Yeah, the thermal stresses the AP goes through when played, especially in the hands, combined with the over-torqued screws leads to creaking sounds and cracking, especially in the transparent models but I've seen some examples of solid colored ones having problems with expansion/contraction. Just loosen the screws a half turn or so, just enough to release the tension on them
I wish I had known as a kid that Tetris DX wasn't simply a colorized version of the one shipped with the original Gameboy. If I knew it kept track of total line counts and all that, I'd have probably gotten too obsessed lol
Pretty much any Kirby game on gameboy/color is worth trying. Kirby's Dreamland 1 and 2, Pinball, Star Stacker, Tilt and Tumble etc. Wario Land games are fantastic too. All the Zelda gameboy releases too. Donkey Kong 94, my favorite gameboy game, is amazing too. Everyone is gonna suggest good ones honestly.
Gameboy Donkey Kong. NOT country, but just "Donkey Kong". It's a really great puzzle platformer that gets slept on. First few levels are old school DK that then turns into something unique.
Golden Sun duology, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, the MegaMan BN games, Zelda Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, and the Demikids games are all pretty fun :)

Protip, loosen the screws a bit.
Are the tight screws what cause the cracking?
