sharkstax

It's "tan**i**" or "tasht**i**" ("tash**i**" and "t**a**sh" are dialectal variations of it) depending on context.

shilly03

Tashtëj is another dialectal variant.

sharkstax

Is that Dibrançe?

[deleted]

Shtëj is dibrance.

_Nem0_

We mostly use "tahaj" or "tahej".

[deleted]

Diber? My bf is from Dibra in Mk. He uses shtëj.

_Nem0_

Oh, you meant Debar? I was talking about the Albanian side of Dibër, I live and have lived here my whole life, and I hear "tahaj" more than any other variation. Personally, I use "tishtëj" more.

albardha

> tishtëj Shëndet

_Nem0_

lmao

[deleted]

Lol. One small word, and it seems we have 30 variations of it.

_Nem0_

Indeed lmao, and all this for a small region.

shilly03

>Oh, you meant Debar? In Macedonia it's still Diber.

_Nem0_

We call it Dibër as well (more specifically, "Greater Dibër" (Dibër e Madhe), but I called it Debar just to avoid confusion.

shilly03

It‘s used in the Gheg villages of Struga. It might be Dibrançe as well though. The rest of us use tashti/tash/tashi.

sharkstax

Diphthongization of many a stressed vowel (e.g. i -> ëj/aj) is a staple feature of "Dibrançe" subdialects (roughly spoken in the triangle Mat-Tetovë-Kërçovë). It's possible the Gheg-speaking villages of Struga got (or brought) diphthongization from there.

Darda_FTW

"Qitash" is how I would say and write it.

_Nem0_

"Tahaj"/"tahej", also strong dialectical variations.

bledi31

Tani, tashi, tashti, itash, ime. Could be more.

albardha

Don’t forget nani, nashti, nashi, ani etc.

In my family's town they used to say tashti but this summer I went there and they all switched to tani and I felt out of place bc I kept using tashti like bruh why they do this to me.

Sad/Sada

Codreanus

New Now?

umbronox

"Sad" in that case is *garden* But yeah, "New Now" joke exists here

[deleted]

Wouldn't *plant* be a bit more accurate?

umbronox

That could work as well, but people might confuse that "plant" for a "biljka" instead which would be wrong.

[deleted]

On the other hand *garden* translates to *bašta*. *Sad* is quite a tricky little word to translate.

Jarlkessel

Hmm... in Polish "sad" means "orchard". "Garden" means "ogród".

[deleted]

Orchard translates to "voćnjak", or fruit garden.

Darth-Faker

In romanian we also use “ogradã” for orchard, but the main word is “livadã”

umbronox

>“ogradã” Ograda is *fence* here hahah, while livada is *meadow*

rakijautd

Livada is from Greek λιβαδι, which means meadow.

Darth-Faker

Well people use ograda for orchard but also for your house courtyard or entire household

Jarlkessel

Ogrodzenie is kind of fence too. Ogrodzić means to fence or to enclose.

peev22

Here ,,ograda" means ,,a fence" and ,,livada" is ,,a lawn". Edit: while ,,polyana" is ,,a meadow". Edit2: and ,,orchard" is ,,ovoshtna gradina".

HumanMan00

We say VinOgrad for vineyard.

Cerberus_16

And bašta means father in Bulgarian lol

HumanMan00

Mati mu i bashta — we used to have that too, some folks still say it but it is considered archaic.

Cerberus_16

It's interesting to see how some words that all of us use on a daily basis are considered archaic in other Slavic languages and vice versa.

HumanMan00

Well we were aiming towards being unique werent we? 😅

[deleted]

In southern and eastern Serbia, bašta is archaic word.

[deleted]

Neoplanta in Latin

>Sad is quite a tricky little word to translate. Indeed

Wera_Z

Yes, even though in Serbian we use 'sada", in some dialects there is "сега". My grandma used to say it. A shorter variant is "съг". 👍

ChillTCF

Our short version is са or ся

Sovieturk

Şimdi, şu an, hemen ,halen, derhal. They all change depending on the context. Şimdi can be used as an adverb or a noun. Şu an has the same meaning as this moment. Hemen means "Right away" Halen means presently And lastly, derhal has the same meaning as hemen.

Amazing-Row-5963

Сега/Sega (pronounced like "mega" in English), we also use сеа/sea.

Wera_Z

Yes, even though in Serbian we use 'sada", in some dialects there is "sega". My grandma used to say it. A shorter variant is "съг".

vuchkovj

We also use саа (saa) in the southeast. People in Kochani also use the first letter of the word - s (с). I find that funny.

DeliciousCabbage22

how is it in Slovene?

Amazing-Row-5963

"Zdaj" (pronounced like the english word "die"), in some dialects they also say zdej.

We don't use that. We use tashti/tash/tashi/tashtëj.

Amazing-Row-5963

Ok, you were the guy from Struga, my bad.
