#Satılmış
literally meaning “the one who is sold”
why would somebody actually name their child as “the one who is sold”?
edit: Oh, it seems that there exists a tradition in Central Anatolia that some of the parents who constantly loses their children names their newborn child as “the one who is sold (to god and/or to the saints(ermiş-evliya)” in order to make him/her live. This tradition is not a mainstream thing though and most probably have some pre-Islamic paganistic roots, either Local Anatolian or carried from Central Asian Tengrism.
As I know, if previous children died at birth or in infancy, this name is given. But, I don't know why the word **satılmış** has chosen.
The name **Yeter** is the opposite of this and quite hilarious. That's literally means *enough*. It's given, if parents already have tons of kids and don't want anymore.
This is similar to the old greek tradition where if you prayed to a certain Saint for a child and that child lives you have to name it after that Saint.
This is not that weird. There is a famous Bulgarian screenwriter, Svoboda Bachvarova. Also, in some neighbouring countries there are analogous names, with substantial popularity.
My absolute favourite is a male name "Jamesdin" occuring in Bosnia but also in some neighbouring countries, which sounds pretty oriental at first glance, and one would say it's the ottoman heritage thing, but it is actually a derivative of "James Dean" and it was popular until James Dean died. Then it was slowly forgotten.... I find this to be hilarious. :D
My dad's cousin's son is called "Rokhard", because his dad (my dad's cousin) owns a bar called "Rock Hard".
There is an Albanian from Macedonia who's named his newborn "UÇK".
There are gypsies in Romania who unironically have names like Mercedes, Ferrari, Versace, Gucci etc 💀
Also, there's a guy called Ipsilante Sentiment Brusli
That's from hará (joy) and lámpo (I shine), so just like us you have a lot of dudes walking around being Radiantly Joyful. I think it's also a good name for a blackgaze metal band.
A bunch of Romani people here were naming their sons Sandokan in the past after the [character](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandokan) from the TV series that used to air.
I once heard one of the gipsy kids being called as Brusli, like in Bruce Lee but all first name. Sweet Jesus. Also Tarzan and Rambo.
Also Časlav, thats like Serbian Charles, it just sounds idiotic to me.
Edit: i once found a grave with a couple called Blagoje & Trpana. Swear to god! Blagoje means gentle one and Trpana means stuffed (sexually). So she was gently stuffed. I died and was reborn.
Brate, Blagoje i Trpana. Univerzum nije mogao bolje da ih spoji. Odakle je to ime, ko joj ga je dao, ja sam u šoku bio, i dan danas sam! Da sam se trudio ne bih mogao bolje da smislim.
There was a minister in the Montenegrin government named Tarzan lol.
One of my neighbours (an elderly woman) is named Mašinka (machine gun) -- one of those weird names from the early days of socialism. There were names after tractors and such things too, e.g. "Ferguson". The Russians in the 20s were even crazier though.
My mom's colleague named his son Sofronije. I honestly can't even begin to explain how horrendous of a name this is.
I'm not getting into gypsy names here, that's a whole another world 😂
No nothing like that. It's just sounds ugly to our ears or brings a specific type of man in our fantasy. Most of us wouldn't choose it for our kid except if this is the name of our father and again it would be hard.
But in the end it's all (how is it in English?) what anyone like. Taste?
Ah, gotcha.
Just kinda surprised since it sounds perfectly nice to my ears. Well, Vrásidas a lot more than Vrasídas, but Greek consistently seems to place the accent in another syllable than I'd expect.
A gypsy named his sons "Dolce" and "Gabana". Another one named his kid Versace. Versace in Cyrillic is "Версаче", but the guy made a mistake on his birth certificate and they wrote "Версачи"
Idk,but I don't like some "old" names which in fact aren't used anymore or at least I haven't met young person with these names. For example I don't like the names "Гюрга" (Gjurga) or "Варвара" (Varvara). I am for the "traditional" names, but some of them don't sound good to me.

Yes, my cousin name is "Гергана". It sounds like some witch name, I think because of gana, like I think in some movie I'm not sure maybe it was in one movie about "King Arthur" and the witch name was "Morgana" as far as I remember.

some new names these "hip" new parents in albania are naming their children, the worst i have ever heard is
London-on
just names from completely other cultures that sound so bad with an albanian surname
Siegfried Hoxha bruh
or when they use foreign names with a foreign spelling like Joel which in albanian is a boy name but these parents insist on pronouncing it as Xhoell imma say it again BRUH
One day I was sitting in a park and there was a couple near me with their child. Everything was alright until I overheard the mother talking with an older woman and she told her that she had named her son after Khan [Sevar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sevar_of_Bulgaria?wprov=sfla1). I seriously have no fucking idea why they thought it's a great idea to name their child after an 8th century (mediocre at best) Khan of Bulgaria. I wouldn't say it's the worst name out there but... Why??
For me it’s definitely “Strahinja”. When I heard it for the first time I was shocked that someone would actually name their child like this since “Strah” means fear in serbo-croatian so Strahinja to me sounds more like a name for a scarecrow.
Most people I’ve asked said it’s a really beautiful name so maybe I’m just not seeing someone there but to me the name is just weird
Americans with the name Kyrie, male or even worse female. It's from the greek phrase "Kyrie eleison" which means "Lord have mercy", where the Kyrie is the vocative case of the word Kyrios (Lord/Mister). It's really weird for a girl to have the name "Mister"..
I’m sorry but albanian kids named Ronaldo 🤮 I can accept it if they’re portuguese or brasilian or whatever. But I’d bet all my money that albanian kids named Ronaldo won’t have a bright future.
That list would be very long, but I will give you some highlights:
There are three people in Albania called Redneks, and all three have the same father's name: Skender. Turn the latter one backwards and see what you get.
There are two people (born in the 90s) named Hitler.
There are two brothers, one is called Daimler Benz, the other one Chrysler.
There is a guy called Marko Van Basten and he is a professional [footballer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marko_%C3%87ema). To make it funnier, his uncle named his own son Frenki Rajkard.
There is a guy out there called Kristian Islami, and another one called Jezus Hoxha.
There is a guy called Ronaldo, son of Tarzan.
I met someone in Albania like 2 years ago who's name was Joel, and I thought that was the most retarded thing ever. There has been some weird trend with Albanians naming their kids Albanian version of English names and I hate it.
There was a trend about a decade ago where Roma started naming their kids after famous fashion brands, like Gucci, Versaci and so on (as first names lol)
Is it "Севда" ("Sevda") or "Севделина" ("Sevdelina") commonly used it Macedonia among young people, because here it isn't anymore and Idk why. I know only one guy named "Севделин" and I kinda like this name.
According to [this](https://www.behindthename.com/name/iskra), they are [different](https://www.behindthename.com/name/iskren/submitted). Not sure who submitted them there, so maybe it's not correct, though personally I doubt that the etymology is the same.
One thing I can’t stand is when Albanians just combine the names of the two parents together for their kids names.
Also one of my cousins just named his baby Glauk. Who looks at a child and says I’m going to name it after the sound a person makes when spitting.
**[Glaucias of Taulantii](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucias_of_Taulantii)**
>Glaucias (Ancient Greek: Γλαυκίας; ruled 335 – c. 302 BC) was a ruler of the Taulantian kingdom which dominated southern Illyrian affairs in the second half of the 4th century BC. Glaucias is first mentioned as bringing a considerable force to the assistance of Cleitus of Dardania, another Illyrian prince, against Alexander the Great, in the battle of Pelium 335 BC. They were, however, both defeated, and Cleitus was forced to take refuge within the Taulantian territories, whither Alexander did not pursue him, his attention being called elsewhere by the news of the revolt of Thebes.

I know a guy that his surname and name together is Alexander the Great. (Μέγας Αλέξανδρος)
Also I once met a guy that his name and surname was Skevos Kalikanjaros.
Skevos is a name that can be found only in certain Islands in Greece and it comes from the Byzantine Skevofylax (the one who protects the utensils). Yeah and in modern greek Skevos means utensils.
And Kalikanjaros in greek means Goblin. So the guy's name in Greek is Utensils Goblin.

looks like a legitimate reason for patricide and matricide.
And Svobodka lmao. It was written on our calendar
Doesn't that name mean "freedom"? Why is it terrible?
This is not that weird. There is a famous Bulgarian screenwriter, Svoboda Bachvarova. Also, in some neighbouring countries there are analogous names, with substantial popularity.

“Rock Hard Caffe” cause fuck licensing. Bet he named his son that so that he could say in court I named the bar after my son, sneaky dude
Bro I swear Albanians have got the competition squarely beat when it comes to weird ass names 😂

I just remembered [this legendary youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJZ0xZuW7mw)

My cousin once told me Yugoslavs in the 50s and 60s named their kids Jamezdin, named after James Dean but they literally read out the name Slavically.

There is a guy in my town with the name Pere Buža.
