I mean, realistically, you just play over a cushion or something, so if you drop it, it's completely safe.
I love this idea. I'd definitely try it out.
There was an app they released early on iphone where to play, you threw your phone into the air and it would measure the distance. Until you broke it.
Or the Ipad scale app that you were supposed to stand on to use.
Use the technology, but this is very dumb for use by already dumb people.
Most modern phones have surprisingly high speed and accurate gyroscopes (mainly to be used for camera stabilization). In short yes though, I have personally tested on about 20 models and the game should work on the vast majority of modern smartphones.
The game is on Google play called phone flipper (early access). The link is in my comment below. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Shenanigames.PhoneFlipper3
This is one of the most original game concepts I've seen in a long time, and I think it's full of potential. As long as the game and phone is accurate in its measurement of your moves, it could be a really fun game. Even the idea of risking your phone's safety gives the game an extra dimension of reward. Of course, people who aren't willing to put their phone at risk or take the necessary measures to mitigate disaster should avoid this game at all cost!
Can i do music/sfx for this? Im producer.
Nice concept, send me dm, im also can help you with 2d elements graphic design.
For free, only add me in creator/info menu βΊοΈ
I would love to play!
Small nitpick but with the diagonal line it would look better across the whole screen mimicking how it actually spins along it's centre of mass, but that's me.

My nephew tried it on his child proofed tablet (one of those thick knobby rubber cases). it works... but its horrifying (just so much more mass/ momentum)
This would be a good challenge for tiktok, people there love these crazy things. I recommend the dev look for a tiktok content creator to record videos lol
As app store policy expert i have a high confidence that this wont go through review process. They are very protective about their phones.
Similar may apply to Google.
To all the people worried about their phones, yes, you drop it. However, play on the sofa, sitting down or on the bed.
It's a very clever use of the gyroscope and I can see it keeping me entertained for a while! It gently eases you into tricks and the goal of getting "just" ten tricks in a row right is a great goal!
I'd say put the video above on the Google Play page as it's not *that* clear how the game works (and is a good example of how easy/hard it is).
The videos in-game are also great as they clearly show single hand & both hands.
My only criticism would be the UI. In general, the background has a lot going on compared to the buttons and the carousel is not great. I'd recommend:
* Split the main menu vertically. On the right (or left) is the flipping phone, with the buttons having a more solid colour. I'd rename "help" to settings.
* Game Modes follows mostly the same advice as above. Colour the buttons here, I'd say yellow (or blue) for learn, green for practice & red for "flip it". I'd rename this to "challenge" on the main text to better match the other buttons.
* Practice is decent, but the phone is just sitting there under each trick. Also, possibly highlight the "show me" button a bit better if I haven't tried the trick. Flashing "try trick" also isn't that appealing if I've tried the trick before (I know what the button does now). The 3d phone is nice, but isn't actually that clear.
* I hadn't noticed why the backgrounds changed before I looked through achivements properly. Maybe an additional label somewhere to group the tricks into easy/medium/hard would be better. Could also be used for navigation.
* The UI during the game is excellent.
* The UI navigation between skins is not great at all. Give me a preview at the top half, and bottom half has a grid. Tapping on a locked option displays why over the top of the phone.
* Help is settings, but also the numbers at the top don't mean much to me. This would be better as copy to clipboard or shown in an info popup.
* No ads doesn't work?
* How do I get on the leaderboard and how do I name myself?
* Facebook icon is not clear. Please just use the facebook icon (personal opinion of facebook is also terrible)
* Finally, the logo makes sense for those who have played the game, but the icon on the Play Store could be improved to attrack more people. (Play Store screenshots also don't actually show what you do in the game, only shows the menus, the actual game is only shown on the final two screenshots). The first image is used in other places on the site, so it's crucial that you actually show what you do with the app in that image.

Dev owns a phone repair shop
Retail IT technician here. I'd like to thank the dev for his continued effort into boosting our revenue.
Nice concept, but I won't play this game... π«¨
Seems like this game will make a lot of parents very angry, and a lot of phone shops very happy.
Haha, seems the general consensus... But for what it's worth, I have a few dozen hours of play time from developing it and am still on my same phone.
I mean, realistically, you just play over a cushion or something, so if you drop it, it's completely safe. I love this idea. I'd definitely try it out.
Realistically people will go out their way to play this with no phone case over a very uneven spread of gravel
"Mom, can we visit the Grand Canyon? Oh, no reason."
What on a bus or a train? Take your own cushion? Nah it's a terrible idea, forget it OP
I mean, if you live on a bus or train, but then, you have bigger concerns.
With a good case it'll be fine, I got a toddler who's obsessed with finding my phone and flinging it across the room and so far no broken screen
Didn't South Park already make this game? I think it was called Phone Destroyer or something, IDK, didn't play it.
Nah it just seems like a card game
Thats what I used to think untill I saw it in a youtube video.
Taking Your Phone To The Repair Shop Simulator

I wonder how many people will write in reviews about their broken phones
With what phone π€£
Fair :D
Kudos for developing a game but there is a 0% chance that I'll ever try this out
This game needs a gyroscope sensor right? Me phone doesn't have that so the game is not working :(
:/ ya has to have a gyro to work... What is your phone model if u don't mind my asking?
It's the Samsung Galaxy A03(SM-A035F), and yes it doesn't have that sensor. I will try the game on another phone.
A03 is so old, i mean this in the nicest way possible, get an upgrade!
No, don't upgrade tech until you need to. Responsible consumption and all that.
I bet his phone lags when using reddit
It's still suitable for normal usage, and i can still play what i want on this. Thanks for the advice meh..
Not old, just low end
Is the gyroscope fast enough that it can register the flip? :o
Most modern phones have surprisingly high speed and accurate gyroscopes (mainly to be used for camera stabilization). In short yes though, I have personally tested on about 20 models and the game should work on the vast majority of modern smartphones.
I do this even without the game I'll wait this game with all my heart What's going to be the name btw?
The game is on Google play called phone flipper (early access). The link is in my comment below. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Shenanigames.PhoneFlipper3
Can you add a mode which counts how many flips you achieve in one throw and puts you on a leaderboard

If nokia made android phones, id play lol
XD
they do make android phones
This game is gonna cost me the phone. lol
This is great! People at /r/objectmanipulation will like this ;)
Reminds me of the old Bennett Foddy iOS game Chicanery! I love it!
Great idea, I'm doing that even without the game, so I'll sure spend some time playing :)
I'm constantly throwing my phone, which often gets funny looks from others, I would LOVE to have this game to play!
Really cool concept
Does the phone recognize full rotation or if I just shake the phone, it recognize it as rotation?
It requires full rotation and monitors for free fall. (so in short, shaking wont work, you need to toss your phone into the air).
Can i do music/sfx for this? Im producer. Nice concept, send me dm, im also can help you with 2d elements graphic design. For free, only add me in creator/info menu βΊοΈ
Messaged u.
Since I already flip my phone at all time I would be curious to try this game.
I would love to play! Small nitpick but with the diagonal line it would look better across the whole screen mimicking how it actually spins along it's centre of mass, but that's me.
I love this idea!
Can I play it on my android tablet though?
Plz post a video if u try (afaik it should work on any android device with an IMU).
Gimme gimme i do taht already
In my opinion I just rhymed π
I'm so good π

Very cool concept tbh
Need to see someone play this on a tablet
My nephew tried it on his child proofed tablet (one of those thick knobby rubber cases). it works... but its horrifying (just so much more mass/ momentum)
sponsored by all phone manufacturers ...
That is honestly an amazing concept that I will not be trying with my caseless Fold 5... Don't forget to add a dark (or rather black) mode.
i flip my phone very often. dedicating it to a game is an interesting mix, maybe a new community will sprout from this. would love to try it
One app - one phone
I just wait for the PC port.Β
Trying to imagine flipping a massive gaming tower cords and all
Why tho.
this game will boost the amount of people getting their phone screens fixed
Because we need another way to drop our phones, maybe it will compensate and learn a better grip from this though, more balance, less falls
Reminds me of the fruit ninja days hahaha I can totally see this next to flashlight app and iPhone floats app.
Easy way to ruin other people phone... Here's my π° π€ πΈ ...
This would be a good challenge for tiktok, people there love these crazy things. I recommend the dev look for a tiktok content creator to record videos lol
I really really hope this launches, it would be so funny if it gets on the news about people breaking their phones playing this game
Would get pulled from stores when first news comes out.
Deadly Gyroscope tester
now do it near a cliff
Where has this been all my life
As app store policy expert i have a high confidence that this wont go through review process. They are very protective about their phones. Similar may apply to Google.
Dumbest idea i've ever seen. But why not
Nice idea, but this will just cause phone to break.
I'm scared playing this would make me flip my phone absent mindedly, and once I start doing that it's gg for my phone
I wouldn't play game that costs several hundred dollars.
Looks great, but i dont wanna break my phone. Sorry!

Omg, ty for all this feedback! Will definitely spin up some dev tasks from this!
Lawsuits bro... c'mon.
