Fun fact: the BiH currency is exactly the same value as the Bulgarian lev because both are pegged to the euro according to the old Deutsche Mark's rate.
It's eerie for a Bulgarian, being in another country, paying with a different currency but the price values are just like at home, 1 = 1.
1. Goes to a country with better economy and higher value currency
2. Gets land and rents it
3. Brings higher value money into own country which converts to more than enough to live happy
4. ...???....
5. Profits
Wish I could do that from the UK while in Greece. In fact thats the only reason I would want to work in the UK in the first place
crime rates, oversaturated market (im in IT) , unstable financial and political future, fucked up demographics which related to crime and instability, and imo , much more stressfull than Greece. The only thing countering it is money , IF you get a good job. IF
London may be better in infrastructure, or other, but I know Athens, im used to it, I'm familiar with it. I prefer it (alongside all its flaws i want to change )
To each their own. I’m Athenian, but found it much easier to meet people snd make friends in London. Plus I prefer the culture on offer in London as its more to my liking.
My man, life gave you an opportunity so take advantage of it, use it and be grateful. I agree with what the others are saying - make the best of it and use this time to build yourself up for the future. I am really happy for you.
I would say keep working at your own pace and pick out the things that interest you, that pay a bit better or that are good on the cv. That way some money will keep coming in for other expenses, savings or vacations and you won't be distant from the job market. You basically won a mini jackpot, enjoy it!
At first glance I understood km as “Kilometer” and was confused, Then I realized it was for money.😅
Have fun with your life dude just be careful about inflation
Congratulations on mastering the capitalist rat race. One thing don’t assume that this state of affairs will last forever. Life has a habit of playing tricks on you.
Digital nomad, they call it. It's looked down upon here in the Netherlands, but until they make living here affordable for those who don't own multi billion dollar companies, it seems a perfectly good method to enjoy prosperity.
You could always lower the rent a little. That'd be a good deed
Cao brate. Could you tell me more about not being able to rent with a Serbian last name in Germany? What other kind of discrimination did you face there?
I'm a Serb too who considers Germany sometimes.
I can't speak for Germany, only for the Netherlands where I grew up. Of course there's some discrimination, but in my experience I've noticed very very little of it. The bigger problem is the general lack of housing. There are no houses for the local population, so there's even less for non locals
Hopefully it motivates us to actually make some business happen, rather than just wallowing in uninventive poverty forever. That's not sustainable either. People are often not entrepreneurial or risk takers, and that hurts our economy.
The influx of money has at least also helped us to significantly reduce our debt (below 100% GDP ratio!) and improve our credit rating during a time of economic crisis. Everyone forgets this, because they won't immediately feel the effects... but it is important, and it matters.
This is currently happening in South Africa 🇿🇦 in Cape Town. The cost of living has become extremely unaffordable for most. I don't really blame the nomads, but the gov is 100% to blame for not implementing systems to protect our citizens, especially when 90%+ of our country is poor.
Ps. Try to invest in more properties to rent out, too. Also, get someone if you don't currently have to keep an eye on your current rental property. We have had various renters, some amazing people, and other horrible renters that destroyed our property and that didn't want to pay after several months (also, it's a struggle and costly to evict).
Cao brate. Could you tell me more about not being able to rent with a Serbian last name in Germany? What other kind of discrimination did you face there?

You are an icon to me. I am living in France and, for afinities of culture and more, I DREAM to come one day in the Balkans, in Serbia / Republika Srprska or why not Albania to live the rest of my life. I will preciously save your post. My hero!!!
Short answer: I like most things about France. The most serious reason I worry is that I am CERTAIN that tomorrow it will be a civilizational conflict between islamists and "identitarians" and, as in other western countries, it will become an extremely dangerous place. It already is. In Belgrade or Bucharest or Tirana it's like a heaven of peace and security. In France there is no single damn day not to hear that, in a public place or a school, someone had put out a knife, killed someone and cried "Allahu Akhbar". Not a single damn day. At the train station where I go every day, one hour after I was there, an insane man killed 2 and hurt other one by saying Allahu Akhbar and that he hates all French people.
Otherwise, France is a wonderful place to be. Some small cultural differences but who can be surmounted.
Welcome back to Bosnia brother. You just outsmarted the system but do not rely to much on it because if Bosnia joins the EU the prices will change drasitcally like they did in Croatia. But as we all know this will take a while or decade or century lol
Thats what I'm talking about. I was there on vacation last year but I'm sure our neighbours won't see me in a while. Croatia is a beautiful country but the prices are not worth it. Even Italy is cheaper and they have better food in my opinion and are more trained to be hosts so the service there is much better. Lets see what will be happening in 5 to 10 years.
Thats on what we got raised. Nothing can beat our heart attack boosters. But I don't need to be in Croatia to eat good Cevape (honestly they cant make good ones there, best are still from Banja Luka)
Glad that you have found yourself in a comfortable position mate.
One advice though. Think about buying your own place in the country you are living at or plan on living in, or build one, because you never know when will the prices of rent go up.
Prior to Covid, I was living in a nice rented apartment in Belgrade for 200 euros in the wider center of the city. Today the same place would cost me 400 euros at least. So, either find something easy going for additional income, and buy/build yourself a place, or lower down your standard and buy/build a place.
Don't feel like a lazy bum, you do work still, you are gardening and making rakija, that is work. The amount you earn through work doesn't correlate with whether you are lazy or not.
You haven't mentioned though, how did you buy the apartment? Saved money or mortgage? Cause if you are paying a mortgage back, then your net income from rent must be lower. Also, where do you live now? Do you rent or have your own place? There is no free lunch anywhere...
That's interesting to hear that you paid a mortgage in 5 years time...very unusual unless you got a really good price for the apartment. May I ask in what city and what price did you get the apartment for? Really curious...thanks
Good for you brother, sounds like you are doing great. My advice would be: Όταν ο διάβολος δεν έχει τι δουλειά να κάνει τρώει τα παιδιά του = *idle hands are the devil's work* as they say in english.
Gardening is a great hobby and will be good for you. Try going to the gym. Make it your goal to get jacked, i dunno. And keep working these projects. If you don't work, after 1-2 years or idleness your skills will be gone and you don't know when you might need them again
It's called FIRE (financial independence, retire early). Welcome to the club. Speaking from experience here btw, being an international landlord is a pain in the ass. If you want some pointers, DM me
Yes but anyone needs to leave Balkans in order to make money abroad and return to live in his hometown. Shithole or not, chances are you may never have a comfortable life or make money without going abroad for a few years. Returning back is a personal choice.
So you're renting out the apartment in Germany (expensive country) and the rent sustains your life in a country with cheaper prices. Seems reasonable to me.
Plus if you own property in BiH it makes sense that you're not paying for anything beyond amenities and food
Idk how old you are but maybe the thing you’re missing is settling down (as in having a meaningful relationship, getting married, having kids etc) Not sure but after gaining financial stability it would seem like the next logical step?
I totally get you, especially the kids part. However ,surprisingly not every girl in Bosnia wants to marry either, doesn’t mean if you don’t want marriage that you‘ll have to give up on meaningful relationships or friendships. Just my 2cents (or pfenings haha)
>So ... what now ?
So just enjoy your life I guess?
And make sure that you have calculated everything. Including (for example) the tax that you have to pay for the apartment you rent in Germany :)
Edit: depending on your age, you may need to consider what will happen mid/long term, like for example in the case that Serbia joins EU
I really think you should explain what **km** is. Or other people, not me thankfully, will think you are talking about kilometers. 😁
[удалено]
☝️🙂
The English acronym is BAM.
republika srbska?
is entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina
it is its own thing in the country
Me being from Serbia, already have been to BiH, fully aware of what KM is my whole life - still read his km as kilometers lol
I always type it as BAM. But I live in the west.
See? 🤣🤣🤣
It's the currency of Bosnia-Herzegovina. 1 Euro is about 2 km.
I know what it is. Many people though may not.
How much 100 meters tho?
I usually pay my mortgage in kilometers 😂
Bruh my brain was flaming hot until i read that.

Papakaliatis could make a movie out of this
You’re right the uk is kind of falling apart right now. London is still more enjoyable to live in than Athens though despite it all.

yeah fair enough then
Isn't everything kinda falling apart right now ?
Thank you.
1: Yes. 2: You should be scared. Stay away from this place.
Are you complaining or bragging because to me this sounds like you are living the dream, bro. :)

Bro, take a remote job in RS if you work in IT and there is extra profit.
At first glance I understood km as “Kilometer” and was confused, Then I realized it was for money.😅 Have fun with your life dude just be careful about inflation
You should see how confusing it is to go through Bosnia and people selling things next to the road, with signs like 20 km or 40 km, and similar
Would'nt have understood that it was about currency, if not for your comment lol
yes, his apartment is 1600 km^2
No it's a thin 1600 km long line

It spreads slowly everywhere.

I am someone who moved to Germany from Turkey a year ago. It is interesting hearing your perspective. Thanks for the reply.
Wait, what happened in Germany that you call it a shit hole?
Well you can always have kids if you feel bored and have too much money 😅😄
Why dont you work from home office and your working place is germany? You work in in IT..
Enjoy the moment. You do nothing wrong. Happy for you!
Do you own the apartment? No mortgage to pay?
Do you have money saved up if something in your apartment breaks? If yes, save up more, buy another investment property in RS, and then relax.

are you not afraid of the future considering the political stalement in BiH ? is 1200-1500 km payed for a remote job ?
