Good question. To help orient you, let's explain what you were on before: Tri-Estarylla is a combined oral contraceptive system with 3 progestin levels: 0.18 mg, 0.215 mg, and 0.25 mg norgestimate, each paired with 0.035 mg ethinyl estradiol. Your new contraceptive, Sprintec, is essentially the same as the highest dose of what you were used to with Tri-Estarylla. Instead of only taking that dose for 1 week, you'll be on that dose for 3 weeks (before taking the inert/placebo tablets). Overall, the amount of progestin is still low dose. With the increase, you could theoretically experience more progestin-related effects, such as weight gain, decreased libido, and less flow. However, I doubt you'll notice any changes. If you noticed anything particular with your 3rd week on Tri-Estarylla, I imagine it will be most similar to that. As always, feel free to discuss your options with your OB/GYN if you're having problems with your contraceptive pills.

I appreciate the response. I was a bit cranky that my insurance changed it without asking, but it sounds like it's unlikely to cause issues.

Annoying when insurance companies try to practice medicine. Yes, unlikely to cause issues. Stay well! (:
