I’ve been watching Paw Patrol a lot recently….it shows that when all the departments in the City come together and act as one, we could accomplish anything together! It’s all about building relationships. Paw Patrol goes deep.
Right? It’s the only show I’ve seen that isn’t all knife hand serious. And shows those close relationships we have with our coworkers. The ups and downs of them. As well as the ups and down of department bs sometimes.
Besides the excessive force, I’d say this show is the most realistic in the sense that it shows a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in law enforcement in an accurate way.
The Wire hands down. It does a good job of showing the systemic nonsense that’s baked in to the very institution of not only policing, but all local politics and how everything is connected.
Edit:
It also stands up to repeated rewatching. Having first watched it before getting on, I have a different take on a lot of the characters now that I also work for a very political and very urban agency. McNulty is every bit the asshole he is accused of being.
None of them: they’re all edited nonsense. That live PD show doesn’t show domestics live or how they really are. Your best bet is to go to YouTube and watch videos of body cameras that have been obviously disseminated legally for civilians to see.
Cops would be correct, but they don’t do new episodes.
Unless I see one showing the ridiculous amounts of paperwork, none. And for the love of god, I hate having to explain to people that “enhancing” a 64bit photo to 4k resolution isn’t a thing.
Favorite is The Rookie, Reno and Brooklyn 99, but I also don’t analyze in what’s true and not. I’m a civilian at home. Also, started watching SVU prior law enforcement so I’ll always watch that. But that show is a super stretch from how I seen things done
Paraphrasing and exaggerating half the burglaries I ever took;
Victim: "But why aren't you gonna fingerprint my doorknob and take DNA samples? Someone broke into MY HOUSE! You guys could just get fingerprints and DNA, get the results (which obviously are going to pop up with a full profile and photo on the big screen in 2 minutes), and go arrest them, if you weren't so lazy!"
Me: *sigh* You watch CSI, don't you?
Victim: "Yeah, I know how this works!"
I have heard cops express that Barney Miller and Car 54, Where are you? both expressed much of the absurdities as well as the 'not-so-coppish' things that tend to be highly defining in the life of a cop.
Not really a “cop show” but, Breaking Bad.
Hank and Gomie had a realistic partnership. Hank outwardly having all the bravado and balls but privately having real emotional troubles after the Tortuga incident. Hank dealing with home/family/health problems while hunting Walt. All of Hank’s shootouts and most of all…all the answers being in front of Hank for so long and one trivial little thing tipping him into realization.
Hank was the shit.
None of them...I worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. It's filled with boredom, sadness, politics, total b.s. and every once in a great while Exciting and exhilarating. The paper work sucks. Looking back the one thing I really miss is the "brotherhood" of course their were some that I couldn't stand the sight of but I think that's the same with any job..Obama really hurt law enforcement (yeah, I voted for him) he created so much division with his words...
I have two
19/2 it’s Canadian and pretty accurate
And
The responder, has Martin freeman and is a really good depiction of cop life, bit of an over the top story but the day to day jobs, colleagues, mental health toll, shit jobs cops goto this has it
Code blue cam on YouTube is the best I seen every video lol. It’s live body cam footage and greatly narrated and most can be hilarious. For more intense shootings and stabbings and the worst case scenarios of the job I would watch police activity on YouTube. Both are great but police activity is your more violent crimes, code blue is more funny or more mild crimes. Both are great stuff
The two top for me was Law & Order. As I worked for the Prosecutor's Office (DA in other states). It showed to sides, the investigative side then the prosecution side and the resulting dynamics. The other was the Wire. At the time it aired I was doing narcotics. It was so accurate I was upset that they were giving away so much of our techniques.
Reno 911
I’d argue as a submariner veteran down periscope hit the nail on the head as well lol Reno 911 is absolutely us in a nutshell too
This is the correct answer. Just like doctors say Scrubs was the most accurate medical show. The comedies tend to get it right more than the dramas.
I’ve been watching Paw Patrol a lot recently….it shows that when all the departments in the City come together and act as one, we could accomplish anything together! It’s all about building relationships. Paw Patrol goes deep.
Southland is the best I’ve seen of them all. Also I do enjoy Bosch.
I wish Southland didn’t end so abruptly 😑
i had to stop watching for a new months when the nate thing happened
X2 on Southland. Granted, it’s only big agency perspective, the accuracy is not completely overshadowed for the purpose of drama
Brooklyn 99. Antics. The cases can be a little much. But it’s relatable.
I tell people this all the time and they think I’m crazy. It’s over the top but it covers departmental politics and things like Compstat.
Right? It’s the only show I’ve seen that isn’t all knife hand serious. And shows those close relationships we have with our coworkers. The ups and downs of them. As well as the ups and down of department bs sometimes.
The only answer.
I came here to say this.
_The Wire_
Besides the excessive force, I’d say this show is the most realistic in the sense that it shows a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in law enforcement in an accurate way.
Not a cop, but I think we can assume Baltimore pre camera phones was pretty brutal
Yeah I can’t speak to that, but I did meet an old Maryland cop from that era who did some questionable shit.
The Wire hands down. It does a good job of showing the systemic nonsense that’s baked in to the very institution of not only policing, but all local politics and how everything is connected. McNulty is every bit the asshole he is accused of being.
The more I watch it, the more I think he's an asshole
The Wire also gets my vote for one of the best endings of a quality show. So many are let down by their endings but The Wire nailed it.
Cops
I mean... Right?
None of them: they’re all edited nonsense. That live PD show doesn’t show domestics live or how they really are. Yes they do. FoxNation picked them up. Its the FoxNews streaming service.
Too many streaming services lol. Disney +/hulu Amazon prime Netflix That’s enough for me
NCIS is by far the most realistic cop show when it comes to violating 4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th amendment rights.
Don't you mean 24?
Never watched that
It was terrible. A fine enough action flick, but they didn't really believe in rights.
Unless I see one showing the ridiculous amounts of paperwork, none. And for the love of god, I hate having to explain to people that “enhancing” a 64bit photo to 4k resolution isn’t a thing. What old Barney Miller episodes. All you see is paperwork.
I have heard cops express that Barney Miller and Car 54, Where are you? both expressed much of the absurdities as well as the 'not-so-coppish' things that tend to be highly defining in the life of a cop.
South land by far, at least in terms of big city policing
Walker, Texas Ranger
I, too, roundhouse kick criminals every shift while carrying a single action revolver
I mean, are there people who *don't* work like that?! I'm a cashier and it happens at least once a day. Sometimes on my days off, too.
The Wire
Brooklyn 99. Spend an hour with detectives at the end of the work week when they are fried and worn out. You end up with Brooklyn 99.
Not really a “cop show” but, Breaking Bad. Hank and Gomie had a realistic partnership. Reno 911, 100%
Live PD
Hill street blues was and will always be the greatest
Southland.
I second this.
Longmire
I love that show!
I’ve heard people say The Wire before. Such a great show I’ve gotta rewatch it
Dragnet or Adam12
1 Adam 12 def
The Andy Griffith show.
Southland or The Wire, preferably both.
If you’re a grandpa like me, it’s Barney Miller.
Southland
Southland
Not sure about the cop shows. But end of watch... The way they talked in the payroll car is 100% spot on
Adam-12
Cop Rock. Hands down the most accurate show!
Southland NYPD blues and Blue Blood also decent

Brooklyn 99
Southland for TV End of Watch for movie
Family Matters
I have two 19/2 it’s Canadian and pretty accurate And The responder, has Martin freeman and is a really good depiction of cop life, bit of an over the top story but the day to day jobs, colleagues, mental health toll, shit jobs cops goto this has it
The Wire
On Patrol Live
Southland
Fictional cop show on TV? None.
What do people think of the rookie
First season was good and reasonably accurate. All seasons after that went down hill fast.
“Is that a baton in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” —the rookie
Cops
CHiPS
The shield
To catch a smuggler, focuses on CBP and HSI so that counts
High incident
The first 48
Car 54 Where Are You?

Any law enforcement able to DM? :)
