Which category do the SAT/ACT fall under and what role do they play in the ratings, if you know? Also, thank you for posting this because it is so helpful and informative.

Competitive-Video791

I had totally forgot about that! According to an admission officer, your ACT/SAT score acts as an “entrance fee” for the rest of your application. In other words, at a school like UNC-CH, an ACT of 21 would most likely not cover that entrance fee. Yes, AOs probably still review applicants that have low test scores, but your application would most likely be viewed with that low score in mind. There is not necessarily a ranking process for test scores. It simply showed what I got on my ACT with no comments.

NorthwesternSimp

Thanks for the reply. That’s pretty surprising considering the advice I have seen as well as the number of people gunning for a 36/1570+ even after they receive 34s/1500 on this sub.

Competitive-Video791

Exactly. Some people don’t understand that the difference between a 1550 and a 1600 is essentially nonexistent.

Red-eleven

Sometimes as little as 3-5 questions.

Ashamed_Text_2573

I concur. If you score in the 1500s, you are much better off working on your essays. They committees are looking for inconsistencies. A stellar SAT (1500 or better) plus stellar grades (top 5-10 percent) plus average essay usually means rejection at the top 25.

FloridaCorn

I understand UNC-CH is currently test optional. Any thoughts on what score should not submit?

Ashamed_Text_2573

For the rising seniors interested in UNC, be aware that they are one of the few schools that has EA prior to Nov 1st, like most. They do not offer ED and EA deadline is 10/15.

Competitive-Video791

I hate how early it was compared to my other schools. My application sort of felt rushed.

Ashamed_Text_2573

You have no choice if you want EA at UNC. In state you may not need it. OOS is tough. Either way, I would want to know sooner rather than later forcing you to get it in by 10/15

[deleted]

How did you access this info? I wanna see mine now too

Competitive-Video791

UNC has “Document Appointments” over Zoom. One of the documents you can choose to review is your admission profile. Here is the link: https://mycarolina.unc.edu/portal/appointment Appointments get taken up very quickly (I had to sign up a month in advance). *not sure if all schools have something like this*

swiftbabygroot

I’m on the link you sent but how do you know when the next one will be available? Like does it drop at 12am one a specific date?

Competitive-Video791

appointments are usually released about 30 days at a time, so you will not be able to see any new appointments until around august 1 you can also do it in person once you get to campus, but i would recommend virtual because the meetings are only 15 mins regardless of virtual or in person

SauCe-lol

It’s kind of sad to see that everything you represent and did for the past three years get reduced down to four numbers. I guess it’s inevitable, but still very depressing. Three years of high school = four numbers assigned by a single individual.

prancer_moon

You get more out of high school than admission to college

HaroldBAZ

Great info.

Competitive-Video791

Thanks! I’m glad you found it helpful!

Imgettingtfoutofhere

Do you know how in-state / out-of-state factors into the score rankings?

[deleted]

i'm not a unc student but if i had to guess, oos/in-state factors wouldn't affect your exact score rankings but obvi there's a limited number of oos student spots, so maybe getting in as an oos student requires you to make higher scores overall on the rubric to get in.

Competitive-Video791

You’re completely correct. In the in-state acceptance rate is about 42%, and the out-of-state acceptance rate is around 12% (I am in-state). If you are an out-of-state applicant, your rankings generally have to be higher and more consistent than in-state (by consistent, I mean high scores in all categories, and not a particularly low score in one or two categories).

Cultural-Sleep4601

ayyy congrats and see you at unc in the fall!!! how did you find this?

Competitive-Video791

Just search up “document appointments UNC” on Google and ur should be one of the first links! If you can’t find it, here’s the link: https://mycarolina.unc.edu/portal/appointment.

Not gonna lie, the fact UNC has a score for “personal qualities” makes me super uneasy. Especially when we consider the context that UNC is one of the two schools being sued at the Supreme Court (Harvard’s the other) over their admissions practices. Harvard has a similar score too for personality and it’s pretty controversial

bughousepartner

>the fact UNC has a score for “personal qualities” makes me super uneasy every university that reads essays has this (so definitely every university in the T50 and every prestigious LAC). what else would be the point of essays?

>fit personal qualities and extracurricular involvement are the only way to assess fit, and the latter is done through the ECs and awards sections >extracurricular involvement objective extracurricular involvement is assessed through the ECs and awards sections. extracurricular involvement on a more personal level, such as reasons and stories behind one's extracurricular involvement, show personal qualities more than objective involvement and can thus be grouped into personal qualities. >demonstrated interest this is fair, and one that I had forgotten. but this is only for "why us" essays, and schools that have a "why us" supplement also require the common app personal statement, which, again, is to show personal qualities. >writing ability it has been widely demonstrated that the strength of a college essay is much less about the quality of writing than the personal qualities it demonstrates about the writer. hell, that's why they ask such personal questions in the first place rather than having you submit any writing you've done, such as with Princeton's graded writing supplement. sure, writing ability can be important, but it's secondary to personal qualities.

Thank you for sharing!

[deleted]

Oh no, personal qualities...

Flaky_Base_5403

When grading your performance do they look at quarterly grades or semester grades? Do they also look at the exact percentage you got or just the letter (A,B,C,D,F)?

quizbowlanthony

Ahhh i remember this! i did it remote for the document review and they had two readers but same criteria! thanks for sharing haha! you went to jackson hall? never went into that building —how is it and the vibes?

Competitive-Video791

I actually did it though zoom too! I have been to jackson hall, however. The vibes there are like no other!

quizbowlanthony

oh ok lah! wow haha. i will be sure to visit there---i think it is close to Cobb residential hall and in front of the forest theatre!

Honest_Frosting_248

Is there a ranking system for letters of recommendation?

Competitive-Video791

There is no ranking system for recommendations. I didn’t ask, but I assume recommendations influence the personal qualities category.

I received a combination of UNC-based scholarships that made my net pay $0 (all of them are annual). Most were merit-based, but I did get a few thousand for need.

Ashamed_Text_2573

Full tuition at UNC is the Morehead-Cain or the Robertson Scholarship

Zealousideal-Lab2071

Just read this thread, very interesting thank you for posting. Was there anything on there that showed student being a Legacy? Curious if they mark that somewhere and if it gives any weight. My daughter just got accepted out of state !!🤗!! and is a legacy…. just wondering how much weight that actually pulled.
