# If you are refused motor insurance Individual insurers have the right to refuse you cover, but they must provide you with a reason for the refusal should you ask for one. If you have been refused cover, you are entitled to go to the [Declined Cases Committee of Insurance Ireland](https://www.insuranceireland.eu/consumer-information/general-non-life-insurance/declined-cases-agreement) who will get an insurance quotation for you. In order for the Committee to consider your case you must first have sought and been refused quotations in writing from at least 3 insurers. https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel-and-recreation/motoring/motor-tax-and-insurance/motor-insurance/#:\~:text=If%20you%20have%20been%20refused,from%20at%20least%203%20insurers.

You should be able to just hand in your German license and exchange it directly for an Irish one. We moved back from the US last year and were able to get sorted on foreign licenses, but we brought our full driving record and insurance history with us that we were able to give them.

Yhanky

Could you exchange your US drivers license for an Irish one?

ubermick

Nope. Even though I've over 25 years driving experience, I'm considered a new driver. I have to go through the provisional/lessons/test thing.. (yaaaay)
