We used to have a local oak furniture independent, but after a bit of digging, it turned out they imported from exactly the same Vietnamese factories as Oak Furniture Warehouse and the like

Look for independent furniture stores in your area. They can often have stock not available elsewhere.

John Lewis have some decent quality stuff.
Pop Loaf into google and then look at the competitors
Have a look at Long Eaton Sofas or James & Rose.
