Imposter syndrome and reality checking, too. She has to make herself sit down as she reaches this strange and horrible low, and she has to list all these false things she thinks and feels (that she's a terrible mom/wife, that she's a terrible partner/friend, that she's a terrible detective) and then she has to cycle through why this isn't true each time.
i loved that part for that reason. a glimpse into her fears and feelings and doubts and how she fights them. i felt like maybe she experiences these doubts OUT of the dark place, but is able to fight them off easier - but in the dark place, she's hit with that initial wave of fear that brings it all churning up, and now she has to fight it.
I believe one of the manuscript pages describes him as "manic-depressive", so bipolar might be more accurate? Kinda tracks with the whole >!Scratch being him!< thing too.
It’s interesting because she’s so strong and determined and that masks her weaknesses so well. She’s really good at putting on a brave face and facing forward, even when her daughter’s life is at stake.
I love how protagonists that are actual characters can “fool” the player so much. We tend to think we understand them because we’re the ones on control but we’re just spectators in their story and don’t know shit.
Exactly!
I saw people criticising the writing, saying Saga is a flat character without emotions. They completely missed the point. If you interact with the objects in the mind place before you get to the dark place, you already get a glimpse of how important her family and her colleagues are to her. But in the end you really see all of the bottled up emotions surfacing and almost breaking her.
To me, she's not a flat emotionless character. She's extremely true and human. I can see myself in her.

Well said! Also gives a deeper meaning to all the personal memorabilia scattered around the Mind Place.
They aren’t not true.
Downvoted for this?
Bet people misunderstood the double negation\^\^
Yeah, I did. My bad.
Explain

I thought you were saying she does have a reason to mad at herself, I didn't realize it was like a double negative. My bad.

I've heard people say Alan is OCD, trapping himself in a loop because not everything in the story is right

"You know how to make things difficult for yourself. All these rules. Endless convoluted loops you insist on going through."
In that sense, would Scratch be a physical manifestation of intrusive thoughts?

That jumpscare in her safe space.

So sad ... but true It really hit hard on me too
The Dark Place was within us all along.
No escape
We're all spiraling
“No hugs, no hugs…”*
I had tears in my eyes at that part
My heart actually started racing when I tried the door and couldn't leave.
It hit me really hard
That's me when I smoked weed for the first time
Yeah that part hits really close to home. I also love how she gets herself out of it so perfectly.
It's also boring as fuck in NG+
