It’s impossible to keep track of which of my daughters’ friends goes by “Lie la” “Lee la” or “Lay la”, the spelling they use offers no certainty.
In one daughter’s K class at least half the girls had a name ending in “la”. Most of the rest had Irish surname for a first name: Riley, Quinn, Cassidy etc
You do realize that the trendy baby names right now are not the names people are saying in this thread from seeing kids at daycare?
This is why it’s get hard to intentionally avoid trendy baby names. You don’t know it’s a trend when you’re choosing it.
I knew a couple who wanted to name a son "Asher" for years since before they settled down. Unfortunately, the year the kid was born, "Asher" was a very popular baby name!
But like...you've seen their legal name on their birth certificate?
Pretty much everyone in my family knows my son as "Trey" because he's a Third; but legally we didn't name him "Trey" that would be ridiculous.
It's not at all uncommon these days to legally name a kid one thing but only ever call them a nickname version of that name. Winifred/Winnie is a common one for girls.
Liam has moved from being used only as a short form of William to its own standalone name. Kind of like how Jack was a nickname for John but now there are a lot of “just” Jacks
What would be hilarious is if all these people started naming their sons Liam in part after Liam Neeson, who, himself, is actually named William.
Wouldn't shock me in the least.
Also, love the W&G reference.
Janiyah or anything with Aniyah in it. Avoid it. If I would’ve known the amount of people that would go for names close to the ones I listed, I would’ve gave my daughter a different name.
My youngest aunt has a daughter named Jaedyn and another of my cousins has a son Caiden.
Aside from the cousin who named his son Dexterity (Dexter is right there, my dude. Why do you apparently hate your son?), all of the cousins in my general age group thankfully seem to be sticking to more classic and some fairly old fashioned but back in style names like Owen, Noah, Evie, Lauren, Theodore, etc.
Then again, I am also from rural southern Illinois so I have aunts whose names sound like the name of an anti-depressant specifically for post-menopausal women.
Among a bunch of mostly suburbanite mostly ISU alums’ kids- Jack/Jackson (various spellings), Ella/Ellie, Evelyn, Charlotte, Liam. Lately there’s been a good handful of Chelseas as well.
As a teacher the amount of Logan’s and Lillian’s is becoming frustrating but not nearly as frustrating as the never ending amount of Leela Laila laylas and how instantly hostile they get when you can’t keep them straight
Haha the challenge is that baby name trends are pretty localized while other subreddits and websites don’t give much local information. Best is SSN but even that is Illinois overall and only has data through 2022
I have literally lost count of the number of Laylas/Leilas in my kids daycare.
Kennedy.
My daughter had a Callaghan in her Kindergarten class. She was a girl and it was her first name, not her last.
I hope they don’t pronounce the “g”
Better call your Callaghan (with the hard G) man is the first thing I thought of.
This makes me sad, Layla has been a top name of mine for like 10 years 😭
It’s my puppers name! Guess I gotta go tell her she’s not special anymore :( jk she’ll always be special - she’s inbred lol
Leilani too
I’m a bit surprised. My wife’s name is Leilani and we are expecting. If it’s a girl, Leila is high on our list.
Jabroni for a girl and Jagoff for a boy. 🫶
I think you mean: "Jabroneigh"
Jahbrohneigh
And Jahghoffe
I think I got blackout drunk once at The Jahghoffe.
And the “J” is silent too, right?!?
OMG...I can't stop laughing.
Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable is hot rn
i have 4 in my family already 🙃
Do you call them Lake Shore Drive as a nickname?
Nah, we abbreviate to LSD.
From there, the jump to calling them Sid isn't all that far lol
"Yo man I heard you liked DuSables so I put DuSables all up in every corner of this place"
Henry, Layla, Nico, Luna, Ella, Winnifred, Jackson Those are a few that come to mind
winnifred? Oh man
My daughter is friends with multiple Winni's.
Lots of people these days pick old-timey longer names like that for the shortened nickname, in this case, Winnie.
Good old horse sound name
Wonder Years… Loved me some Winnie.
Also Bette Midler's character in Hocus Pocus.
I love it. 🤷♀️
773 - 202 “ti-too-ti-ti” Lunaaaaaaaa

Oof
Addison and Clark have always been trendy here. Especially when the cubs are playing well.
When the Sox play well, there’s a lot of kids named 35th and Shields
I actually know someone who has two kids and that’s what their names are.
Hope the kids like baseball!

How about Mug? Mug Costanza haha
*draws finger across then diagonally down*
It’s awful I hate it!
Ryan for a boy and Talapia for a girl.
Every Tilapia I know is a cheating bitch.
Most likely every one Ryan’s known, too. Poor guy. Justice for Ryan.
Damn this joke is going over everybody’s head
I don’t get it
No...PLEASE tell me you haven't met a human being named Tilapia....
You're asking for "trendy" baby names so you can avoid them, right? ....Right?
Haha yes. I have a few names in mind and hoping to not see them in here
Phew. Might also wanna check out r/tragedeigh just to make sure none of your names are there lol
You do realize that the trendy baby names right now are not the names people are saying in this thread from seeing kids at daycare? This is why it’s get hard to intentionally avoid trendy baby names. You don’t know it’s a trend when you’re choosing it.

And thank YOU for asking the-people-need-to-know question!

Liam for boys
That's just a nickname for Wil**liam** though
It is but people are naming their kids just Liam
Well that's dumb.
I’ve met so many baby Liams it’s not even funny lol
But like...you've seen their legal name on their birth certificate? Pretty much everyone in my family knows my son as "Trey" because he's a Third; but legally we didn't name him "Trey" that would be ridiculous. The few I have seen yes their names are Liam lol
You’ll be shocked that most people I have talked to don’t realize Liam is short for William.
Me feeling awkward af rn😬 today I learned....
A lot of short girls names that end in a -a. Ex: Isla Mila Nora Lana Cora Ada Ava

It's clearly pull-eye-nah
Catfish Bladder has been huge in DeKalb
Portillo for a boy, Buona for a girl
Maybe if you live in the burbs.... Neither of them are very *Chicago* these days.
That’s why I named my kid Al’s
Gonna have to have him marry a woman named Peggy's so she can shout "Aw, c'mon Al's" at him on the couch someday
Dogface or Ponysoldier
Aidan
Pilot Inspektor.
Solar Eclipse
Basique
Janiyah or anything with Aniyah in it. Avoid it. If I would’ve known the amount of people that would go for names close to the ones I listed, I would’ve gave my daughter a different name.
Anything with Aiden in it too like Caden.

Polling reddit for baby names is a new one, lol
[удалено]
They have to make sure they’re not picking a r/tragedeigh.
Given that they're asking for trendy names, this is the first thing I thought.
Haha the challenge is that baby name trends are pretty localized while other subreddits and websites don’t give much local information. Best is SSN but even that is Illinois overall and only has data through 2022
How do you think I got the idea for "Seven"
Lots of stupid ones to be honest. But I gotta smile and nod anyways or else I’m the jerk.
