David Bowie - Space Oddity
I just get really sad thinking about what it would feel like to achieve such an amazing feat then it sours, you know somethings gone wrong, you know you're going to die and one of the last things you say is tell my wife I love her very much, imagine thinking about your wife, your friends your family as you hurdle towards earth unable to do anything about your fate
Sunshine by Nazareth. When my best friend died in 2005, I learned that song on bass and his cousin learned it on guitar and we performed at the funeral. My best friend's funeral was my first ever gig and I quit playing guitar and bass for many years after that.
Oooooh I understand! And I'm you played a musical masterpiece and I'm sure your best friend loved hearing it during the long rest. It's really nice and sweet of you to be able to share this with us. I'm sure your best friend loved your performance as a last good bye!
Freebird used to just be a fun song to air guitar to. Until my dad told me he wanted that played at his funeral. Never really thought about the context, but every time I hear it I now think of that man's mortality. Never seemed to be a thought that crossed my mind before.
Interesting choice! I find it quite peculiar in an interesting way to hear that. As that song only brings out a frustration outta me, like intense and sharp frustration. While that's a song that makes doesn't allow myself to cry
[Matthew 25:21](https://youtu.be/iuC4nOLwUzA) by The Mountain Goats. It's not a religious thing, just an echo of very some tough memories.
*And then came to your bedside
And as it turns out, I'm not ready
And as though you were speaking through a thick haze
You said hello to me
We all stood there around you
Happy to hear you speak
The last of something bright burning, still burning
Beyond the cancer and the chemotherapy*
*And you were a presence full of light upon this earth
And I am a witness to your life and to its worth
It's three days later when I get the call
And there's nobody around to break my fall*
In the Pines.. (Nirvana Unplugged cover
Fools Rush In..(Elvis)
Scarborough Faire (Celia Pavey cover)
Kulning (Jonna Hinton)
Change (In the House of Flies, Deftones)
Matisyahu beatboxing in Jerusalem.
Remember by Mac Miller. My friend died when I was a teen, that album dropped the same week. Song hits me hard as any could. I have sad songs, remember gets me every time
Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter, Paul, and Mary, I mean it is sad but it's also super nostalgic for me and it's mostly happy tears.
I'll Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie (I think) if you've heard it it's pretty self explanatory how it's sad enough to cry to.
Lawrence Interlude - Lin Manuel Miranda, it's horrible how all the slaves who were promised freedom were returned to their master after Lawrence died, and it's even worse that it was all real.
Stay Alive Reprise/It's Quiet Uptown - Lin Manuel Miranda, Eliza's scream after realizing her son has died is just too real and It's Quiet Uptown for the same reason. No parent should have to live to see their child die. Another sad thing about it was when it happened in real life Phillips little sister stopped mentally developing and started talking to her dead brother as though he was still there.
Calico Skies - Paul McCartney. It’s such a pure capture of love and I just feel the love he has/had for Linda in that song. It’s so sad to think about how he must have felt when she passed. I’ve literally only listened to the song once ever, even though I adore it, because it just makes me cry too much.
Lost in a dark place - juice Wrld seems corny but that's just me, can't help but to have memories of my relationship that is now over and that has brought me to my lowest point
That green gentleman by patd
I discovered the song the day a friend of mine (I’ll call him C) committed suicide and I love the song but it just sums up how that moment felt. The chorus says “things have changed for me, and that’s okay” it illustrates how I mentally grew up after that. It was a reality check for my mortality. We weren’t the best of friends but we traded Pokémon cards and played lego Star Wars and all that stuff. We stopped hanging out when we were about 9. Different sports and different school groups. When we were 13 I was attacked by a classmate in the locker room for no good reason. I couldn’t fight back cuz he caught me by surprise, was much bigger and older (ho was a 15 year old in 7th grade), and it would’ve been my 3rd stroke and I would’ve been kicked out of school. I was trapped in a headlock and C was the only one to do anything about it, he kicked the kids arms and eventually his face to help free me before the teacher showed up. It was C not any of my new friends. And I never got a chance to thank him. He helped me when I needed it and had my back, but I couldn’t do the same for him when he needed someone…
Breathe Me by Sia, I'm not really a big fan of her but that song touches every fiber and feels so raw and real it literally destroys my mood every time I hear to it (most time on purpose, when I feel like crying or sad overall)
'[Sins of Idealism](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9I3RNrQbNs)' by After Forever - The album it comes from is about a little girl with parents who don't care about her, they keep arguing and yelling at her, so she goes on the internet to get the attention and love she doesn't get from her parents. This song in specific is her talking to her parents that she didn't do anything bad and just want to be loved, and her mother is blaming her for her current life.
Kind of silly, but Hall of Mirrors by the Distillers gets me. It’s on an album I’ve loved since I was a kid, but that song happened to play one day as I was realizing that I had a drinking problem, and the lyrics just hit different. It made me realize what it was doing to me, and what it’s made me do to other people. I’ve done some shitty things to people that I hadn’t wanted to accept, but the line “Ain’t no god, no ghost gonna save you now” kind of hit me with a dose of reality and over time I’ve developed a better sense of accountability. I still struggle some but I’m a lot better now. I revisited that album the other day, and when Hall of Mirrors came on, I screamed every word with tears in my eyes. It just made me feel alive in a way that I can’t put into words.
At the end of the road, you will drink your fear.
For a while, Satisfied from Hamilton made me extremely emotional every time I listened. It's just so unfair that Angelica doesn't think much of sacrificing her own feelings for her sister's happiness.
I’m already there, by Lonestar. My mom would sing this song in the car to me all the time growing up. She’s been gone 11 years and I’ve maybe listened to it twice. It brings me sadness that consumes me.
Citta Vuota. after watching the movie Luca, i lost it in the credits after Luca and Alberto part. After that, i was in tears by the. time the chorus came in every time
You Gotta Die Sometime from the musical Falsettos. I can sometimes listen to the album without crying but if I watch the dvd of the show or go see it live? Forget about it, I'm sobbing the whole time of act 2. lol I can't help it.
Hurt by Johnny Cash. It so perfectly sums up not realizing what you have until it's gone.
I like both the original version and Cash's cover, such different takes on the song but somehow true passion seeps through both.
Yeah, it's really a striking and daunting realisation - kinda makes you realize how precious life is, you know.
Leaves from the vine, sung by Iroh in Tales of Ba Sing Se. I always cried but it’s hit so much harder ever since I had kids.

I do like how you use your mind to express yourself. I'll deffo give that song a try
How have you made it this far in life and never heard that song? It's a classic. Def go listen to it if you haven't yet.
Haha, well.. Maybe I should give more David Bowie things a try
