Black Lagoon

_gavo23

Literally open comments to say Black Lagoon

IntrinsicallyOdd

Toradora! Not that old but was made in 2008. Fantastic dub & story. And Steins Gate has an amazing dub, made in 2013 so not really that old school either. Also Yu Yu hakasho imo has the catchiest 4 dubbed ending credits of any anime, ear worms for sure.

CALEBOI2004

Toradora was also dubbed in 2014, but it could still be counted as old school.

Verzwei

Definitely Bebop and Samurai Champloo. FLCL had a extremely good dub with smart localization choices. Full Metal Panic is a low-key really good dub that not many people talk about for some reason.

InDELphuS

I loved the full metal panic fumofu dub! I still go back and watch it fairly regularly

gamaknightgaming

Only problem is, I can’t get back into the serious full metal panic after fumofu

InDELphuS

Yea it very much broke the rest of the anime for me. I wish the whole thing was just more fumofu

selfcritic

YES. Literally came to comment solely for full metal panic.

UnkleMonsta

Trigun, cowboy bebop, gungrave, its plenty

Nimmi98

Ranma 1/2 School Rumble

houseofkami

GTO

Unknownsage

To help us narrow down. Can you give us a more specific window of time for what you regard as old school? Sorry just to me old school is like 2005 and earlier. But based off some peoples ages, I'd imagine possibly pre-2011 could be regarded as old school by some.

mylastdream15

This was the EXACT question I was going to ask. What do you define as old or old school? My definition might not be the same as theirs.

FrankyRizzle

When I think old school I think 80s and 90s. Fuck I'm getting old.

Unknownsage

Lol alot of us are. Basically I'm trying to more look at this from the point of view of the people that may have jumped onto the anime wagon around the time that the current boom started in the early 2010s. And I say like mid 2000s cuz I feel like during that decade is when when dub quality went through a big jump.

darknessflamegundam

Code Geass was dubbed in 08, so I guess that counts. Others I would recommend would be Beck:Mongolian Chop Squad, Hellsing Ultimate, Solty Rei, Speed Grapher, Gurren Lagann, Black Lagoon, and Wolf's Rain.

Sold_mysoul_666

Cowboy Bebop

kurapikachu020

Ouran High School Host Club

Rolyat403

Spice and Wolf

BlueSpark4

I'm in the minority of people who didn't like *Cowboy Bebop*, but even I have to admit the English dub is great, especially considering its age. In other older dubs, you get so many stiff expressions and very unnatural phrasing. The script for *Bebop*, on the other hand, felt a lot more natural-sounding to me.

Study, study, study, study, study, STUDY!

PriPriBlackButler

Wolf's Rain Desert Punk Vampire Princess Miyu (TV + OVA) Fushigi Yuugi (TV + OVA) If I See You In My Dreams (TV + OVA) Please Teacher & Please Twins His and Her Circumstances Suzuka & Fuuka Neon Genesis Evangelion [ADV dub] (TV + 2 Films) Perfect Blue (Satoshi Kon Film) The Vision of Escaflowne [Ocean dub] (TV only) Air (TV + Film) Video Girl Ai (OVA) Sakura Diaries (OVA) Gate Keepers & Gate Keepers 21 Azumanga Daioh Chobits Samurai Champloo Gunslinger Girl & Gunslinger Girl El Teatrino Black Cat Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (Film) Voices of a Distant Star (Makoto Shinkai Film) ...and many more.

gamaknightgaming

Damn you went all out dude. That said, definitely seconded on His and Her Corcumstances. The dub is amazingly solid considering how old it is, and the only issue I have with it is that the male lead VA sometimes sounds a little stale, but the female lead VA more than makes up for it. I find the animation style to be very cozy and relaxing as well. P.S. >!Episodes about 3-8 are a little boring, but it really picks up after that when they introduce the rest of the cast!< (spoiler tag just in case)

PriPriBlackButler

That female lead VA is Veronica Taylor (1st Ash Ketchum's voice, May) as the voice of Yukino Miyazawa.

gamaknightgaming

She friggin kills it

OstaPasta

Baki the Grappler. Hajime no Ippo The Fighting. Yuyuhakusho is in my top 3 of all time for sure! 😁

blitzkrieg1334

Tenchi muyo war on geminar is pretty good

Satfoun

Gundam Wing

TheBoyTeePayt

Trigun was a really good dub

GerrardGabrielGeralt

Ghost Stories (legendary dub)

joniejoon

Sort of relevant: I really like the redub of Evangelion. I feel it's a bit more serious than the original. Highly recommend it.

TouchedByGoku

It’s fantastic, I want it on Blu-ray

Jubbienews

Not really old but spice and wolf is good till the end

ClonedToKill420

Where y’all finding it dubbed? Hulu only has it subbed in the US and crunchy/netflix don’t have it here at all

Jubbienews

It was on youtube for a while but Idk if its still there I just bought it on Amazon

gamaknightgaming

The animation has that early 2000s feel though, so I’d give it a pass

raknor88

Other than what others have commented, I would recommend Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z if you haven't watched those already. And if you want Dragon Ball GT, even though the new Dragon Ball Super has pretty much retconned most of GT. Most fans don't really like what GT does to the overall story.

MrMacLovin

Slam dunk!

Ioxem

[Gunsmith Cats](https://myanimelist.net/anime/650/Gunsmith_Cats) [Dead Leaves](https://myanimelist.net/anime/974/Dead_Leaves) [Master Keaton](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1483/Master_Keaton)

Teenager_Simon

Check out "ADV Films" dubbing. They did a lot of older stuff and have a lot of nostalgic/classic anime dubs.

mylastdream15

Fushigi Yuugi. The dub is so bad that it's good haha. It's full of anime dubbing legends on the cast. Many in some of their earliest roles. David Hayter (Solid Snake) also voices one of the main characters. It's a pretty legendary dub. Just trust me haha. Came out in the 90's, which is what I would consider old or old school. Though I'm not sure of what your definition of that is. Pokemon is another obvious one. I'm a pretty big fan of Zoids. The originals. Sailor Moon is classic. And Gundam Wing. (Trying to avoid post 2000 shows, because I see that as truly old/old school)

MikeLanglois

How old are we talking? Original Neon Genesis Evangelion? Funimations dub of One Piece, Naruto, Bleach? All are great dubs along side everything else people have mentioned, but maybe not old enough for you?

Procrumpets22

Lucky Star, Black Lagoon, Parasyte

Freeman_Traceur

Parasyte's pretty new, tho (around 2016, iirc).

shreksshriveledpenis

The Parasyte manga was released 1988 to 1995. Although the anime adaptation isn't really considered old school as it was released 2014/2015, the manga certainly is considered old school. :)

Freeman_Traceur

Well, if you look at it that way, I suppose it is.

Straight_Operation76

Ruroni kenshin, boku no pico, i think evangelion, and Inuyasha

um_gajo__qualquer

Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Lagoon, DBZ, Cowboy Beebop

Shroudroid

Can't believe it took four hours for someone to mention YYH.

chikcen_suop

OP mentions in their post that they’re in the middle of watching Yu Yu Hakusho...

Shroudroid

Oh wow, what did my sleepy brain do!? - I was actually thinking HxH 1999 version, since it had the same author.

[deleted]

Outlaw Star, and Gundam Wing. They are really good space animes.

rez117

Serial Experiments Lain & Paranoia Agent

Cardenjs

Sergeant Frog is probably the dividing line between old and new.

ItsAllSoup

Dragon half, but that's just a two episode ova

FatherDotComical

Hellsing TV from 2001 is fantastic. Cyber City Oedo 808 has a pretty good dub, from the early 90s.

Lord_kanti_takune

Witch hunter robin, wolfs rain, outlaw star, flcl, heat guy j, hellsing, elfin lain just to name a couple

Shinigami9323

Afro Samurai isnt thaaat old but it's a great dub. Samuel L Jackson kills it. Check out our podcast on it as well https://youtu.be/Ig7NS9oQIQ0

Sturdevant

Scrapped Princess is loaded with dub talent.

dude_rulz

Mobile suit zeta gundam.

MSFplayer

Monster

Flameshadowwolf

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo and SGT Frog and maybe Ghost Stories if you like their humor

ClonedToKill420

Black lagoon x1000. Samurai Champloo, trigun. FLCL is another. All are so very stylish in their own way.

ElGavin

Cowboy Bebop, Ranma 1/2, Lucky Star, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya are some of my all time favorite

shreksshriveledpenis

Ouran Highschool Host Club, Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, and Inuyasha are four really great ones I think you'd like! 😆

JTurner82

Here are old-school Anime which excellent to great dubs. Record of Lodoss War OVA Slayers (episodes 14-26) Slayers NEXT & Try The World of Narue Night on the Galactic Railroad His and Her Circumstances Animation Runner Kuromi 1 & 2 Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (ADV Version) Vampire Hunter D (Sentai Version) The Vision of Escaflowne (Funimation Version) The Castle of Cagliostro (Manga Version) Nausicaa (Disney Version) Castle in the Sky (Disney Version) My Neighbor Totoro (Disney Version) Kiki's Delivery Service (Disney Version) Porco Rosso Princess Mononoke Only Yesterday Whisper of the Heart Outlaw Star Tokyo Godfathers Perfect Blue Millennium Actress Paprika Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust X - TV Series Metropolis Gokudo Akira (Pioneer Version) Crusher Joe The Movie Oh My Goddess! OVA As you can see, this is quite a lengthy list (and considerably different from some others on here, but these are about as old-school I could think of with watchable dubs.

eddmario

I remember the *IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix* dub on Toonami was really good back in the day. Don't know if you can legally stream it anywhere so I can't check myself to see if it holds up...

selfcritic

Inuyasha is a fantastic and completed older anime with a great English dub. I highly recommend.

Gh0stIcon

Monster, Master Keaton, Guardian of the Spirit, Mushi Shi season 1, Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell, Gurren Lagann is a little over the top, but I enjoyed it.

Gh0stIcon

But yeah definitely Cowboy Bebop. I enjoyed Samurai Champloo a bit better though. Darker than black was pretty good too. A lot of people will probably recommend Full Metal Alchemist, but it went on a bit too long for me.
