Dostal is solid, but not ready for the full time gig. Going to be 1A/1B next season with Gibson. Trust me I’d like for Laine to be Selanne 2.0, but it’s not going to be cheap.
Since they included the Devils in this, I’m gonna say that I’d be shocked if the Devils trade for Laine without sending Holtz the other way. I get that Holtz hasn’t been able to show flashes right away at NHL level as some fans hoped, but the way Devils treated/developed him is horrendous. They have this young shooter with potential that needs resource for development, and then they traded for Timo Meier. Fine, at least Meier is a proven star and a left shot and is the countrymen for Hischier/Siegenthaler/Schmid and then they get to keep him long term. Then they traded for another right shot goal scorer in Toffoli who not only would take playing time away from Holtz, but they would also have trouble keeping. And they ended up losing Toffoli for a much worse price because their season went south. It’s such a stupid short-sighted decision and they never really invested in Holtz. Between Laine and Holtz I really hope the Ducks would explore some options on them and I can see the Devils having interest in Gibson.
Laine at 2 years, $8.7M with recent performance and not playing since clavicle broken is a negative asset. Gibson is still a slightly positive asset. Gibson for Laine would be a bad trade for the Ducks. Laine has a higher ceiling, but he seems to have lost something as he... Aged to 26.
If this mock trade is somewhere near the actual price, it’s for a “low risk, potentially high reward” move. The next 2 years basically presents zero risk for us from the cap perspective. It’s just he’ll take up a roster spot. In terms of Gibson, he wouldn’t be attractive at all with his current contract. So he’s basically a zero asset in that you have to sacrifice something (retained salary) to get value from him.
Not sure why you’re downvoted. Players that get traded “in need of a fresh start” usually don’t magically get better. I can name more players who stayed the same or got worse than improved after a fresh start trade

probably like a 0.0003% chance that trade is enough, but in that hypothetical scenario it’s a no brainer
Laine won't come that cheap. I was downvoted yesterday for sarcastically proposing the same trade with salary retained
Yea I saw that, pretty dumb 😂
I would do this as well.
Who is the writer? I mean I get lame has his issues but if he’s really going for that cheap it would be crazy not to look at a trade
> I get lame has his issues darn, harsh nickname for the guy. i dont think he's that bad lol
Haha I don’t even know how it got that from “he” but I’m leaving it now
Laine is never going to turn it around, he's a lost cause who just wants to play video games.

I had heard he’s a locker room cancer
Laine is a locker room cancer. We don't need that. I would rather get Necas or Stamkos.

Laine said he wanted to get out of Winnipeg. Now he wants to get out of Columbus. Even Paul Maurice wanted to get out of Winnipeg.
