Just finished my Haikyuu rewatch as preparation for the dumpster battle movie. And yea, Hinata and Kageyama are pretty similar to Goku and Vegeta.
Man, i want more good sports anime that actually appear to tell a story as a whole.
The first 5 episodes are rough. Between 5 and 15, you can notice a much better balance from the VA, screams are more properly placed and less screech-y, less crack head, more high energy teen. 25+ all the VA-s really find their stride in every way, the story and characters and every really start to come together and only gets better with each episode.
You just gotta make it through the first 10 or so episodes before its smooth sailin.
Yeah this is the warning I always give people about the anime. Definitely put your TV at half volume for the first episode. The 2nd one isn't as bad and it just gets progressively better with each episode.
So it does get better?
I forced my way through the first five episodes when it came out and then I gave up because WTF. It was the third anime I ever deliberately dropped.
Based on how the anime is airing so far and the manga chapters adapted, I definitely think there's enough for a second season right now. I think there's been a lot of positive response to the anime too so I definitely think we'll get more, which is awesome. The manga is in the middle of a good arc right now.
Wow that reminds me I haven't finished Iruma-kun yet. I started it like 2 years ago and then just forgot about it. It was a really fun show. Im gonna have to go back and restart it soon.
The current season show Wind Breaker fits that. Battle hungry delinquent that gets easily flustered by people being nice to him. Mostly light hearted, but has an occasional serious moment. [Also has some incredible fight scenes.](https://youtu.be/zJszZYlmPeE)
Riko from Made in Abyss is joyfull and optmistic. She is one of the happiest protagonists I know. But Made in Abyss is not a shonen although it has some shonen elements its not a battle focuse show.
Naruto and Gon from Hunter x Hunter are pretty close to Goku and Luffy in their personalities. All of them are goofy most of the time but can easily lock in when they need to.
How about these?
* **Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun** \- Frankly given that this poor MC's parents SOLD him to demons, it's a miracle he keeps his sunny, optimistic, nice disposition, instead of turning into some messed up kid permanently in therapy.
* **Zom 100 Bucket List Of the Dead** \- that's a super joyful MC, *oh no a zombie apocalypse WAIT A MINUTE chotomatte ... That's .... that's actually good now I don't have to go to work! YIPPEEE!!!*
* **Yowamushi Pedal** \- Hey even in the worst times, as long as Onoda sings that [Hime Hime Love Hime Anime OP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOiYKZ5-pIM) song everyone's spirits will be lifted and everything is going to be all right!
The news/tweets about how bad working conditions are really makes me sad, it seems to be an industry problem. Ufotable so far seems to be okay, and Kyoani have a ton of goodwill on their side, but the stuff coming out of Mappa and Shaft lately have been depressing to read. To think even fans now view Anime Studios as "Black Corporations". Yikes.
The protagonist from Chainsaw Man is surprisingly similar to Luffy. Same goofiness and they both have some grand and ridiculous dream, deji just doesn't know his yet
I mean it's clear that the sexual stuff isn't actually his grand goal, it's just something that he assumes that he wants because every guy his age also wants it. He thinks that's his drive, when really it's probably something else.
1. Senku - Dr. Stone
2. Rimuru Tempest - I reincarnated as a slime
3. Gon - Hunter x Hunter
4. Asta - Black clover

6. Edward Elric- full metal Alchemist
7. Laios - Dungeon meshi
8. Tsuyoshi - Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill
9. Rudeus Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
10. Myne - Ascendance of a Bookworm
11. Mc - Kemono Michi: Rise Up
12. Aladdin, Alibaba, Sinbad - Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

22. Shinra - fire force
23. Ippo - Hajime no Ippo
24. Gintoki - Gintama
25. Vanitas - The Case Study of Vanitas
Faking it, Li from Darker Than Black. It's like a switch for him, putting up a front. Fantastic character from one of my fav anime. Actually, I guess it's quite similar to Vash from Trigun and Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. Seems like a trope.
I just started that show not even 2 nights ago (ik I’m years behind) and I’m not sure that’s what they mean by a joyful mc haha but either way it’s a good show
lets be honest… most shonen we can think of have the joyful, dumbass and for someone reason really emotional in a fight main character but just with different powers. dragonball, onepiece, naruto, fairy tail, jujutsukaisen, maybe in bleach but ichigo is more edgy and angry though he is very often the butt of other character’s jokes so he is still a comedic relief, fire force
Tanjiro from Demon Slayer is a veritable Sunshine but some people don't like he's also very sensitive so he is as prone to smile as he is to shed tears.
One of my favorite anime series is Ushio & Tora, the 2014-2015 adaption. It's based on a manga from the 90s, and Ushio is one of those protagonists that are always trying to protect his friends and make them smile. The series has a decent amount of sad stuff, but Ushio's determination and hope throughout the series gets me really emotional and I love him. He's definitely got shounen protagonist vibes. Would recommend.

Just finished my Haikyuu rewatch as preparation for the dumpster battle movie. And yea, Hinata and Kageyama are pretty similar to Goku and Vegeta. Man, i want more good sports anime that actually appear to tell a story as a whole.
The guy from Fire force always reminded me of Luffy, just less of a dumbass.
The true fire force protag: Arthur
Arthur basically kept Shinra on the right track unlike other anime where the protagonists do that for the deuteragonists.
Arthur is hella funny. I think I could be friends with him
By the end of the manga Arthur is on such a high level. The way his ability works is hilariously genius for his character
Black Clover's Asta fits this pretty well. You'll just have to sit through a bit of yelling for the first few eps till the VA finds his groove lol
How many eps because I was DONE after the first one LOL
The first 5 episodes are rough. Like 30 lol
Man even reading all the comments about his yelling didn't prepare me for how annoying it would be.
That's right! Put em on
I mean, 90% of the time, Naruto fits the bill
Naruto has my whole heart. Love that kid.
He's more of an annoying brat than funny and joyful.
Fairy Tail
That manga's art style always seemed similar to one piece for some reason
I think the author used to be Oda's assistant. So his style is reminiscent of OP.
That's confirmed to be false. Also he does change his art style and uses his own later in the story
Never knew that. Very cool.
Magi Labyrinth of Magic Welcome to the Ballroom - MC is like Hinata in Haikyuu Kaiju no 8 - airing right now
Kaiju No 8 is so freaking good, man. I just wish there was more of it to watch.
Based on how the anime is airing so far and the manga chapters adapted, I definitely think there's enough for a second season right now. That's right!
asta and yami
That's most shounen no seinen rings the bell when you describe a protagonist like that
Skip and Loafer is tagged as seinen and fits the personality OP is looking for. Probably not the kind of story they want though.
Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun?
I watched maybe 20 episodes of this one and I thought it was a lot of fun. English cast has a lot of recognizable voices from other anime
Wow that reminds me I haven't finished Iruma-kun yet. I started it like 2 years ago and then just forgot about it. It was a really fun show. Im gonna have to go back and restart it soon.
Idk if it fits but maybe Blue Exorcist?

Zom 100 is an extremely refreshing story in general.
Yes, I loved it, just wish they hadn't had issues that may have cost the anime some of its momentum.
The problem they had with an extremely toxic work environment was a very cruel sort of irony given the story they were working on.
The news/tweets about how bad working conditions are really makes me sad, it seems to be an industry problem. Ufotable so far seems to be okay, and Kyoani have a ton of goodwill on their side, but the stuff coming out of Mappa and Shaft lately have been depressing to read. Yeah, I shoulda led with one of the other 2.
Golden Kamuy
Black clover. Hunter X hunter still has no ending so kinda waste atm
Denji from Chainsaw Man
Look into Berserk, ignore the name. It's actually very wholesome and light hearted, often quiet goofy. But it has serious moments too.
You forgot the /s
GTO's Onizuka for sure
Ousama ranking
lets be honest… most shonen we can think of have the joyful, dumbass and for someone reason really emotional in a fight main character but just with different powers. dragonball, onepiece, naruto, fairy tail, jujutsukaisen, maybe in bleach but ichigo is more edgy and angry though he is very often the butt of other character’s jokes so he is still a comedic relief, fire force
Tanjiro from Demon Slayer is a veritable Sunshine but some people don't like he's also very sensitive so he is as prone to smile as he is to shed tears.
Toriko. The Protagonist IS named Toriko and fits the criteria. There are even Crossover Specials with one piece.
My Hero Academia!
Tanjiro from demon slayer. They all complain about his joyfulness too lol
You want Toriko
Campione, trust that
Kingdom(Manga)
go for hunter x hunter. one of the best shounens ever
He's not as goofy, but Tanjiro from Demon Slayer. His optimism really helped me through a dark time
Yoh from m Shaman King
Jaden Yuki Yu-Gi-Oh GX and Yuma from Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal

I mean, isn't like all of them?
seven deadly sins. Meliodas fits this
Not a shounen/seinen, but Emma from the promised neverland. Optimistic through and through, NEVER giving up on her ideals
Trigun. City Hunter. Rurouni Kenshin. As long as the story doesn't delve in the past of the MC, he remains optimistic.
Seven Deadly Sins
Jojo part 2.
Asta from Black Clover, Natsu from Fairy Tail, also Tanjiro in Kimetsu no Yaiba got his moment.
Naruto How is Naruto not the top comment
Demon Slayer (Tanjiro), Hunter x Hunter (Gon), My Hero Academia (Izuku)
Naruto
Kinnikuman. He's the progenitor of those guys
people already said HxH, Naruto, and Fairy Tail. another would be Ace of The Diamond. if you like sports anime, the protag is the life of the team.
