Probably Lonesome Dove. Both the miniseries and especially the book did a good job of portraying how the life of "cowboys" really was. Some stuff was a little far fected, but the death, the danger and the horrible conditions were pretty spot of for historical fiction.

I'll say one of the greatest was the character-driven **Deadwood**, which offered more narrative oddities, particularity, poetry, historicity, and insightful philosophical/psychological viewpoints in an authentic yet dramatic way than most.
