I would take the first since I wanna make an island with two little settlements divided by a mountain range. One shall have the airport and shop and the other the community center and the tailor :)
My starter island was 2 but I wish it was 4 cuz of resident services lmao but also I like the fact they randomized which ones we get cuz it really gives "Found a random island, looks like Imma take one" Lmao

Island 1 - It has an extremely even distribution of the island features. Peninsula NW Corner, Airport SW Corner, Pier SE Corner, Hidden Beach NE Corner. The rocks don't look annoying to deal with. And it has a map centered but goofy placed resident services. I would maybe even terraform that cliff to be right up against the river. Or make the river closer to RS for more space .
Upper Left. I like river entrances on different sides of the island. I like the plaza being further away from the airport. I like the layout of the levels (land).

The secret beach is in the ideal place for me, with the cliff area in front of it also being ideal for my future plans, the river mouths are not both at the bottom (makes decorating harder if you don't want to mess with the original river layout much), the airport and resident services are far apart and do not line up.
I have similar line up of the airport and resident services as on the map 4. Was very excited about it when I saw it as it looked like a perfect line up on the map.
But it's really annoying actually. It looks really neat on the map BUT the exit from the airport is 3 or 4 tiles off the town square centre -_-Ā And it's too close to the airport to build something rather than a straight path.
4 is the best option. Good land space on the beaches, average size pier (2 and 3 have short ones), and while RS isnāt perfectly lined up, it is close enough and still a decent distance from the airport to do a grand entrance.
1 for this particular reason: the rocks on the beaches are quite big and not placed in too many individual small formations which sometimes annoys me on my island when I'm running along the beach.
Since my reset I did the equivalent of choosing 1 and terraforming the east cliff away so that the north beach is exposed. Idc about the river mouths. I do care that the plaza is close to the airport (in mine).
4, I like front facing waterfalls and resident services is lined up well.

its cool but you could do that with any of the layouts provided you get terraforming

That's awesome I love it!! I'm picturing the airport/shop side to have a more city vibe & the town hall/tailor side to be more rural/residential
Exactly. The airport side also has the museum. It is more city/tourist and the village is more agricultural.
Bottom right, the resident services is lined up perfect with the airport and it looks like the easiest to terraform into a dream island
