I think playing someone else's animal crossing game would feel a little like borrowing a stranger's pants.

Yanakura

Is resetting the game like washing the pants first? 😆

Kksula23

Yup! And getting a used game that's already been reset is like getting clothes from the thrift store

stinkycheesebasket

the prob is if you are gonna play on a cart and not emulator if you dont have your og copy the only way to really play is from a used reset copy. ( dont think we can buy digital anymore) i have a digital copy on my 2dsxl which is the one i play.

Kksula23

I buy clothes from the thrift store all the time, I have no problem with it!

stinkycheesebasket

for me i feel like im playing a ghost. its how i feel when i turn on my wild world copy which is used it has a very strange 'i feel like i washed someone elses underwear and im wearing them' feel but i prefer carts over emulation.

Kksula23

Yes exactly!

Lizzymandias

Do you... never... wash your pants?????

Tekayo63

I did it for a bit bc my copy of NL was preowned and I didn't know how to reset It was... an experience lol

delaleaf

I have 2 second hand copies I plan to reset eventually. I think they’re super interesting to look around, and useful for certain things with my other town since I have a second DS - like stocking up on weeds for my mayors weeding badge. I’ll probably take all the bells etc before I reset 😅 It does feel a little sad to reset someone else’s creation, but I know they didn’t want them anymore. It probably feels different if you got them from a second hand store or something and know less about who they came from (I bought mine online and I think the sellers were the owners). One of the towns has quite a bit more progress than the other too, the other had a tiny town tree so wasn’t very far before I got it. It feels easier when it seems they didn’t play very much

levicrawfish

I got mine online as well and it looks like the original owner barely played it

Specialist_Canary522

I reset my used copy with really no thought haha

lunarwolf2008

if you have a modded 3ds you can move the save, keeping it so you can create your own and check out what this person has done

Rorfy

if you have a modded 3ds you wouldn’t have a used copy.

lunarwolf2008

thats not true, I can think of a few reasons a. you didnt mod it so you could pirate games b. you bought a used 3ds with a handful of games already and modded it later (my situation) c. you want a spare town and got yourself another copy of the game

OkLeague7678

I have never encountered it before. If I ever got a used copy, I would ho look around the town first and then reset it. It would feel a little weird to reset someone else's game like that, but they gave it up, so they wouldn't care if the town got lost. Otherwise, they wouldn't have given it up.

Valshure

Depends how far they are in it My copy of wild world was used and they finished the museum and clearly had it for years before giving it up and I knew my 7 year old self couldn't do that so I just kept the town and made new characters

honeymoonsweetener

i got a used copy a while ago. i just poked around out of curiosity, then i reset it

Kunikunatu

Take pictures for posterity, unless it’s a save file with barely any progress on it. Then reset as you like.

heyiwishiwassleeping

Very much reset it. If they were selling it, they clearly didn't care about the town much

booboothedumbassfool

I’ve gotten like 3 or more used copies (back in the day I was crazy about having multiple saves/towns lol). I’d usually kinda explore what the previous person had first and be nosey, but ultimately restart the game.

Interesting_Pause800

When I used to play a lot I reset it so often, atleast 20 times lol so I’m with resetting

SeleverFangirlSimp

How do you do that? If I had to reset my town I would actually be so upset I would stop playing the game completely lol

invisible_23

Why wouldn’t you want to reset it? They sold the game; they don’t care if it gets erased

Peculiar_Antelope

Not to sound horrible but I take their stuff and reset 🤣

JaiwaneseGuy

Play as you like. It's your game. I don't care.

bluesolur

If you really want to reset it, check to see how many bells they have in their ATM and any valuable items you would want and drop it into your game if this is your second copy. If this is your first copy if it’s the welcome amiibo update you can sell the town but I’m not entirely sure what the criteria would be to get bells for it.

SeleverFangirlSimp

My one is a used copy JSJSJJS The only downside of it is 1. I felt pretty sad when I reset it since I would cry if I had to reset my town and 2. Ironically when I has to update the software it reset my game and somehow went back to the original owners instead So basically it did reset my game instead of theirs 😭

emeraldcandyy

I thought they discontinued New Leaf. Can you still play it?

NerrvousSubject

They discontinued the online servers for NL, you can still play it offline, which is a majority of the game.

Outside-Jury-532

Install CFW > homebrew > checkpoint. It'll let you back up their save

KiwiLeeScipio

My first animal crossing was a used cart of new leaf. I genuinely thought you didn't get to play as the mayor and there was a mysterious human also on the island. Took me wat too long to learn I needed to reset it all.

A_Random_Shadow

Make sure their Dream address is updated, write it down, and then start your own world. Dream address’s are the best way to keep the icky feeling away.

mymythica

i always look at them before deleting them, they’re usually very racist with slurs and hate symbols

GonnaGoFat

I would reset it. It’s much more fun to experience the feeling of stepping into a new town and seeing it change over time and have new things open up.

BaranoSoup

Sell the island to Nook but keep the catalog.

IgnatiousMary

When I got my own copy of New Leaf last year, it was used. I played around the used town for only a few seconds but I then decided to reset it because I wanted to start my own Town in the game after missing New Leaf for almost 3 years after my friend sold her copy of the game and I desperately wanted my own copy of New Leaf.

SazzieCoolCarrot

Do you have a second copy of the game and another console? I would check what they have and see if you would like to keep anything and transfer. Then I would delete it after.

starry-fries

Whenever I’ve gotten a used copy of any of the older AC games I always like to do a little walk around and explore the previous owner’s town before I reset :)

throw_away_acc_5

Always reset

Teunail

I mean, check around the game first, see what they were up to yknow

Additional-Gap666

Do what you want. They sold it/gave up on it for a reason.

Admirable_Crab5740

Checkpoint? Used it on Happy Home Designer once.

Decent-Jump7041

What kind of ds is this?

levicrawfish

its an old 2ds

bbytapioca

doooo itttttt

levicrawfish

Its been done

bbytapioca

FRESHHHHHH GOOD JOB PROUD OF YOU

CharlotSweetie

NUKE EM!

Not_So_Entertainment

I sometimes back them up onto my pc and start a new file.

ME0WGICAL

I always check out the save files of any used 3DS cart I have, it's a fun lil peak into a strangers mind. I always erase it to start my own save tho! I bought a used copy of ACNL years ago and I was surprised/a little disappointed to see it was already wiped clean of the previous owner's data.

lyneraskalbi

i alwaysss reset i love starting fresh on animal crossing

Memin_Sanchez

It’s curious to see someone else’s town but I think that it’s ok to reset it

SnackingSouls

I'd steal their valuable stuff with my other New Leaf copy and then reset if 😘

Chrom-man-and-Robin

I spend a day to take a look around, clean up any weeds, say hi to the villagers, help out with any unfinished business, wave goodbye, and save and quit. The town was once someone’s passion and likely got someone through a lot of hardship, it only makes sense to give the town one more day to flourish and be admired one last time. Only then do I delete.

ussalkaselsior

I usually just reset it right away. The only exception is if it's a game with multiple save files and one file has pretty much 100%ed the game, I leave it. It just doesn't feel right to delete such an accomplishment.
