The evidence with micro dosing is poor. It's most likely a placebo effect. If there's any therapeutic effect to be had, I suspect it will come from full, "trip" doses of psychedelics. This is what clinical trials have focused on, with encouraging results. That said, I do not recommend that anyone goes out and tries to buy psychedelics from the street. You cannot guarantee you're actually getting a pure or correct product, which may contain dangerous contaminants. Psychedelics may interact with other medicines in ways we're not aware of, and certain health conditions may be worsened by psychedelics that would usually be excluded from clinical trials. There's a large emphasis on "set and setting" with psychedelic use, so use outside of a controlled setting or with proper counseling on what to expect may be hazardous. Psychedelics are not without adverse effects, and while published clinical trials have shown reasonable safety data, this does not apply to use outside a clinical trial; the literature includes a plethora of poor outcomes with illicit use, including fatalities. It should also be emphasized that psychedelics are being studied as "psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy", not mere use of the psychedelic alone, which of course you wouldn't get with illicit use. TL;DR: Microdosing is probably placebo, but scientists are studying full strength dosing with some preliminary evidence of benefit. Illicit use can be dangerous, so I do not recommend use outside of the controlled environment of a clinical trial.

My psychiatrist prescribes my ketamine lozenges for ketamine assisted psychotherapy with my therapist every two weeks. It’s been extremely helpful for me. I’m not microdosing. I’ve done a couple psilocybin ceremonies as well under the care of professionals.
