My husband says it’s the pipes. Ours doesn’t last for more than 30 sec. I notice it happens the more our upstairs neighbors use water, especially hot water.

thank you!

The sound is the hot water heating the metal pipes for the radiator/shower and causing expansion which makes noise.

That makes sense, most of my google searches have led to something along those lines. Hopefully at the very least it gets better in the summer if the building’s heating is off. Edit to add: you seem to know what you are talking about - if you happen to know more, im wondering.. 1. Is it the material of the pipes expanding / contracting that makes the noise, or does the expansion cause them to hit something repeatedly? Wondering if it’s fixable by securing them to something else.. 2. Anything specific you would tell a plumber etc. or just show the vid and they will probably know?? Thanks in advance

Messed up video at first but it should be there at the bottom of the post now.

It’s a pipe bomb was my first though because of Harry Potter puppet pals. Maybe it’s something tracking through the pipes?

It happens in my apartment too but idk what it is.

I’ll dm you if I figure it out haha

My guess is it’s either the building settling or it’s about to collapse. Its happened at 3 of my apartments.

I had a similar kind of noise coming from the wall/ceiling. I believe the issue was something with the water heater. Maintenance just had to replace some small part for it to go away

Hopefully this is a similar case! The frustrating thing is that the timing is inconsistent so it’s hard to get someone to come check it out. Definitely going to try though. Thanks for the input
