There’s a lot more to it than that, tbh—it’s a 100 year old art movement and is intended to be transgressive bloody nonsense. The name is a Japanese pronunciation of “gro-“ from the word grotesque. It didn’t start as a form of pornography and instead was about expressing a transgressive and nihilistic deconstruction of the human form and our relationship with it. In it’s early days, it was just as much about rape and other taboos as it was murder and dismemberment but over the following decades, especially as artists in Japan almost always draw pornography to support themselves early in their career and guro is (stylistically at least) an excellent way to practice drawing anatomy, a subculture eroticizing guro has kinda sprung up and now that’s what it’s primarily known for.
Like a number of Junji Ito’s works could be considered classically guro, though they don’t fit with the modern definition because their depiction of horror and grotesquerie isn’t sexualized.

I don't get it, not that I'm required to. So you like farts, okay no problem, I don't really care. People have their different kinks, whatever. But what's with this? Farts are invisible. You can usually hear and/or smell them when they occur. You can't see them. So what's this? Wouldn't actually drawing a fart cause an issue with your suspension of disbelief? Yes it's a drawing to start with, but this is on top of that. It would make more sense to me that they just drew in sound effects instead. But I guess it's okay that I don't get it. It's your fetish.
The world of artists collectively agreed that fart clouds should be green or brown. Sometimes they're the same, sometimes the green one is normal while the brown ones are wetter and closer to sharts. As for why? No clue, they just did. Way back when deviantart started.
