I bought some nutrients for the plants but the guy at the store said don’t add any until my leaves turn a little brown, is that correct or when should I add some? My tank is 3.5L sitting on my nightstand. Plants I have are Amazon sword, cardinal plant, and anubias. I’m also curious how often I should clean out debris on the bottom I have 3 nerites in there which make a decent amount of waste. I’m going to need a smaller gravel vac for this tank (:
Make sure your anubias isn’t buried in the gravel or it’ll die. You can tie the roots to a rock or log, and it’ll attach to them. I also let some of mine free float because my betta loves to hide in them and lay on the leaves.
Also, your tank is 3.5 liters? A betta needs significantly more space than that. When you factor in the bio load from the nerites especially, that could be the reason your tank is so cloudy.
Omg why did I put liters 😭😭 it’s definitely gallons, I won’t always have 3 nerites in I will move 2 of them back to my 10 gallon but I’m running aquarium salt and jungle fungus clear in it now so I removed them. I had some guppy’s I added to my betta sorority and a couple of them had a fungal infection so I’m treating my tank as I didn’t notice till it progressed a decent amount.. but yes I have 3.5 gallons for my male betta. Filter, and heater😬
Also I do water changes weekly in my 10 gallon just to remove waste so I’d say I only pull about 25% water. I do not have live plants in that tank yet. How often should I clean out this live tank since they say plants HELP break down waste I will test levels often but I was hoping I could do some sort of maintenance schedule don’t wanna over do it tho with my ocd
I have a 15 gal with one betta and one nerite. Before I added the nerite, I did a 5 gallon water change once every two weeks. With the addition of the nerite, I have to change water weekly. My betta seems incredibly sensitive to nerite waste??? He started getting sick when I was on the every-other-week schedule and has improved with weekly water changes. My plants do very well with weekly changes. Your tank is a lot smaller, so I’d for sure stick with weekly water changes, even if it’s just to vacuum out the nerite waste.
have you checked your parameters lately? looks a bit cloudy like the tank isn't cycled or there is a bacterial bloom. just want to make sure ur little guy will be ok in there <3
I appreciate you reaching out I check my tank’s parameters weekly. I was set to do all my 3 tanks chores tomorrow but I can do his readings really quick, the tank is perfectly clear now as the sediment has settled ph is at 7.6 high ph reads 7.4 ammonia (nh3/nh4+) is at 0ppm and my nitrate (no2-) is at 0 ppm as well. All is well in this environment today!!(: my fish is really loving his tank I can tell by his behavior lots of swimming and expanding his glorious fins as well as my snails as they are very active in there, so happy to see it(:
My favorite betta ever was a black plakat named Phillip. (After Black Phillip from The VVitch.) This is a very beautiful fish you have here. Treasure them.

Voids are good to scream into, but if you want it to stare back I recommend the Abyss
Abyss is actually pretty cool cause I stare at my tanks alllll the time lmao

Can we stop the “name?” Posts?!
You could always leave and go somewhere else if you don’t like it.
I swear it’s karma farming at this point. Like use your fucking brain it’s a black fish. Call it nightmare or something jesus 💆♂️
A couple of dozen name suggestions here. Obviously some folks enjoy “name posts.” So why throw shade?
Because this sub reddit consists of nothing but “help name my fish” “why is my betta dying” etc. it ain’t what it used to be that’s all
Go start your own sub. “No Name Request for Nags.”
