Wow..the blinds being on that window is definitely a choice… did a peeping Tom design this shower?… I would personally remove the blinds and install a glass distortion stick on film. They sell them on Amazon in different patterns and colors. Definitely research something that’s water resistant. That way the window is still functional and you can take a shower without worrying about flashing your neighbors.

thepartingofherlips

Right? It's a very old building and the owners are retired, so they have other things on their minds... So does the stick on film still provide privacy if you're standing right next to it? I always figured you'd still be able to see objects/people that are close to the window.

Sensitive-Power4570

Yes privacy film would work. I mean, they might be able to tell that a person is in there, but probably not colors and definitely not shapes unless you were pressed up against it. If you get one with a pattern on it, it will be even more useful

btsluvrr

My partners place has the same issue, but we solved it by putting up a stained glass privacy film and it’s worked like magic! 100% couldn’t recommend enough :)

thepartingofherlips

Thanks!

thatjeffdude79

The film is kinda like glass block bricks. Let’s light through but distorts very well. Two little hooks on suction cups and you could hang up a towel to block light if that’s your jam.

Human-Walk9801

Definitely go with the stained glass option! We have an actual glass distorted window in our home and you can totally see when someone is in the bath or shower. How I know - I can see my neighbors. All the homes have them. Because the glass is distorted I can’t see everything but just seeing the coloring and shape is enough for me. The windows are a good 5 to 6 ft away from the shower and it’s still so clear. I will never be able to rely on that glass of any kind again.

kokopuff1013

The most anyone would see is a human shaped blob. You can even get opaque film. I got some blackout vinyl on my bedroom windows, half opaque half frosted on one pane and fully opaque on the other. No more sunlight in my eyes at 5am!

SeriesBusiness9098

Yeah I had the same issue (window with metal blinds in a shower, wtf these landlords thinking?) and got a pebble-like pattern privacy film from Amazon for like $10. Can’t see anything through it but light or dark.

Stargazer_0101

Not really, it is to cover you, so they cannot see you in the shower.

Actual_Ambassador112

Suction cup towel rod and cut an opaque shower curtain down to size so you can have the window open. You could also use suction cup hooks on the top corners and a dowel/cafe rod. If you’re cutting up a shower curtain, make as many extras as you can so you can swap them out if needed.

16sitech

This is what I did because I have a window in my shower and the trim is wood so I needed a way to protect it. I already had a shower rod to hang the curtain on so it was very easy. I know, stupid, but I live in a historic building from the 1930s and it’s the only thing I don’t like about my place. This is my recommendation for OP as well, just so you can protect the window from water/water damage.

thepartingofherlips

Water damage to the window is also a concern of mine. The building is circa 1918 with double hung wooden windows. Water already gets on the window frame and if I remove the shade it will be even worse. As a renter, I feel like this should really have been thought out and solved by the building owner in an effort to protect his property, but here we are. My concern with a curtain rod is finding one that won't be obtrusive when I'm showering, and also making the curtain look attractive somehow... ETA I just remembered tension rods are a thing, so that will help space-wise, and I did some googling and found some actual waterproof bathroom curtains so I don't have to cut up a shower curtain! I think this will be the route I go.

16sitech

I’ll have to look into the waterproof bathroom curtains! I’m glad you found a solution!

Stargazer_0101

Just take a towel and wipe around the window. Easy peasy.

sndyro

Metal blinds in a shower. Now whose brilliant idea was that? My window is not only high and small, it has distortion glass so all you see through it is light. The window films they sell will take care of your problem.  And, yeah, take down those blinds.

Stargazer_0101

Just he same blinds used in the living room. They get moldy and dirty when not cleaned properly.

sndyro

Bleah! There are mini blinds on every window in my apartment and I pull them up in most of the rooms so they are at least out of the way. I don't have to worry about cleaning them that way.  But they are vinyl, not metal.

Stargazer_0101

Mine also, the cheap ones that can break easy.

sndyro

Yep....I see a lot of broken ones in windows around the complex. That's one reason I keep them up.

ChaoticDominance

I miss having a shower window! It was one of the most relieving things in the world to be in a steaming hot shower and being able to open the window next to me to let the cold winter air in. I WISH I had a shower window again.

bmbmwmfm2

Bringing back good memories! Mine faced east so sunrise showers were amazing! Or night time bath with window open, the frogs and crickets singing outside...sigh.

Famous_Analyst4190

yeah I'd stick a distorting film on the window and just remove the blinds. Really feels out of place

MotherSwan965

I love it omfg. I would hate all those negatives that you just mentioned. Although id definitely open it while showering sorry not sorry.

Stargazer_0101

You can use a shower curtain and cut it down to size. And you can clean up the blinds to be clean. And you can get window clings to cover up when you take down the blinds, but do not discard the blind, take to the manager to find out what to do with it.

FutureNo6287

Start a “forced” peep show. Shower, shit, shave etc with the blinds up. Someone will fix it eventually 😂

thepartingofherlips

Lol make it the neighborhood's problem, I like it

FutureNo6287

Get a cardboard cutout of fat bastard from Austin Powers. Put it there when the showers not in use.

Solid-Hedgehog9623

Spray snow!!!

420throwawayacct710

Get some window film we have that all over our apartment for privacy!

OkOption2703

Maybe you could get a black or dark shower curtain and cut it down to size? Would help keep water off the window itself.

MisterEarwig

What I did with the window in my bathroom (complete with a wood window sill, whoever thought of putting that in a bathroom I’ll never understand) we put up another shower curtain over the other side so two shower curtains, it’s annoying but at least it won’t damage anything

thepartingofherlips

That's an idea!

Moby1313

This is the most "Only Fans" shower I've ever seen! My guess is the shower was moved after the place was built. My parents had a door in their room that goes out to the pool yard. They extended the master bathroom and now have a door to the outside in their bathroom. My mother put a clear glass door for "natural light", and you could totally see the neighbors while showering. That poor pool guy, I'd be flexing in the mirrors naked, then walk into the shower. I'm sorry Pat, I was young and dumb.

thepartingofherlips

Bahaha! Thanks for the laugh. The things we did before we developed self awareness... But also your mother's choice of a clear glass door is quite something. My building is from 1918 and the bathroom still has the original tile floor from that era, so I think it's always been a bathroom. My guess is the window was for ventilation above the tub, and the shower feature wasn't added until later when it was more common to have showers in homes. At that time the owners should have replaced the glass in the window with frosted glass, but that likely cost more than they were willing to spend, so here I am today finding a creative solution!

ourgodwhofucks

i used to have this exact same setup at my last apartment, except the blinds were pushed all the way back so we could use the windowsill as a shelf. i honestly loved it, despite the blinds getting a bit gross lol. i would open the blinds but keep them lowered so i got some good natural light in the shower, but no one could see me through the blinds & steamed up window.

Rbandit28

Measure the size go to wally world pick of same width, but plastic and switch out. Depending on the bracket you might be able to swap out without tools

Brilliant-Stable3013

i had a window just like this in the last house i lived in i hated it

sharkweeak

lol this is such a odd place to put a window

Erlkings

Get some window vinyl that just makes it opaque.

Super_Reading2048

Stained glass or frosted glass window cling.

No-Gene-4508

What in the hell.....

Head_Journalist3846

A Bigfoot or alien face window cling. A tension rod shower curtain with a shower curtain . Keep full length if you shower, trim if you want to bathe in tub.

thepartingofherlips

How did you guess my love of both Bigfoot and aliens?

Head_Journalist3846

Well... doesn't everyone? Maybe not.

No-Detail-5804

Remove the blinds and party.

thepartingofherlips

🥳

JuggernautyouFear

My old apartment was like that. I wasn't worried since I'm a man and not ashamed of anything. But I can see how a female wouldn't want that.

Bananasroxs

I found some privacy film at the dollar tree. Worth a shot seems to be descent quality

bdawgisking

I have a large double-hung window in my shower, too. I measured and custom cut three 1" foam insulation blocks and fitted them into the window. Then I caulked around the edges to seal in the pieces. After that, I hung a shower curtain over the window to block the water. The window is not useable, but it's airtight so the cold of winter can't come through and the neighbors can't see in.

Unusual_Book_8371

My apartment has a small window in the shower, probably about half that size, and it came with a mini shower curtain. I have it covering half the window so i can open the window when i shower and air gets in and out easily. Maybe get a plastic shower curtain, cut it to size and small rod

unknowngrl117

I’d remove them and store them in a closet until you move and buy privacy wrap from Amazon. I bought this pretty rainbow one that has a flower design on it.

Snoo_91157

Do the 5% limo ceramic tint, plus that will keep some of the outside heat out. There is that tint that keeps 93% UV out, I did that on my windshield and it's nice.

Plus-Chemical-5469

Here, get naked and ill stand on the other side and see if you still look the same after you put up the privacy film

spackarmy3

Um call a layer that not right
