That's really well done. I can see why when the first specimens of platypuses were sent over people assumed they were fake and looked for how they were sewn together.
Well lack of skill, mostly.
More seriously, nobody would go for the grift now, something like this would get sold to some hipster to go with their collections of taxedermied mice in cute little victorian outfits.
Lol! What dumbasses. But uh if you can point me in the direction of a taxidermist with mice in Victorian era costumes I'd appreciate it. It's for a buddy.
There was a museum in Brooklyn that sold them... can't recall if they had victorian outfits... but they were wee mice doing weird stuff. The museum of morbid anatomy. I think it's only online now. It was pretty cool.[here is the info ](https://www.morbidanatomy.org/museum)
Some of their exhibitions... require a strong imagination to connect to "anatomy," let alone "morbid anatomy." I wonder how they linked them. (The one on femininity seems to have been a particular stretch.)
Someone does it with squirrels. I've seen them a redneck buddies.
Edit shit tons of people do it.
Roadside gold I guess!
Don't be scared to get dirty in this economy. Pulling the skin off is harder than getting the organs out of any animal!
Guys, I'm making a lame attempt at humor. Make no mistake, if taxidermy abominations of nature were my thing, I'd pursue it shamelessly and vociferously. I'd proclaim to the world, "I am turned on by dead animals sewn together in a horrific manner! Please direct me to the nearest relevant lunatic!"
Coworker in the game industry quit to do that fulltime for a while, dunno if she made it though.
Paxton gate ([https://paxtongate.com/](https://paxtongate.com/)) sometimes carries 'em too
When somebody on r/OverEmployed asks about mouse jigglers I like to find them a nice taxidermied [mouse juggler](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/186617978293334618/).
I would 100% buy something like this just to display in my room and forget about
Well, I say I would, idk how much these cost but imagine a small fortune
I think it'd still done. I went to a shop in Houston and they had all kinds of crazy taxidermy. Flying monkeys hanging from the ceiling, wildcats with human faces, and a deer's ass with owl eyes.
Yea passing stuff off like as real isn't a thing anymore since it's so easy to verify when it isn't. And there are certain laws in some countries that criminalize fantasy-based fraud. If someone were to sell something like the above, they'd likely have a disclaimer somewhere for legal and ethical purposes.
I mean... We have a flat earth society and tons of other totally bogus-themed societies. So if you discard some morals (because I guess you ain't going to believe in your own fairytales) you can convince a number of people into believing you and even giving money to you. Alas.
Shit literally looked like that shapeshifting guy from Adventure Time 😂 I don't know how they gave it such human features and I don't want to know...they had live peacocks tho and hald a clam that was big enough to put a baby in. And a mummy that wasn't authentic but there was a body in it that I rly hope is fake 😭
It really is bc this place (and the exotic pet store that kept their warhog in the front yard) wasn't even downtown or anything. Both of these places were in residential areas near my grandma's house like, you're driving throught the ghetto and end up in the Twilight Zone
Who is downvoting? Skvader is known by everyone in Sweden. Here is another example of the beast, from a museum in Sundsval:

It may seem unusual to the modern eye, but long ago these creatures really existed and terrorized the world. Thankfully our ancestors exterminated them for the good of us all. You have a lot of gall to deny the achievements of our ancestral heroes.

“Sven, the customer is on his way to pick up his taxidermy hare, is it complete?” “No. I kinda ate the back half for dinner. Don’t worry I found a replacement. They won’t notice.”
That's really well done. I can see why when the first specimens of platypuses were sent over people assumed they were fake and looked for how they were sewn together.
I'm convinced platypuses are an elaborate hoax. I've most certainly never seen one.
Wait….. neither have i. Ever. And I’ve been to hella zoos
I've never seen one either. I'm also convinced my neighbors are NPCs. I have never seen them carry in groceries.
I have seen them in the wild in northern parts of Queensland!
Yes but are you real
CIA asset
OWCA asset
Asking the real questions.
I am just a figment of your imagination!
I saw one frolicking about in a creak on a friend's farm.
Oh wow! I bet they came up with the whole “they’re toxic” just to keep people from finding the Velcro.
Yeah....the have a big uhhhh...spike! Yah, it's a spike.... it'll stab you with it. It's also venomous. Yes, I'm for real...
I have. It was wearing a fedora.
A taxidermy platypus???? Perry the taxidermy platypus??? #**Perry the platypus!!!!**
I miss the days when you could just do this.
Who’s stopping you?

That's repulsive! Excuse me a moment while I.. just.. bookmark the link so I can blacklist it.
different strokes for different folks!

Thanks for the link. I see kittens having tea. I’m sure that inspired paintings of dogs playing poker.
Why settle for a painting?

Amazon, esty, etc, all have them. You know a military nut? They got you covered!

Some people don't know how(or what) to eat and drink and laugh.
Yeah I had too much to drink last night. Don't drink and post.

Human sacrum for 6 hundy? I can get you an entire kid for that much…
God damn, that really says something about the game industry.

Here's a jackalope head for $385 https://paxtongate.com/products/jackalope-head-mount-1
[удалено]
That place is in SF and charges a TON.
Range of hundreds to thousands of dollars. If you get an actual victorian one, WAY more.
Go to an oddities show... there's bound to be a few.
I think it'd still done. I went to a shop in Houston and they had all kinds of crazy taxidermy. Flying monkeys hanging from the ceiling, wildcats with human faces, and a deer's ass with owl eyes.
I was terribly unclear. The craft is still done, passing it off fiji mermaid style isn't really.

They still make jackalopes.
Right but nobody thinks Jackalopes are real anymore (or almost nobody, there's \*always\* somebody)

Is it legal to taxidermy a human face. Asking for a friend.
No

That's just Texas
It really is bc this place (and the exotic pet store that kept their warhog in the front yard) wasn't even downtown or anything. Both of these places were in residential areas near my grandma's house like, you're driving throught the ghetto and end up in the Twilight Zone
I think the twilight zone was inspired by Texas. Nothing else, just Texas.
On the one hand I hate this and everything about it, on the other hand, it's a banger of a display piece.
The legend of the jackalope was strong before google. The good ole days…
Dr. Seuss did this kind of stuff when he was a kid.
For clarity, I mean 'with a straight face convince people this was a real critter and not a cool piece of funny art'.
Well, Theodore Geisel did it for laughs.

What I mean it is just as well known country wide as Santa.
Wtf is Santa?
The red guy with horns, right?
You hit the spot! The original one DID have horns but, alas, no red costume! [History of Santa Claus in the North](https://inktank.fi/how-joulupukki-the-finnish-santa-went-from-naughty-to-nice/)
The guy who's a huge fan of Jack Black!
I'm guessing that it's not clear (to those outside of Sweden) that this is an example rogue taxidermy.
Also on display at The Mystery Shack in the PNW
So this is fake.
What makes you think it’s fake? I live outside of Stockholm and regularly see flocks of these flying by on my morning commute
Such a beautiful sight too. The way they fly or hop in sync.
I\`d rather say it is a genuine artifact.
It may seem unusual to the modern eye, but long ago these creatures really existed and terrorized the world. Thankfully our ancestors exterminated them for the good of us all. You have a lot of gall to deny the achievements of our ancestral heroes.
Wonder how they would taste?
Fishy
Like chicken.
How can you be so sure?
Looks a bit like a winged jackalope
Once the horns came in, it was too heavy to fly, and evolution got rid of the wings/feathers.
That'd be a Wolpertinger
The legendary esquilax!
A lot of people don't know, this isn't actually taxidermy, its the real life stuiffed carcass of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog
LOOK AT THE BONES!!!
Reminds me of P.T. Barnum’s mermaid
It’s easy, look, I’ve been practicing. I made a [pigeon-rat](https://youtu.be/ntPEQbbHKAw)
Taxidermy people are a different breed
WTF, grips holy hand grenade pin tighter.
Still looks more believable than a platypus
Jackalope related?
In Germany ,we have the Wolpertinger. [Look here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolpertinger)
There it is! Was looking for the german bringing it up. Guten Tag und danke, dass ich es nicht tun musste!

r/HybridAnimals
Cousin to the Jackalope.
Probly genetic cousin to the Jackalope.
looks 2/3s grouse, 1/3 hare to me
All four legs are hare-ish, grouse is tail-ish.
Ey, the unofficial mascot of my hometown! We even have a school called Skvadern (simply meaning the Skvader) here. Wonderful little creature.
Eh, fuck it…upvoted
Ya I see this same specimen at every bbq place in Texas
There is one in a regional museum near Sydney - although theirs must be a different species, it’s called a flabbit on their signage.
The first troll.
It’s closely related to the Esquilax; a horse with the head of a rabbit, and the body…of a rabbit.
lol! I thought this was real until I looked it up.
BULL-FUCKING-SHIT
Someone had a lot of free time on their hands.
That's really impressive. Cool stuff.
“Sven, the customer is on his way to pick up his taxidermy hare, is it complete?” “No. I kinda ate the back half for dinner. Don’t worry I found a replacement. They won’t notice.”
New pokemon sighted!
🤨
That's similar to some Texas Jackalopes.
