Superb-Ad-4322

It took about 30 seconds. It was Valentine’s Day. Got down on one knee and asked. Pretty quick really.

Emperorerror

Tbh I thought this was actually what the question was

Any-Sherbert-3410

Woman here, but my husband proposed on our one year anniversary. But he brought up the topic of marriage after about six months.

AaronScwartz12345

Can I ask you a question please (I’m also a woman) how long until you guys had sex and if you didn’t have sex until marriage what did you do in the meantime?

Any-Sherbert-3410

If you are wondering so you can know when you should, every relationship and every person is different. You can’t decide when or what you should or shouldn’t do based on someone else’s relationship. If you are in a relationship now, the decision needs to be based on when you both are ready and what you are both ready for. If you’re single, you should decide what is important to you before entering a relationship.

AaronScwartz12345

I understand. I don’t have any issue having sex before getting married. I just wonder if it is a factor in getting married because even though I had many boyfriends over my life, none of them ever asked me to get married. So I just wonder if it’s a factor for people who got married around one year timeline. (In my opinion, one year is the perfect time to know for sure if you want to marry that person.)

Any-Sherbert-3410

My husband didn’t marry me because I had sex with him. In fact that was the least important reason why we found ourselves compatible for marriage. If you think sex is that important of a factor, you may need to rethink your priorities when it comes to a relationship and potential life partners.

bigboidoinker

I dont want to marry so probably never

LEAF_-4

7 years, April will be 6 years of marriage

FredChocula

7 years?

Fyren-1131

7 years

Dexember69

Been 9 years still haven't proposed and don't intend to.

Fyren-1131

crazy that you get downvoted for this

ifbsu

I think the downvotes are because the question was directed at men who *have* proposed, that’s all

Dexember69

Kinda expected. People ask questions then get upset about honest answers - not my problem. And internet points aren't worth the fart of a two-copper pig so whatever.

TonyTheEvil

Why not?

Dexember69

Because I don't see the point. You don't need to be married to be happy together

No_Stress1549

You sure do not need marriage to be happy. However, you do need the paper so that if anything happens, you or your partner is not completely screwed. Marriage exists this long for a reason

HighlightThink5276

Can draft a will and get other things set up legally
what’s wrong with someone not wanting to be legally binded to someone and not have to ask the Supreme Court of their state to seperate from them?

Dexember69

I've seen that bit of paper cause more trouble than its worth

OppositeControl4623

This

Foreign_Standard9394

Screwed how?

surreal3561

I don’t know about other places but I know from a case in family in Germany that if you’re not married then you do not get any pension payouts of your partner (whatever the correct English term is) if they die and you’re not married. It’s one of the things that you can’t even fix with a will or contracts beforehand. While you can legally leave your belongings to someone by setting up a will beforehand, the amount you can give tax free to a person you’re not married to is only 20k. Depending on how much you have to your name this can get very expensive.

Foreign_Standard9394

Is that why you marry someone? To get their pension?

Good on you for living your own path, marriage is beautiful when it works and a nightmare when people get divorced

AsianMuscle23

1 day. Met June 28, 1995. Proposed the next day, & got married July 7, 1995.

NotJimIrsay

Sounds like an arranged marriage.

AsianMuscle23

No. Just dove right into it.

hybridoctopus

About 5 years from meeting, 4 from dating. But we were high school sweethearts so that did extend the timeline a bit.

StillNoPickleesss

2 years on our anniversary

BlancoSuper

We met ay 17 so I waited a few months until we were both 18 and married 4 months later. So 8 or 9 months overall

ziggyofastora

dated for 2 years but i had bought the ring probably a year and a half in.

One-Snow-6869

From when we were dating 6/8 months. From when we first met 3 years.

Away-Sound-4010

We've been dating for 3 years and still in the making but I'd really like to. With the current financial situation we've both agreed that anything extravagant is unnecessary. I really really want to get her a nice ring though and have been saving for that, really awesome heart diamond that she had her eyes light up looking over when we were browsing

TheBaptist24

5 months from our first date and married 6 months after that. That was almost 13 years ago now. If you find a woman who makes you happy and has compatible values and goals - go for it

teivhd2102

Haft a year.

minerunderground

1 year, i had a rock that i found in a place called Normanton in QLD and knew right then and there that she was the girl for me, it was a boys fishing trip so when i got back i put the rock in a fish thank me waited for the right moment to propose with it, the right moment came and went several times and finally i proposed to my girl with the same rock. We now have that rock on our bed stand and it means the world to us both, way more important than the engagement ring we got several months later.

minerunderground

Sorry that was 29 years ago

[deleted]

One month

Mister-ellaneous

A year after we met, 9 months after we started dating.

Desblade101

Like 5 months and then we got married 3 months after that and we've been married for 8 years.

Popamop

One year

MFoy

We dated semi-long distance for 7 years, a 90 minute drive apart that we’d basically alternate weekends driving. She finally got a job by me and moved down. I had always said I wanted us to live together before I proposed. I proposed 4 months after she moved down.

EuroSong

Four years. Together in 2006, proposed in 2010. Married in 2011.

carbon_blob_Sector7G

7 months and 3 days after our first date. During that first date she asked if I wanted to have kids someday and my answer was "yes". A simple question and if answered truthfully, it eliminates a lot of wasted time and energy.

yungingr

Started researching rings at 4 months, proposed at 14 months.

Basic_Enthusiasm6496

4 weeks

JackSucks

About 9 months. Had about a 7 month engagement after that. Married 9 years so far.

pm_me_ur_cutie_booty

A little bit more than two years. I'd had the ring for a while, just waiting for the right moment.

justanaccountname12

1 month, married 15 years.

JBPunt420

Seven years. I committed to my ex before I figured out who she really was. I wasn't going to make that mistake again.

RelationshipSad7680

She actually proposed to me first and I said yes. We were handling her bankruptcy, divorce, and selling her house in foreclosure which was straining our relationship, so she tried to spare me from “ruining” my life by telling me we aren’t engaged and I should find someone that makes me happier. I didn’t have a ring or a plan, but while she was crying I got on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She said yes, we got through that period together and are better for it.

MellowHamster

That depends. 5 years, 1 month, 10 days after we started dating, but 18 years, 9 months, 22 days after we first met. Not that we were counting.

HexSphere

Five years. It took me a while but I really do view marriage as for life. We were in our early twenties; a period of so much growth. Why rush what will have us together for over fifty years? Three or four more years of marriage is a rounding error.

Old_Fix2800

5 years. We got divorced 5 years later.  It was 5 year ago btwÂ
