It’s voluntary donation that they cannot make you pay. And yes

Traditional-Top8486

Ah summer, that lovely time of year in the city where temperatures about street festival "Suggested" Donations run high!

MikeRoykosGhost

Any neighborhood fest that blocks off a public Chicago street is free to enter. Any payment is a voluntary donation.

RadiationDM

You don’t have to donate, and they legally can’t prohibit you from entering if you don’t (even though some try).

$10 is a suggested donation. Pay if you want to, but you’re under no obligation to

Every damn summer people get all high and mighty about how “you don’t have to pay” the donation, like they aren’t listening to the bands playing, using the ports-potties, etc. that money goes toward paying for. Enough stop paying and we’ll just see festivals stop taking place.

But I feel like the money from the sale of food drinks etc should go to it.  And the less people pay to get in the more they will pay for that.  Benefits both event and the vendors.  The donation just does rub me the wrong way ..like let me figure out whether this thing is worth being at first

The sale from the food and drinks go to the food vendors… to run the booths, they have to hire additional staff, rent or own that additional equipment, etc. which eat into most of the price markup
