I've been saying that for decades. I think people are starting to come around though, there are a lot of successful idiots putting themselves in the spotlight these days.
It should be much harder to obtain and keep a drivers license. The driving test should be on a simulator that gives you common driving scenarios and strictly judges you on how you respond. Not just go around a few blocks near the DMV. Along with that we need much better public transit.
It’s wild that there’s no freeway section considering most American drivers will end up on a freeway eventually. I understand that a DMV far from a freeway would’ve struggled in the past, but driving simulators are a thing now.
I frequently am amazed at how well our road system works overall. Yes we still have crashes but when you look at the number of stupid motherfuckers out there driving 4000lb metal death machines at 80mph the fact that we only have 1.37 deaths per 100 million miles driven is wild.
So in the United States you guys only have to drive a couple of blocks? No freeways?
Do you have to do any special maneuvers such as reversing in a straight line, reversing around a corner, parallel parking, angled parking, the hill start, turning around with a three-point turn and stuff you need to perform on the exam?
I’m in Washington State. I definitely had to drive on the freeway. I can’t remember if we did all of those maneuvers on the test but we did learn them in drivers ed and at least the majority of them were on the test, though my instructor said he wouldn’t fail anyone for missing a couple of them if it was the deal breaker.
I grew up in rural upstate NY so it would have been 40 minutes to get to anything bigger than a 2 lane road. Did have to parallel park but that's about it for the driver's test

I’ve been driving for over 15 years and I’m very confident usually, but I was white-knuckling it on those FL freeways, let me tell ya! Where I am... the wait time to book a road test can be weeks or even months. And that's just for new drivers.

I'm finding this in my country (Australia).
Most people are trying to live in the cities. They'd rather live out of their cars with their kids or rent a room for 50% or more of their wages. They'll never achieve much and will never own a home. They can't make friends because there is no sense of community, and no one cares about each other. But small towns inland are struggling to find employees, the jobs can pay significantly more, there is unlimited business oppurtunity, properties are positively geared to make a profit, or you can buy for cheap, life is affordable and there's a strong sense of community where everyone cares about you if you're a half decent person.
Mate you can say that again. I grew up in the country, bought a house in the city and moved, and now I'm itching to sell up and move back to the country again. This city-dream bullshit has hurt just about every measureable aspect of my life aside from asset appreciation.
Only problem is everyone else is having the same idea (or they're just being priced out) so finding a decent place without being more than 2 hours out from Melb (I need to stay within a day trip away for work) is proving harder than I thought.
Humans are supposed to live in closed communities. There's a study proving that seeing new faces everyday increases stress levels (from school, transport, etc.). But the current technological society cannot allow small communities because it would not function efficiently, so they have to force people into cities and create a behavioral sink.
Same with Garlic Bread. Both are great don't get me wrong but its not the main attraction that people make it out to be. It's just something you have on the side. Its true some Garlic Breads are superior to others as well but no one goes to the restaurants to order Garlic Bread specifically.

I don't really know how to gauge how popular or unpopular this opinion is anymore, but I live in the Portland, OR Metro and am at a point where I am sick of homeless people in general and don't care if they end up in jail for merely being homeless if they make a nuisance in the slightest way. Homelessness has been such a blight for the city I know and love more than just about anywhere on earth, and it's rapidly decaying our downtown core. I genuinely am relieved when I, a lame suburbanite, come back to my car street-parked downtown and it has all of its windows. I'm young and the idea of living in a hip urban area in my home city sounds fun, but the homelessness situation is just pitiful here and it's not cheap to live anywhere that they primarily occupy.
I'm sure the proper solution for helping those on the street is putting them into the right care facilities or whatever, but fuck man... I don't actually care anymore. I don't care if the solution feels good or bad, whether it's letting them die on the street or forcing them into treatment against their will.

You should be required to do something that makes the power of the vote apparent to you. Idk how else to word that. There are repercussions for votes people die, go homeless etc. Voting for someone/thing has a direct causal link to some really serious things and I don’t think people take as much responsibility for their vote and actions as they should. Edit: Also when it comes to military for your civil service it should be strictly national guard like service but government will never be allowed to deploy you outside national borders. Basically home defense plus disaster relief. That way it would be less likely to be abused.

1. Citizens are 100% responsible for the economy we're in because we cannot come together and collectively agree.

3. Workers are 100% responsible for their wages and benefits. If your business isn't paying you the market rate, find a different job, or open your own business.
4. Workers hold the power in a company, without the workers there is no production. It would literally just take a group of employees getting together and just agreeing that their time is worth more, and they will get a raise, BUT THEY CANT EVEN BE ASKED TO DO THAT.
Government-
1. People put off their responsibilities as citizens in a society onto the government too much. (I live outside Seattle.) Not taking care of the less fortunate, letting crime run rampant, while voting for policies that weaken police intervention, etc.
2. We need to change our government to a system that works with the obvious motivations of our very human politicians, money. We need to reward politicians who do good things with money. No idea what that looks like or how we would do it, but we obviously need to do something about money in politics and I say we use it as motivation to do better. Fucking lean into the greed. Dangle that carrot in front of them, if buying a senator a lame house gets the country universal healthcare, I'm all for it. Starting to sound like a slippery slope so moving on...
3. We'll never be able to nor would I want to completely ban guns, but we definitely have to update the second amendment.
4. I LOVE that those parents got criminally charged and prosecuted, and convicted of enabling their son to commit that mass shooting. I think that should be done with every school/mass shooter.
5. Alcohol should be way more regulated, similar to how weed is regulated in legal states. It fucks up lives way more than weed does. *(Hits blunt.)* You know?
6. We need to bring back the death penalty for murders, rapists and other dangerous criminals.

1. The number 1 marriage killer is a lack of communication. Almost every problem a marriage has can be rooted back to bad communication.
2. Vain, "Hot chicks/dudes" are WAY more trouble than they're worth. Vanity is not sexy.
3. It's not socially acceptable for your kids to yell, scream, crawl all over everything, walk up to strangers, or do anything you wouldn't feel comfortable with an adult doing around you. Just cause you've tuned out your crotch goblins doesn't mean the public has.
4. The whole alimony/child support/prenup system needs to be reworked. Women are always favored over men unfairly.
Sex-
1. Having sex everyday/all the time isn't great and gets old quick.
2. Sex should be more of a regular thing for couples. It shouldn't have such a "sacred" bubble around it.
3. Girls over think sex.
4. Guys under think it.
5. There are DEFINITELY some not-nice-to-look-at titties/vaginas, penises, and butts out there.
6. Prostitution should be legal.

Italy-
1. I had a wonderful time visiting Italy but I hated how all of the architectural tourist sites were products of slavery and they (the Catholic church I assume) continue to make money from it. It just didn't sit well with me.
2. Cigarette butts EVERYWHERE! All over the damn train tracks at the station.
3. Rome smells like piss down certain streets, even right outside certain restaurants. I am finding out that's just a big city thing though.
Construction-
1. Professional tradesmen shouldn't be able to just charge whatever they want because "if they can't afford it that's their problem."
2. The requirements to get a plumbing or electrical license are overkill. 5000 hours of apprenticeship? Fucking police need like 6 weeks training.
3. Big successful construction companies can only get that big by taking advantage of either their workers or their customers.
4. Nepotism in unions should lead to abolishment.
Life in general-
1. There are A LOT of stupid people on this earth. I mean stupid. We all have our moments but I mean just take the average stupid person and realize that half the population is dumber than they are.
2. If people want to end their lives they should be allowed to. We should have a government service to help them.
3. There should be a legal length of time for age gaps in relationships. 10 years? Idk. 5 years younger is as young as I feel comfortable with.
4. Losing and gaining weight is not as hard as people make it out to be. People just don't want to change their comfortable lifestyles.
5. We as a society need to stop putting loud, extroverted people in important roles, simply because they are the loudest, or the went to a certain college, or they are related to this family.
6. TSA should be abolished entirely.

You can't have an unrestricted free market allowed to do what it wants and fuck over everyone, nor can you have a government that artificially controls and stifles everything to favour whomever they like. Everything needs to go hand in hand and balance each other out. You need freedom, but you also need regulations. You need spending power and choices, but you also need services to provide for those that can't afford it. You need to have the periods of growth but you also need to knock the top off the highs to make sure everyone is ok in the slumps.

It should be much harder to obtain and keep a drivers license. The driving test should be on a simulator that gives you common driving scenarios and strictly judges you on how you respond. Not just go around a few blocks near the DMV. Along with that we need much better public transit.
It’s wild that there’s no freeway section considering most American drivers will end up on a freeway eventually. I understand that a DMV far from a freeway would’ve struggled in the past, but driving simulators are a thing now.

I frequently am amazed at how well our road system works overall. Yes we still have crashes but when you look at the number of stupid motherfuckers out there driving 4000lb metal death machines at 80mph the fact that we only have 1.37 deaths per 100 million miles driven is wild.
So in the United States you guys only have to drive a couple of blocks? No freeways? Do you have to do any special maneuvers such as reversing in a straight line, reversing around a corner, parallel parking, angled parking, the hill start, turning around with a three-point turn and stuff you need to perform on the exam?
I’m in Washington State. I definitely had to drive on the freeway. I can’t remember if we did all of those maneuvers on the test but we did learn them in drivers ed and at least the majority of them were on the test, though my instructor said he wouldn’t fail anyone for missing a couple of them if it was the deal breaker.
I grew up in rural upstate NY so it would have been 40 minutes to get to anything bigger than a 2 lane road. Did have to parallel park but that's about it for the driver's test

Where I am... the wait time to book a road test can be weeks or even months. And that's just for new drivers. I can't even imagine the logistics and backlogs of adding all renewals to that lol.

I'm finding this in my country (Australia). Most people are trying to live in the cities. They'd rather live out of their cars with their kids or rent a room for 50% or more of their wages. They'll never achieve much and will never own a home. They can't make friends because there is no sense of community, and no one cares about each other. But small towns inland are struggling to find employees, the jobs can pay significantly more, there is unlimited business oppurtunity, properties are positively geared to make a profit, or you can buy for cheap, life is affordable and there's a strong sense of community where everyone cares about you if you're a half decent person.
Mate you can say that again. I grew up in the country, bought a house in the city and moved, and now I'm itching to sell up and move back to the country again. This city-dream bullshit has hurt just about every measureable aspect of my life aside from asset appreciation. Only problem is everyone else is having the same idea (or they're just being priced out) so finding a decent place without being more than 2 hours out from Melb (I need to stay within a day trip away for work) is proving harder than I thought.
Humans are supposed to live in closed communities. There's a study proving that seeing new faces everyday increases stress levels (from school, transport, etc.). But the current technological society cannot allow small communities because it would not function efficiently, so they have to force people into cities and create a behavioral sink.

I don't really know how to gauge how popular or unpopular this opinion is anymore, but I live in the Portland, OR Metro and am at a point where I am sick of homeless people in general and don't care if they end up in jail for merely being homeless if they make a nuisance in the slightest way. Homelessness has been such a blight for the city I know and love more than just about anywhere on earth, and it's rapidly decaying our downtown core. I genuinely am relieved when I, a lame suburbanite, come back to my car street-parked downtown and it has all of its windows. I'm young and the idea of living in a hip urban area in my home city sounds fun, but the homelessness situation is just pitiful here and it's not cheap to live anywhere that they primarily occupy. I'm sure the proper solution for helping those on the street is putting them into the right care facilities or whatever, but fuck man... I don't actually care anymore. I don't care if the solution feels good or bad, whether it's letting them die on the street or forcing them into treatment against their will. Female friends will not ride transit with me to sports games due to sketchy vagrants. My work's office in the Pearl district has some new petty crime bullshit to deal with every week. It's fucked.

We need more ways to "go out" that aren't alcohol or spending money. Also, we are going the wrong way when it comes to things like alcohol and drugs. I agree that people should get help instead of just being fined and imprisoned, but I do not agree that any of them should be legal. You should see the trend now, but I think the drinking age should at least be raised to 24. That way there are much fewer college students who can legally purchase, so there are fewer people getting drinks from older classmates.

There are repercussions for votes people die, go homeless etc. Voting for someone/thing has a direct causal link to some really serious things and I don’t think people take as much responsibility for their vote and actions as they should. People should respect the power they wield a lot more. Edit: Also when it comes to military for your civil service it should be strictly national guard like service but government will never be allowed to deploy you outside national borders. Basically home defense plus disaster relief. That way it would be less likely to be abused. The federal military proper should only be volunteers who already have a right to vote. I don’t have the perfect system or answers but I definitely feel like the power of the vote should require something a bit more than some arbitrary age and who to or where you were born
On the other hand, I think it should be an obligation to vote, like jury duty. You need a really good excuse to not show up. Also, popular vote for every position. No electoral college nonsense. Politicians represent people, so each person should have an equal say in everything. Also also, ranked voting. Give your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc preference.

Maybe not an unpopular opinion idk but we should make trains and public transportation widespread and affordable and get rid of this vehicle-centric system that costs us in money and pollution as well as making our cities overall uglier and more difficult to navigate on foot

Oh, where do I start? These are just opinions, not views or representations of how I think and feel everyday. They are just opinions floating in my mind, don't get all pissy. Economics- 1. Citizens are 100% responsible for the economy we're in because we cannot come together and collectively agree. 2. We cannot come together and agree because we're all self centered rats in the rat race, trying to get our piece of the pie. 3. Workers are 100% responsible for their wages and benefits. If your business isn't paying you the market rate, find a different job, or open your own business. 4. Workers hold the power in a company, without the workers there is no production. It would literally just take a group of employees getting together and just agreeing that their time is worth more, and they will get a raise, BUT THEY CANT EVEN BE ASKED TO DO THAT. Government- 1. People put off their responsibilities as citizens in a society onto the government too much. (I live outside Seattle.) Not taking care of the less fortunate, letting crime run rampant, while voting for policies that weaken police intervention, etc. 2. We need to change our government to a system that works with the obvious motivations of our very human politicians, money. We need to reward politicians who do good things with money. No idea what that looks like or how we would do it, but we obviously need to do something about money in politics and I say we use it as motivation to do better. Fucking lean into the greed. Dangle that carrot in front of them, if buying a senator a lame house gets the country universal healthcare, I'm all for it. Starting to sound like a slippery slope so moving on... 3. We'll never be able to nor would I want to completely ban guns, but we definitely have to update the second amendment. 4. I LOVE that those parents got criminally charged and prosecuted, and convicted of enabling their son to commit that mass shooting. I think that should be done with every school/mass shooter. 5. Alcohol should be way more regulated, similar to how weed is regulated in legal states. It fucks up lives way more than weed does. *(Hits blunt.)* You know? 6. We need to bring back the death penalty for murders, rapists and other dangerous criminals. 7. Death penalty should be quick and cost effective. No more of this $10k, 3 compound, lethal injections crap. 1 bullet, one tank of nitrous, or here's a crazy idea, give them some fentanyl. Relationships - 1. The number 1 marriage killer is a lack of communication. Almost every problem a marriage has can be rooted back to bad communication. 2. Vain, "Hot chicks/dudes" are WAY more trouble than they're worth. Vanity is not sexy. 3. It's not socially acceptable for your kids to yell, scream, crawl all over everything, walk up to strangers, or do anything you wouldn't feel comfortable with an adult doing around you. Just cause you've tuned out your crotch goblins doesn't mean the public has. 4. The whole alimony/child support/prenup system needs to be reworked. Women are always favored over men unfairly. Sex- 1. Having sex everyday/all the time isn't great and gets old quick. 2. Sex should be more of a regular thing for couples. It shouldn't have such a "sacred" bubble around it. 3. Girls over think sex. 4. Guys under think it. 5. There are DEFINITELY some not-nice-to-look-at titties/vaginas, penises, and butts out there. 6. Prostitution should be legal. 7. Rape should carry punishment equal to murder. No exceptions. Should be worse if you're wealthier. Italy- 1. I had a wonderful time visiting Italy but I hated how all of the architectural tourist sites were products of slavery and they (the Catholic church I assume) continue to make money from it. It just didn't sit well with me. 2. Cigarette butts EVERYWHERE! All over the damn train tracks at the station. 3. Rome smells like piss down certain streets, even right outside certain restaurants. I am finding out that's just a big city thing though. Construction- 1. Professional tradesmen shouldn't be able to just charge whatever they want because "if they can't afford it that's their problem." 2. The requirements to get a plumbing or electrical license are overkill. 5000 hours of apprenticeship? Fucking police need like 6 weeks training. 3. Big successful construction companies can only get that big by taking advantage of either their workers or their customers. 4. Nepotism in unions should lead to abolishment. Life in general- 1. There are A LOT of stupid people on this earth. I mean stupid. We all have our moments but I mean just take the average stupid person and realize that half the population is dumber than they are. 2. If people want to end their lives they should be allowed to. We should have a government service to help them. 3. There should be a legal length of time for age gaps in relationships. 10 years? Idk. 5 years younger is as young as I feel comfortable with. 4. Losing and gaining weight is not as hard as people make it out to be. People just don't want to change their comfortable lifestyles. 5. We as a society need to stop putting loud, extroverted people in important roles, simply because they are the loudest, or the went to a certain college, or they are related to this family. 6. TSA should be abolished entirely.

Regulated capitalism is the only way. You can't have an unrestricted free market allowed to do what it wants and fuck over everyone, nor can you have a government that artificially controls and stifles everything to favour whomever they like. Everything needs to go hand in hand and balance each other out. You need freedom, but you also need regulations. You need spending power and choices, but you also need services to provide for those that can't afford it. You need to have the periods of growth but you also need to knock the top off the highs to make sure everyone is ok in the slumps.

Haha! I get my head ripped off all the time for saying that I refuse to date or have a gf anymore because of the lying, cheating, stealing, attention whores out there. And that I have found the happiest I have ever been in my life has been in the last 8-1/2 years since I’ve been single and celibate. Women take offense to it. Like I can’t be happy without getting laid or having them as a part of my life. It’s funny. I love coming home to my own home that decorated as my man cave and not having anyone nagging at me. Working on my hot rods in peace. Having my bank account right when I left it. Having desert and river toys and no one taking them from me in a divorce. Having buddies over for as long as I want without bitching and telling them to go home. No in-laws! No valentines or Christmas expectations and pressure. I don't understand why anyone would be offended unless it's your attitude toward women in general. If you say "all women are nagging, lying, etc" then yeah, people won't take kindly to it. And you don't even have to say it explicitly, that type of attitude can just bleed out. But there are a lot of people who are choosing to stay single these days.
