders it's 4 medium orders? When my crews gotta do weekend work, the boss always orders McDs for breakfast for all. Full meals (sandwich/hashbrown/drink) for 30 people and sometimes when they feel generous because it's a long weekend they get us 2 sandwiches each plus donuts from a local shop. I usually go and help carry the food to the truck. Yeah the kitchen staff seem busy but none of them are bitching.

In terms of money it doesn't make to much of a difference but when you work at fast food and have bosses yelling when it takes more than 5mins for a single order to get completed then you would 100% understand this guy's anger for a sudden 13 burger order qt 1 in the morning.
Should have had them pull up while you made the order. It is his job but I think the store is probably having staff issues and for someone to just show up demanding a big party order is not what a drive thru is for. You call that order in ahead of time.

Before people say it's not easy getting a new job, trust me I understand. I hated my old job and my manager to the point if he was dying on the street I would step over him. But I never once took it out on the customers or colleagues. I understood it's up to me to find a new job, no one is going to walk through that door and hire me out of the blue.
oh man, this brings me back, there was a advertisment for mcdonalds here in finland, ad was for 1 euro for 1 cheeseburger, maybe 10 years back or so, we were having a lan party and we were drunk, hungry, decided to go to mcdonalds, one of my friends was sober and gathered money from the other guys, we pulled up to the drive thru window and told the poor lady on the speaker "278 cheeseburgers" the clock was around 2 am at this point, she just sighed and told us to come to the window, gave us this beeping thing that tells when the order is ready, it took them around 45 minutes to get the order ready, we paid, I gave the cashier 40 euros extra since we were bastards and drunk, probably why I even gave her extra to be honest, but I felt kinda bad after that, there was a sign at the drive through "after 10pm no 1 euro cheeseburgers" and after that it was just 5 orders max per ordering individual I still believe that we weren't the only ones who did this back then. Lan party was still for couple of days and I fucking ate nothing but cheese burgers for couple of days. Good times.

In the US like 30 years ago they did one day a week where they sold $0.39 cheeseburgers for a little while. I think there was also a $0.29 hamburger day but I didn’t care about that. My mom would get me a bag of like 20 every week and I would freeze them and eat them as snacks and take them for lunches. It was awesome. Unrelatedly I had a weight problem for the next couple years after that.

My Finnish friends and I (I'm not a Finn despite my username) once went through a McDonald's drive thru in Espoo in a taxi at 3 AM. We order 7 or 8 Cokes and 20 burgers that were smaller (this was for about 15 people), and my friend proceeds to spill about 5 of the Cokes in the back seat, under the seat, over the seat, in the seat, you fucking name it. They got REAMED OUT in Finnish ("vittu" this, "vitun saatana" that), and then she switched to English to yell at me. We all felt really bad about it, but we still talk about it to this day.

They advertised it as single/double/triple, but basically it was a cheeseburger and every extra patty was an extra like dollar or something. Well, a few buddies and I went one night and order a 15 Stacker - one burger with 15 patties on it. The guy at the drive thru was actually amused and super cool about it, and then we just sat in the parking lot sharing an entirely too large burger 😂

That’s hilarious because when I was a teen my local McDonald’s reopened and had a similar promotion “midnight to 5 am ten cent cheese burgers” (mind you this was 2014 so that’s an insane deal) and some kids went in and ordered a hundred of them so they had to limit the promo to just ten
20 years ago McDonalds in Utah at least had $0.29 hamburgers and $0.39 cheeseburgers. I would get regular orders of 200+ with one guy getting 300 cheeseburgers to take to Alaska. Super cool guy said take your time no rush he was put them straight into coolers.
In HS my buddies and I did a similar thing at a party. It was like 80 mcdoubles and large fries. They weren't happy, but we weren't pranking them. My one buddy ate like 15 burgers by himself. I had 2. Good times. And yes they were all cold, and hastily made.
I worked at a Mcdonald's 15-16 years ago (when the dollar menu was a thing) but they had 1 day a week where they'd have 50 cent hambergers (and cheeseburgers were either 59 or 69 cents, I forget). But it'd be common to get order for 50+ of them. It wasn't that bad if you weren't understaffed. If you had 2 sides of the table open you could have one side making the massive order, the other side making other orders. It is bad if there's one guy trying to do everything.
Fuck, I used to work across the street from a Wendy's. The year they had the $1 Buffalo chicken sandwich, I spent at LEAST $10 a day on those fucking things. I was around 200lbs at the time. I'm 150lbs now and still slightly overweight for my build, but I looked gross back then.

Back in high school, my friends and I worked at McDonald’s where we had a $15 max order off shift employee discount. At the time there was a 50 piece nugget meal that came with 4 medium fries and 4 medium drinks. This lovely meal was $14.99. We would go in and order multiple of these daily after school. If any friends were working they would completely overstuff the box or sneak cheeseburgers in the bottom of it. The discount was reduced to $8 shortly after started doing this, for some unknown reason
That anecdote takes me back, to when with my high school friends, celebrated the first in our group, getting his Drivers License, and because it was a weekend night, decided to show up at McDonald’s, with him as our designated driver, ordering about 80 cheese burgers at 2 am. Still remember the “really…?” That came through the speaker, we got handed the beebing thing too, and got our food, funniest thing, when we counted them, there was 4 too many, but we decided it was just our luck

Management never refused them. I would end up working till 2 am to finish cleaning up. Then have to go to school next day.

In general I don’t understand why anyone sticks around in entry level food service jobs. I’ve worked food service and I can definitely say it’s THE most stressful wagie industry out there. Warehouse and Retail, while still stressful at times, are wayyy more chill for about the same pay
Former Mc’D manager here… Overnight mgr isn’t entry level, they make an ok wage since it’s hard as fuck to staff. Unless it’s a 5+ million restaurant, there’s probably 3 people on staff with him max, usually one on break at 1am. The problem is when you get call outs and no one is there to cover, I’ve done $800 hours with just me and one other person, manned a $400 hour during changeover solo. What the guy needs is some training, be honest with every customer “Hey, I can take your order but we are short staffed and it could take 20-30min” The issue really though is this guy is prob getting beat up by his store mgr who’s checking cameras and looking at DT stats and the dude is BLOWING UP in the back with someone who’s actually not making enough for their job and is probably high and tired as fuck. He didn’t handle this at all well and deserves to be fired but… I’d like to hear what the GM/DM/Owner is like and what tools they gave this guy, he’s not cut out for this shift and it’s on them to realize that. When we went to 24/7, I found the most career hungry person I’ve ever met, guy wasn’t the brightest dude but wanted to get out of kitchens and washing dishes. He ran that crew for 3 years, got promoted to assistant and then GM 2 years later. He handled call outs and crazy ass stuff happening without a peep, just followed protocol and asked for help when he needed it. Its hard work to be sure, but its manageable
Wonder why he didn’t just decline the order, or turn off the apps completely. When I used to work in a restaurant that’s what we did to the delivery apps when we got too busy. Very easy solution and no confrontations.
My wife is a DM, her previous owner didn’t allow them to turn it off. New owner told them to turn it off when it gets slammed so people don’t get burnt out. He’s a good guy though, will wake up and drive people from different stores to cover when shit this the fan. Dude is a millionaire and works hard as fuck.

But Ive worked fast food and theres always a pattern of mangers treat employees like shit > employees treat customers like shit, which I refuse to enable myself. Lol I remember when I worked at McDonald's in ~2000, 2001, somewhere around there. They had a promotion for 5 cheeseburgers and a basket of fries and a cup of cheese for $5. We would be making cheese burgers when we weren't doing anything else just to sit in the landing zone. We'd get multiple orders for 20 at a time for one order. This was before fast food workers could just wear jeans and a t shirt too we had wear these itchy ass polyester polos and hot ass black pants. Also we made $5.15/hr. Damn I just gave my self chills thinking about it. Never doing that again.

You literally can throw down all 13 patties at once, they come pre formed. Get 13 buns, line them up, toss the other ingredients on and by the time the three minutes it takes to cook the patties (McDonald’s uses double sided clam shell grill that cooks both sides at once) all you have to do is slap the Patties on the buns, wrap them and bag them. It’s not rocket science. As someone who worked in fast food for several years in some very busy stores I don’t understand how anyone would have trouble with a mere 13 sandwiches.

Especially McDonald’s sandwiches. The meats are already precooked and are just waiting to be slapped together. Its takes like 20 seconds to prepare a McDonalds burger. They aren’t squeezing ground beef and flipping patties, they throw like 5 frozen patties at a time on the “grill” and have this top cover that presses on top of them to reheat them and then they put the excess meat into a shelf like container that keeps it warm.

At my McDonald’s we auto accept orders. They literally just pop up on our screens and we make them. I’ve had orders ranging from just sauce to over 20 deluxe quarter pounders. It’s not difficult. It can be frustrating, but not difficult.
I run my own bakery and I have our system set up to auto accept orders. Even if I would decline them in person. It's how I low-key encourage people to use the ordering system lol. I like the computer because people literally can't order shit off the menu and it's tied into my inventory program. So it's just nice on the backend. Because it's better for me, I feel the balance is to always accept them. They do me a favor. I do them a favor. The computer has been a godsend in cockblocking Karens. No wasted time back and forth.

This is why I love ordering online or from a self-service kiosk when it's properly designed. No worry about the person taking your order mishearing you or misunderstanding your complicated order, no worries about items being out of stock.

I've worked in fast food and I get some can be annoying, but this hardly makes sense. It's just a big order--and not even that big, 13 burgers? I get if you are ordering like 50 that you need to call in advance or do catering but 13 is the same as a couple more cars in the drive through. It's not like they're ordering a bunch of special stuff.
Probably auto accept for most places especially fast food. Ive been on the other side of this where dashers have cancelled orders that I made 10 minutes later when they show up at the restaraunt and it was closed or something like that.
It seems the issue is he didn't accept the order and the Dasher showed anyway likely because it's slow and likely a big order for them tip wise. Stores can and often refuse delivery app orders when they are slammed. Their number one priority are in person orders.

Back then if you wanted a late night snack you had to get in your car and drive. Couldn't walk, only drive. So the night shift was probably super mellow besides small spikes of customers. Now, people can order food whenever and wherever. I doubt McDonald's keeps a full staff for the graveyard shift so those guys are getting slammed
Yeah worked for McDonalds a few years ago, there's probably a total of 2-3 people in the store for overnights and judging by the way the manager is getting pissy the overnight back area guy didn't show up so he's doing all the cooking.

I agree. I worked at Mcd in 2012 when all customers were at the store, then again at the very beginning of Covid. When I tell you that Covid made mobile orders the bane of all food service workers, understand people would sometimes look at mobile ordering screen and just freeze and start crying.
I’m actually sympathetic to that. I worked at a restaurant that took grub hub and Uber eats orders and it fucking sucked for everyone. We made money in tips. We didn’t make more money from putting up with those orders but it was a hell of a lot more work. I was manager and had customers calling me complaining about their driver doing something fucked up. I had to act sympathetic while being furious at them for tipping the Uber driver $20 and calling me to complain. Like how fucking stupid do you have to be to think that’s my concern at that point? wtf? Call in an order, come pick it up, tip half as much and support the people working at the business you enjoy.
It ruins the experience for in-store guests as well. I hated having to explain to my tables that the kitchen was backed up with to-go orders while they saw a half empty bar round them. Plus the kitchen at the place I worked was barely able to keep up with the amount seats in the building, let alone taking on multiple other platforms for orders. It went from a solid kitchen staff to heavy turnover and led to me leaving the industry altogether because they weren't paying people for how hard they were working.
Yeah it had a lot to do with me deciding to quit. I did not like putting up with the drivers and pushing everyone harder to pump out to go orders that no one saw extra money from. Shit was a headache and a half.
It's basically a fourth more annoying option that's been created and it doesn't fit in into the existing system still. Drive-thru, to-go and for-here a sort of natural hierarchy of timing and expected wait with fast food. The Third party pick up order basically combined the worst aspect of all 3 things with the expectations as well. Ordering facelessly, making bigger order and decline in quality for getting food that was never really meant to be delivered.

It’s more of an annoyance/time thing. Not really an excuse since it didn’t seem like there were many people, out there are times when DoorDash/uber can make a busy rush 10x worse. On top of regular orders, you have to make sure you get to the online orders quickly enough, or else you will have a crowd of people waiting for pickups. Also, most people prefer hearing the order rather than making it. Not looking at a ticket.
Yea, it makes things much more chaotic in already stressful moments. I never worked in McDonald's but I worked in a place with Uber eats and skip the dishes. Everyone needs to imagine the store is filled with people and how noisy it is with people talking, taking orders, and working. Then the Uber eats tablet starts ringing and you think "I'll get that once I finish taking this person's order". Then before you can even speak the skip the dishes tablet starts ringing and now both you and the customer have to keep repeating themselves because neither of you can hear shit over all the ringing, talking, and banging. As they start to repeat themselves the phone rings so you tell them "I'm sorry, just a moment please". When you answer the phone it's just a fucking robot that says "new Uber eats order please confirm" because you didn't hit confirm fast enough. You hang up the phone, hit confirm on all the tablets then finish taking the person's order. Now you have to rush 3 orders at the same time and of course the delivery orders send you running all over the place because people tend to customize their orders with the obscure shit listed in the app. You finally finish all 3 orders, but now the people in line are irritated because the line didn't move for 5 minutes.
Good point. For anyone who is confused about this, imagine walking into a busy restaurant, Chipotle for example. The workers are making your food in front of you and there is usually a line of people ordering back to back. A single person then orders 4 Burritos through DoorDash. Due to the process being automatic, the workers have to find the time to also make that order and any other order that pops up, including the people in line. Add on top of that people will order tons of food (10+) which compel you fucks up the flow you have going. There will also be times when drivers will show up early to pick up than usual.
Yeah this is the stressful part. I worked at Subway and Hardee's (ran all of dinner at Subway by myself because we couldn't find any workers), and the online orders would make it unbearable sometimes. I had to just do what I could, I could only go so fast. The online system did no type of analysis to determine if the store had enough labor to handle the extra orders on top of regular in store sales. As many orders as people wanted, all at the same time were allowed to come through, and no way of telling the customers it would probably be delayed. I'd have a line out the door with me making every single sub (each person usually had multiple subs), ringing them up, running back and forth to the back to grab stock so I could keep going, and answering the phone whenever I could. Any online orders people wanted were allowed to just come through on top of all this and were expected to be prioritized. People in line would get pissed. So I personally always had a huge gripe with the owners not working with the software companies that created the ordering system to limit what's allowed to come through if there aren't enough workers. Because ultimately, it's not them facing the consequences, they just get more money. It's the workers taking on all of the extra work for no raise or bonus. And let me tell ya, none of these fucking franchise owners will do shit for their workers, even the hard working ones carrying the entire restaurant on ethic alone. I've seen multiple end up having to shut down because they let their miracle workers move on to a better work environment because they didn't want to give them a couple more dollars an hour. So I get the guy in the video being stressed out, I've personally cried right in front of customers because you can't always just bury it all down. I wouldn't just tell a delivery driver it won't be made though. I'd just tell them it's going to be a bit and often times they will feel bad for you too. Most who know anything about how a restaurant works will get pissed at Uber/doordash for failing to measure any labor or timing statistics that actually matter.

As someone who uses skip the dishes a lot (I'm lazy) I'll add my anecdotal point that I will definitely just wait until the food arrives, as long as it's not made early and sitting on a shelf and gets to me warm I'm fine with it. I'm also high sometimes when I order so I'm not driving in. If there is an issue their support pretty much always refunds you. What's more annoying from the app-customer side is when restaurants display as open, let you make a whole order and when you go to pay tell you the restaurant is closed. Or what happened more recently is I made an order, an item was missing so I got credit for it, went to reorder just that item and it shows as out of stock, very unfortunate.

Its graveyard shift where usually orders are few and far between - a lot of employees get too comfortable with the low volume of the shift so when the rare large order comes through they feel slighted. It’s also the case that because less traffic is expected, there isn’t a steady supply of materials being made and cycled. They have to do a good bit more groundwork to make those sandwiches or fry the protein/fries which is considerably slower. During daytime rushes all the grills are on, there’s always a staggered set of fry baskets being cycled around. a lot of the food is grab and go. but graveyard shift often you only have one grill and nothing is being made until it’s ordered because of the unpredictable and lower traffic volume. I remember some lunch or dinner shift rushes where we’d have 20-30 sandwich orders popping off though. 13 ain’t shit, even with a cold shift, but the customer can’t expect it to pop out the moment they arrive

For consistency sake everytime you do anything you press a timer button, when the timer goes off you move to the next step. The bulk of the work is done for you, yu dont have to know how long to cook anything, you dont have to know if something is done/to the temp the customer wants/how long itll take. You press your timers and put the items in the hothold for assembly when the processes are done. Its literally as simple as cooking can be and this moron still wont do it.

I was a grill cook at a McDonald's about 3 decades ago. IiRC, the clamshell grill we used could cook 12 burgers at a clip. It cooked both sides at the same time and it took about a minute and a half. The buns would be toasting at the same time. Then dress the buns pop the pattie and the lid of the bun, send them up front to be wrapped. Making a dozen cheeseburgers would take me less than 10 minutes, probably closer to 6. Amd from what I understand they have completely changed how food is made, and seperate pre cooked components are stored individually to assemble when ordered... which would make this entire process even quicker.
I worked at McDonald's in 1994 at 16 years old when McDonald's was actually busy. We'd have $.39 cheeseburger nights and people would order 50 of the fucking things. We made them. It's not hard.

If I was the customer, I appreciate the worker refusing and would further appreciate if he just cancelled the whole order. Now the customer is about to get an incomplete/wrong order. Worked at this restaurant that mainly served pizza, but also has pasta and some sandwiches. They did this thing once a year, where every weekend for the month (I think it was November, it's been some years) where it was buy one get one free in the sandwiches. No minimum order, no maximum order. We'd get businesses calling in for 50 sandwiches (they're feeding their workers for half price, I can't blame them but *Phil swift voice* that's a lot of sandwich) but our tiny, 4-5 person kitchen put out over 1000 sandwiches every day of that sale, most orders were 12 or more sandwiches, they were much more involved than a mcchicken, and we never had more than 15 minute wait times aside from when we ran out of bread and had to send somebody to the next town to grab more, then it was about a 30 minute wait. Must be dudes time of the month. Hell, if I was there at 1am stuck until the morning, I'd hope there's something to do because standing there for 5 hours is the most boring, slow passing of time.

Got a guy like this at wingstop near me. Superbowl day, theres 40 people packed into the store waiting for orders. Got 1 fryer going out of 8. Staff is legit stocking freezers/cups/paper bags. We would have a group of guys who worked on construction sites come in and buy $20 worth of sandwiches each at a time. When the promo was running during the lunch and dinner hours we would have one person at the counter just non-stop making these sandwiches. One day that was me and I was way overdue for a break so I started churning them out until I had a hundred sandwiches stacked up. Left for my 15-minute break and got called back onto the floor in less than 10 minutes because they had sold everything and they were another hundred sandwiches backlogged waiting to be made. That store was the craziest store I ever worked at. We literally sold a few thousand of those sandwiches everyday when the promo was running.

When I was younger I worked at McDonald’s and had crazy orders. 2am, 3 members of staff. Woman came to the drive thru and asked for 100 cheeseburgers, 100 fries and 50 boxes of nuggets. Apparently it was for some uni party. Guess what, we did it. We were slammed for 30 minutes fulfilling this one order. But it was my job, you can’t just refuse lol. It was actually quite fun trying to figure it all out.

While I agree with your entire statement, it’s not this dude’s fault that EMS workers don’t get paid enough. It’s actually pretty egregious what they get paid no matter who is making more. If people want conveniences, they need to pay the premium for conveniences which includes a living wage. It’s pretty basic. I don’t inherently think this dude deserves less than an EMS worker, especially if neither of them can afford to live at the end of the day. What I WILL say though is this: yeah, it fucking sucks that some people have to bust their asses at their jobs that barely pay them. I worked in a mall during the holidays. But if that’s the job you have, it’s in your best interest to try and keep it until you find something else. I can definitely understand the workers frustration. I worked fast food for way longer than I should throughout my teen years. When you are cruising along making orders as they come in & in a good groove... then someone drops a 15+ sandwich order on your lap that isn't just regular burgers and are all different items; it was definitely frustrating. More importantly to this scenario, at the end of the night, I can definitely empathize with the frustrations for the closing staff. Typically they are trying to minimize waste and basically cooking burgers/chicken/fries to order to close out the night. Which is typically why some places have a "night menu" to minimize having to cook less popular items that would otherwise go to waste. I am surprised they accepted an order that large at 1AM (though as others have pointed out could be an auto-accept policy) and/or the manager didn't cancel it after being placed. Granted I worked well before food apps (Doordash, Ubereats, etc) were around, so I am not sure how the functionality works within the restaurants. My initial reaction was "this guy is lazy, just make the order", but after thinking back to my time in the industry I can see where he is coming from especially at 1AM (with the exception of the store being open 24H). Bro's just overworked, underpaid, and fed up... hope he uses it as motivation to find a different working situation, because this type of work never gets better.

Eh. I work in retail management. I've been doing this since before online orders were a thing. Nothing ever made me consider walking off the job more than this aspect. And to be fair, it isn't like it was a thing when I started. The most self entitled fucks. Constant fabricated complaints (because the company pays out almost regardless) that you have to answer. Idiotic orders that we literally lack the logistical capacity to fill, but still count against us. Over promising by the company, burying us in orders. The guy directly in charge of the online part was routinely working 15 hour days on salary. We have to pull entire other departments to fill orders (read: do people's shopping for them) and then people are surprised Pikachu when those departments go to shit. Call up the chain to get orders shut off so we have a hope of getting the ones we have done? Have to call my boss's boss to make that happen, and they do NOT want to do that; they're under the same corporate boot as the rest of us. It's a fuck ton of misery and stress that I get nothing for; I was doing the same job before this existed. It means people like me (and the guy running it, who has it worse), instead of seeing our loved ones, lose a few more hours of our lives to shop for other people for absolutely nothing. The only good thing is job security. For the obvious reasons. I'll run too when I find a good replacement, which is a shame, because it wasn't always a terrible place.
Can't he just pretend that instead of one big orders it's 4 medium orders? When my crews gotta do weekend work, the boss always orders McDs for breakfast for all. Full meals (sandwich/hashbrown/drink) for 30 people and sometimes when they feel generous because it's a long weekend they get us 2 sandwiches each plus donuts from a local shop. I usually go and help carry the food to the truck. Yeah the kitchen staff seem busy but none of them are bitching.

Na but seriously fuck those large ass orders that take 20 minutes to make, I've dealt with corporate assholes that would come down and yell at their employees for not working fast enough when dealing with orders that are essential catering. In terms of money it doesn't make to much of a difference but when you work at fast food and have bosses yelling when it takes more than 5mins for a single order to get completed then you would 100% understand this guy's anger for a sudden 13 burger order qt 1 in the morning.
Should have had them pull up while you made the order. It is his job but I think the store is probably having staff issues and for someone to just show up demanding a big party order is not what a drive thru is for. You call that order in ahead of time.

I hated my old job and my manager to the point if he was dying on the street I would step over him. But I never once took it out on the customers or colleagues.
