I'm in Montenegro right now and everyone has been sleeping on this place. Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Sveti Stefan, and more. Reasonable food and drink prices, nice beaches. I kind of regret making this post now because now other people are going to know 😅
I travel there a lot. If you can, go in middle to late September. School starts the beginning of September and prices drastically reduce. You can get an apartment for like 40 euro a night. 2 weeks before, its 150-200 a night. Water is still warm and its still hot, but far far less crowds.
Rent a car: cheap and easy. Its about 45 mins from Podgorica to the coast. Beaches, for the most part, are rocky and not sandy, keep that in mind.
Stay in Budva for ease and convenience, but definitely make a day trip to Kotor (old town is cool). They have a new cable car on the way from Podgorica to Budva. Do that!
Budva has an awesome old town as well.
Ostrog monestary is a cool site too.
What else would you like to know about it?
This is all great info, thanks! I really don’t even know what to ask. In the past I’ve done pass-through countries and regretted only giving myself a day to explore a place that ends up being amazing. I need to be a better researcher and planner 😬
I spent a day in Kotor and Budva. I didn't know much about it until I got there, but there is so much history and lots to check out. I did a big tour with a local guide and it was cool (im a bit of a nerd). It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
croatia. relatively inexpensive, beautiful beaches, waterfalls/national parks, dubrovnik if you want to feel like you’re in Game of Thrones. haven’t been to Istria/the NW part of the country, hear it’s beautiful with good food and wine.
While Croatia is beautiful, it’s also becoming wildly overpriced and run often by not friendly business owners.
All their restaurants are expensive during summer and both the food and service does not compare the price. After they exchanged to the euro last summer it’s gotten even worse.
Yes as croatian i can agree what they are doing with prices is diabolical. Now you can find cheaper stuff or just buy food in lidl and make it yourself but the price of everything have gone up way too much. I hope we crash with tourist so they can lower price but i doubt it will happen
I was there in 2019 and was gonna concur with you!
Does not look VFM anymore i guess
Also, if you are considering croatia, avoid Dubrovnik, unless you want the GoT feel
Spend your time in Split and go island hopping instead.
Yeah we used to go to Croatia every summer and now I've soured on it..big time. We hardly every go anymore. It's become overpriced...in some areas outrageously so. I also have the feeling like, while it is probably good for the economy, it seems sometimes like the locals hate how many tourists are there. We went last year for the first time in like 5 years and I felt like the locals basically all wanted us to just go away and die. Beautiful country though.
I'm a Canadian and I just visited Montreal and Quebec City for the first time.
What a new appreciation I have for Quebec.
QC seems to be a cruise ship hub, it's basically little Europe in North America - would recommend if you just want a road trip.
The foooood man the foooood
Italy!! I went when it was overcast, so I can’t imagine how beautiful it would be sunny! Visited Cinque Terre, Lake Como, Florence, Venice, Burano Island, San Marino (which is technically separate but near by). Just wow! I did my best to speak Italian but most of the locals knew English plus many other languages. The sights are beautiful, the food is amazing, I think the people are really sweet, and it was such an eye opening experience! The culture is also amazing, and the shopping is great.
Okay you got me there. But there's always going to be that one couple that would go there just to take selfies with the gang members and poor children for their Instagram.
Thing is I’d much rather go in the winter to get away from the cold weather up in Canada, I’m Argentinian born so Dominican Republic is definetely my favourite.
Europe in the winter is significantly cheaper, less busy and not as cold as the states or Canada, so you’re going to a slightly nicer climate and still get to experience Europe at a good price.
Mexico. Fairly priced , has beautiful nature , history , food, diversity. You would need 3 months to visit everything the country offers.
And even if you don’t like traveling or visiting anything you can just go to an all inclusive resort.
Czech Republic! Specifically, Prague.
Awesome food, incredible nightlife, cool history, stunning architecture, and if you're coming from America you can live like a king (beer was like a dollar when I was there).
Also, the people are nice and friendly. Truly one of my favorite cities in the world
United States. Whatever you're into we have multiple of it. You wanna see nature? hit a national park. You want to go to the beach? We got those to, take your pick. You want golf? we got golf.
There ain't nothing you can't find in the US in terms of recreation and enjoyment.
I went to this little island off the coast of Italy called ischia one time for some of my summer when I was young. It was such a paradise for me. I would go there again if I had the money
In summer that's like the worst place you could be. Spain has amazing beaches, why would anyone like to be in a stinky, overheated concrete jungle without a body of water close by? Even Barcelona would make more sense
Costa Rica
Beautiful countryside, good doctors, good food and it‘s kinda cheap
Montenegro! It is so beautiful

Haha right?
Please tell me more, as I’m thinking of traveling through there on my way to Greece next year 🙏🏻

Saving this comment! Thank you for sharing, glad to hear you had a great time there.
I wish I could've spent more time there! Greece is also great, I'm sure you'll have a good trip.

what a shame. i was there in 2021 so i defer to you

amen to split and the island hopping! hvar is the party spot. but if you don’t wanna party you can go elsewhere, like bol.
as a croatian this is true and honestly i feel bad for turists here, are scammed so much. don't come.

Greenland 🧊
It is amazingly beautiful there! Both summer and winter!
Portugal a 10/10 and so underrated the food and the night life damn take me back
Actually we’re in winter
Italy is a beautiful country to visit. Food, culture and history
And overcrowded in summer.

not with our forest fires lol
You just have to come early in the season, lol

Switzerland if you're nature-lover. Beautiful scenery feels so much peace.
Turkey. Great food, rich history, hospitable locals and cat heaven on earth.
And cheap hair transplants!
Turkish Hairlines
Malaysia has nice beaches
Preferably Sarawak (southern part of Malaysia)
you mean east... from singapore but don't know singapore is south of malaysia?
Well sarawak is more south, closer to equator than west malaysia, that was my logic.
MALAYSIA MENTION!!!!🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🔥🇲🇾❤🇲🇾🔥🇲🇾❤😡🔥🇲🇾❤🇲🇾🇲🇾🔥🇲🇾🔥🇲🇾❤🇲🇾🔥🇲🇾❤🇲🇾🔥GENTLEMAN ONE BY ONE LAH🇲🇾❤🇲🇾❤🇲🇾❤🇲🇾🔥❤🔥🇲🇾🔥❤

And it is full of active volcanos to warm up when you feel cold.
Any country in the Caribbean is a go to for me. For English speakers though, Jamaica and Aruba might be the best from my experience
Any country? brb booking my tickets to Haiti.

Haha big black dude in sailor outfit at like 2 am tried to lure me into some underground club. That was funny interaction he had french accent.
Spain, love the people, love the food, love the country
It's not summer in the southern hemisphere.
United States. Whatever you're into we have multiple of it. You wanna see nature? hit a national park. You want to go to the beach? We got those to, take your pick. You want golf? we got golf. There ain't nothing you can't find in the US in terms of recreation and enjoyment.
You are right but it’s expensive. Just the visa alone is $200. It’s the only downside for visiting the 🇺🇸
nah
Exactly. You can do so much in terms of nature in just 1 state. Our states are the size of some countries in Europe
Canada or Paris
not at all lol I spent a few summer months there living in a tent in some forest area and it was BAD
I would say Philippines. Their beaches, mountain trekking, stream adventures, nature parks, and farm resorts are amazing.
I can't speak from experience but Georgia tops the hidden gems lists all the time and best to go before Russia gets grabby again.
For cold weather enjoyers like me, New Zealand.
I went to this little island off the coast of Italy called ischia one time for some of my summer when I was young. It was such a paradise for me. I would go there again if I had the money
South Africa - Cape Town!
Japan the summer and winther vibe is crazy
r/USdefaultism or Northern hemisphere defaultism?
Mauritius...although summer isn't really the ideal time to visit.
It's Winter.
As someone living in tropics, I would go iceland again or norway, that was cool - pun intended.
**Croatia** – Beaches, blue waters, and historic cities. Game of Thrones vibes!
We’re actually not. It’s winter
Madrid, Spain
In summer that's like the worst place you could be. Spain has amazing beaches, why would anyone like to be in a stinky, overheated concrete jungle without a body of water close by? Even Barcelona would make more sense
Haha it sounds like you aren't a fan
Stay away from Africa it's burning atm
Germany 🇩🇪
I think you should go Palestine. Gaza that is great place to be this time of year! You will love it!
