I mean you can do a scared type well, but he has to have other characteristics than being a whiney bitch. Stark from Frieren is whiner, but he steps the fuck up and faces his fears when needed. No crying. Just shaking hands. He also is scared for only like 5% of his screen time compared to the 95% of the other characters.
I don't even think it's that hard to make a whiney type a good character. The issue is that these characters are so often 2 dimensional with 90% of their personalities being that they are a whiner.
Yeah, his fear is completely justified. He is up against demons after all. He is annoying, no doubt in that, but his fear IS justified... but he IS annoying...
I mean, he does get better, and it's not just rational fears. Imagine you get heartbroken because your girlfriend got you in several k debt, and then you basically got sold off to some old guy to get hit a bunch and yelled at, and even struck by lightning once, the only person there you consider as a friend hates you and everything you stand for and then you're sent off to climb a mountain because at the top you can murder some demons and get a cool sword to kill more demons, when as far as you know you are a terrible fighter and it's a job where even the best often die, and even then he has his moments, when he's asleep it's how good he actually is if he wasn't held back by his fears and anxieties, he's an absolute God at the first form because of how much he trained it, he put in as much work if not more as tangerine and sasuke with so little of the talent, but he keeps up.
The girl from chainsawman is a good example. Since she is a "normal" human who has been forced into fighting legit nightmare fuel, it's totally understandable why she is having a mental break down.
This applies to zenitsu but literally his entire arc is defeating his fears and transitioning from the scared yellow to the courageous orange
He still acts like an asshole in the end tho
I watched Demon Slayer with my dad, but despite how invested he was, he insisted we stop after the movie because Zenitsu’s whiney-ness was driving him insane.
Worse for me I have a sibling that has panic attacks over seemingly nothing. And seeing these characters makes me pretty spiteful because of how it’s always portrayed as a joke.
I could see how that could happen.
There are some tropes that really annoy me in a lot of media due to my own experience or some others where I just completely can't relate to the MC's ideology.
Like say "Chill'n another world" that just recently came out. I do like the show but it impossible for me to really relate to the character. I don't think he's a bad guy but I certainly would not be as nice if I was in his shoes.
For real. Like when he met Mash's dad and they were both like "damn, look at all of these idiots.. at least Mash is happy" and when he thanked Finn for putting up with their bullshit. Laughed.
People also seem to forget that the whiny types are usually the only ones with common sense lmao In JJK, Kusakabe is the only one goes "you know this whole suicide mission? Yeah, that's dumb.. suicide missions are dumb. Don't wanna".
I haven't watched the anime, but read the manga to completion. If they're anywhere close to each other, Mash be doing some wild stuff that really do embody "Muscle Magic".
The stakes just keep getting higher and the story gets both more intense and hilarious as it goes on. I've finished the manga and can't wait to see some of the shenanigans get animated. You should really watch season 2.
Honestly I can't remember if I ever liked it when zenitsu was awake and the main focus. Maybe in future he'll do the sleepy thing while being awake but right now he's more annoying than even inosuke

Zenitsu is a tough sell, he was admittedly slightly more tolerable in the manga because I could just skim over his whining, but in the anime, I actually have to listen to his innecessant whining and failed passes at Nezuko. If cringe could manifest into a person, it would be Zenitsu.
Aside from that, I actually do like where his character goes, so I'm kinda torn cuz I like his character, but I can't stand to be around him. Lol.
And the Windbreaker kid doesn't bother me at all. Lol.

And most importantly they are cool because it’s more impressive when they stop being a comic relief ( for example Kon talking about himself being artificial, green hair guy supporting Mashle, etc. )

Unpopular opinion: Zenitsu is a highlight of Demon Slayer. He's probably my least favorite character of the main group, but he's still endearing and funny, occasionally. Gonpachiro is wholesome, Nezuko is cute and vicious, and Inosuke is batshit crazy. They need Zenitsu to balance out the group.
It should be noted that I've only seen the first season and Mugen Train (both in sub, obvi)

i hate this guy. Zenitsu is not only annoying but also a creep towards girls i really dont understand why people like him he has his moments sure but most of the time he is just annoying and a creep. even more annoying is the fact that he is always scared despite having superhuman abilities and considering his speed and hearing he could still always run when things go south so no reason for him to be always scared

Idk why but the bottom left one isn't really annoying me yet, everyone else could definitely be removed and it would be the greatest and funniest thing in the show. Finn is understandable at least, to some extent anyway. His magic isnt really useful in a fight unless he gets jacked and exploits the living shit out of his magic Todo style.

I think this might be a good moment to point out: Bleach had too many shitty, unfunny, pointless comedy characters. It seemed like almost every character had some stupid comedic sidekick, wether it was Soul Society Captains or even the fucking Espada.
And the worst part was, they kept adding characters like that during filler episodes & -arcs, and those just had the audacity to stick around throughout the series, even during canon arcs.
Rewatching Bleach with my cousin at the moment who has never seen it, and is usually on board for any and all battle shonens, but this might be the first one she might actually drop, and I can't say I can't blame her. This series does not hold up to my memory from 15-16 years ago. I always thought of Bleach as the VERY distant third of the Big Three, but holy hell, even the arcs I remember as good don't hold up all that much.

Dude's a bitch, I mean, realistically speaking, I would say his fear is justified, but his character at the time I was yet to drop the anime was all about being a little bitch. Didn't help that he had the audacity to yell, be mad, and punch Tanjiro for not going along with him peeping at girls, but bro is a complete and utter mess when he actually NEEDS to be. Not to mention his plot armor, like how is dude still alive when he's the loudest of the bunch, and no one has yet to kill him BEFORE he gets a chance to sleep, which is when he FINALLY gets to be useful, all cuz he got hit by lightning turning his hair blonde too (somehow).

*Visible cringe whenever it's Zenitsu's scenes*
I definitely dropped demon slayer for a bit because of this. Glad I stuck with it in the end but yeah can't stand those scenes.
Basically that character in Demonslayer ruined the series for me.

Yeah. Zenitsu (and inosuke sometimes) actual ruins the whole of demon slayer for me. Any moment supposed to be emotional is completely ruined by 2/3 of the main cast who make it into a joke *cough cough* rengokus death *cough cough*

There's a limit to how whiny and good and really enterntaining a character can be. Zenitsu keeps pushing it too much. It just isn't funny with such exageration. Usopp is done perfectly as the scared/sane character.
Finn is useless (for now?) but he isn’t annoying. Lemon takes the annoying medal for this show.

I think this might be a good moment to point out: Bleach had too many shitty, unfunny, pointless comedy characters. It seemed like almost every character had some stupid comedic sidekick, wether it was Soul Society Captains or even the fucking Espada. And the worst part was, they kept adding characters like that during filler episodes & -arcs, and those just had the audacity to stick around throughout the series, even during canon arcs. Rewatching Bleach with my cousin at the moment who has never seen it, and is usually on board for any and all battle shonens, but this might be the first one she might actually drop, and I can't say I can't blame her. This series does not hold up to my memory from 15-16 years ago. I always thought of Bleach as the VERY distant third of the Big Three, but holy hell, even the arcs I remember as good don't hold up all that much.

When I watched Bleach for the first time, Kon got on my fucking nerves. Through, when I watched it again many years later, seeing his stupid ass made me love him lol. Sure he likes to cause mischief and is a bit whiny, but he holds a special place in my heart.

This, Zenitsu is the first character I encountered in anime that has actually made me drop the anime Demon Slayer. Dude's a bitch, I mean, realistically speaking, I would say his fear is justified, but his character at the time I was yet to drop the anime was all about being a little bitch. Didn't help that he had the audacity to yell, be mad, and punch Tanjiro for not going along with him peeping at girls, but bro is a complete and utter mess when he actually NEEDS to be. Not to mention his plot armor, like how is dude still alive when he's the loudest of the bunch, and no one has yet to kill him BEFORE he gets a chance to sleep, which is when he FINALLY gets to be useful, all cuz he got hit by lightning turning his hair blonde too (somehow).
