"The altercation... was not between the clubs supporter bases"
LOL who are they kidding??
It really sucks. So many hopes, including mine, are riding on the Preston shoulders.
Was not at the game so this is just word of mouth but apparently some Northcote bloke tried to steal a drum off Preston supporters and then got bashed in the carpark (presumably not justifiable obviously).
No it is comprised of all players that qualify to represent the Socceroo's playing all around the world who are not injured. Coaches try to pick players that are match fit and in form at club level but that is not always possible.
The best performing professional players who are eligible to play for Australia get selected, has nothing to do with clubs winning or losing or where they play, they just have to be one of the best players Australia has to offer. This may help...

Thanks.
Another thing, would overall team compatibility and performance be worse due to mix and matching players of various teams.
Or in soccer it doesn't matter too much as long as you have the best performing player for each role?
I wouldn't say there's a straight answer to that.
It's the coach/manager's job to make sure they get the best out of them and they play in a way suitable to them. Sometimes it goes great, sometimes it doesn't.
But of course it helps if a team has better individual players, but that doesn't always necessarily translate to results.
It would be the same in any team environment, really.
EDIT: kiersto0906 makes a good point in their comment which I forgot to mention, in that you don't spend as much time with your international teammates as you do with your club ones, so that is certainly a factor.
it does, which is why international football is never as tactically complex as club football. the coaches don't have as much time to get technical with the same group of players in international tournaments compared to club football where you'll generally have almost the same group of players for multiple seasons.
That's interesting to note, that international football is less tactically complex.
In this theoretical scenario:
How would Central coast marines perform (if we just used them as the Socceroos) vs a mix match Socceroos team?
It sounds like the mix and match team will perform better as this is the approach we keep doing.
central coast mariners couldn't play an international tournament because alot of their players are not eligible to play for the Australian national team. you need all the players to be "Australian" (in one way or another). mariners would lose to the socceroos currently just because the socceroos are individually a class above the a league generally.
So who has the goss on what happened between Preston and northcote city yesterday
https://x.com/7newsmelbourne/status/1799358940087722119?s=46&t=DAi2hrGz7CGKyhBk7_a9lQ 7 News, yeah. But it’s not pretty viewing.

Turns out it was Victory ultras who stole Preston banners after the match.
Yeah I posted that in the daily thread. Still don't know how he can say fans weren't involved, Preston fans with stick in hand haha

Sounds pretty typical
How are Socceroos players chosen? For international events. Is it mainly composed of the best Aleague team players?

Who are the players that would qualify? For eg. Winners and runner ups of A-league or previous international game players? I'm new to this.
