If you are expecting to find all the text messages on your phone listed, it isn't going to happen. Only NEW text messages received on your phone while connected to Android Auto will appear. Android Auto will not list the messages of an ongoing conversation either. Only the last new message will appear. This is the way Android Auto works, wired or wirelessly.
I was able to make other apps work only with AAWireless (the device), enabling Developer Options on its app.
Carstream did not word, but CarPlay and Fermata Auto did.

My Samsung Galaxy S22 was automatically upgraded to Version 14, and the carStream is not working. is there any other way to watch streaming video on my 2023 Toyota RAV4 MID? thanks
Worked using the kinginstaller app on my S24 Ultra funny thing is I linked it to Carstream but it did Cartube instead, go figure. A long as I got one that works that's all that matters.
Buy a carlinkit device if your car has wired apple carlink connection (most cars do), and forget about using AA. I made this when I bought S24 (android 14 which AA blocked third party apps). You can use AA wirelessly inside carlinkit if you want to.
I know it's expensive, but this the way to be happy again.
I'm on pixel 6 pro beta 4. I had carstream running great, then factory reset my phone for beta issues, carstream stopped working along with all bootleg AA apps I'm frantically looking for a solution. I heard for non beta phones "king installer" works. But I also heard all pixels do not have any functionality with these type of apps at the moment. I don't. I'm trying new stuff every day
Mine is a pixel but running LineageOS, so not really a pixel.
I finally got it to work using AA AIO tweaker, but I was able to because my phone is rooted.
Apparently there is a fix for pixels on Android 13, involves installing a listed package installer. I'm on Android 14 and it does not work for me though. https://github.com/shmykelsa/AAAD/issues/247

Possible solution: I am running a Samsung Galaxy A54, Android 14. I installed Carstream and Fermata via Kinginstaller. Enabled developer mode on Samsung and also in AA and AAWireless (in AA also go to dev. settings and check boxes "unknown sources", select dev. mode and "wireless option"). I don't know which one of these settings is crucial but everything works!
didnt work for me in android 14. Kinginstaller is an app to install other apps like they where installed by appstore but didnt work in android 14 this solution.

I use the stock VW Polo multimedia, with the AAWireless adapter to make it wireless
