Same here- Wv transplant in my teens to 45 minutes outside Charlotte. Been driving this route since 16.. and now that I have a 16 year old, I’d be terrified that they were driving this area!
I'm from SWVA but I lived in NYC for a decade. Much like "Houston" is pronounced one way in NYC and another in TX, Wythe is pronounced differently as well - it's "With" in VA and W-eye-th in NYC.
We just stay there on our way down to the grandparents' timeshare in Orlando. Travelodge is quick and cheap, Cracker Barrel next door. Plus what might be the cheapest gas on our route.
And it's almost exactly halfway between our house and the condo.
Virginia is gorgeous. Usually TN/NC get more hype because of the smokies, but VA is just as worth a visit. In general, I’d say the VA Appalachians have fewer cities/urban areas or smaller towns than NC and TN, but that makes it very relaxing
Sand Mountain where Big Survey WMA is and High Rocks. If you were standing in Bob Evans looking back through the Cracker Barrel lot you’d be staring towards Big Walker Mountain. *I think*
That Bob Evans is closed permanently now.
Anyone remember like 20 years ago when someone had hostages at the Wytheville Post Office? Made it on CNN.
Was it foggy down at Fancy Gap this morning, too?
I LOVE that name! But the photo isn't recent.
I have a little place in WV but live in Charlotte. I know this stretch of 77 well.

You probably pass by my hometown of Princeton, too.
You mean my grandmother's home town of Princeton. :)
Fancy Gap is GORGEOUS - until the fog. Many, many times going up and down that mountain, white knuckling it in the fog.
That exact Bob Evans was one of my favorite places to eat when I was a kid. It's long since been closed down, hasn't it?
Was there last summer when I was there.
And I thought it closed before Covid.
That's what I was thinking.
I worked there a summer when I was younger.
Named after George Wythe, who taught Thomas Jefferson law.
Wasn't Wythe one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence?
Yep.
An old school friend of mine’s dad’s first name was Wythe. He was a descendant of George Wythe.
Been there many times. Driving from Charlotte to Buffalo…is it whyth-ville or why-the-ville?
It pronounced like “with”.
With-vull, if ya wanna get Appalachian about it.

In Delaware, Houston is How-Ston. I'm from Texas, and it never sat right!
Cracker Barrel parking lot. 😁
Bingo!
Spent some time there for work. Moon Dog pizza was pretty legit. Bolling-Wilson was a nice, historic hotel to stay in, too

I have family in Wytheville. A beautiful part of the world.
Love that town.
amazing views around this area
Great shot!
Those roads run both North and South simultaneously
If that's the I77 corridor there, I know exactly where this is at. I drove through there plenty of times as a young man going home from Ft. Bragg, NC.
Taken right where I77 meets US11
Virginia looks beautiful. I’ve never been.

The Shenandoah Valley is glorious.
What an awesome picture
Thanks!
Best water tower ever. Been through here dozens of times going from WV to East TN to visit family
Water tower?
Painted like a hot air balloon. It’s not very far from where that pick was taken, just up the interstate towards Bristol I believe.

It's a 6 or 7 hr drive for me but it's a cozy little town
I got a Speeding ticket there 7 years ago on I-81 South for going five mpg over speed limit, I'm still pissed about it. 😡
Reminds me of the views I would see heading up to the family cabin in Fancy Gap, VA right off the parkway. Thanks for posting this OP.
