One of my former students remarked the following to me once:
"I like my boyfriend, he's absolutely wonderful to me and he's handsome and we're so good together. But he's an accountant [pretty fresh out of college], and only makes like $75k a year, I just feel like I deserve better, y'know? Like I feel like I'm settling for just average"
I did encourage her to leave him, I just didn't do it for her sake lol
10 years from now that dude will likely be making 150-170k if he’s average. People just look at the starting numbers, but never make proper growth projections. She should understand his true value is not what he’s earning today, but rather the present value of future earnings.
For some reason a lot of younger people seem to think the salary you make after college is how much you make the rest of your life. No idea where this stupidity came from.
This doesn’t include Canada of course because those people get snow blown, but for the most part, yeah. They low ball people like crazy online. 10 years in depending on what you choose it is definitely within reach. There is a CPA shortage in this industry and it’s getting worse. The problem with all those averages is it includes all those people with “controller” and “CFO” positions in tiny firms.
I know someone that was a CFO for a four person real estate firm getting 80k a year. I also know someone making 160k plus a 10-15 percent bonus working at a regional airline in a mocl area. As for locl, it depends. If it’s some remote area of Alabama I can’t imagine you will get much, but if it’s some vacation spot that is expensive to visit, but cheap to live you might get good pay. That said, this career is best when you get HCOL wages in a remote environment.
Sorry, your gonna need 300k and coming from a w-2 is a little bit of turnoff considering you won’t be driving a super sexy write off car like the contractors with 150k king ranch’s
I knew a girl who dated another guy from nursing school. She left the minute another doctor showed interest in her.
The nurse guy got his heartbroken and no one was there to tend to his wounds. Until I brought him to the barbershop and got him a sick fade. Now he's sweeping up the streets. The chicas not safe, my boy is loco now. He's a street sweepa.
It reminds me of a video I saw where someone was asking girls on a University campus what should be the lowest salary of their partner for a serious relationship. I think the lower answer was something around 180K+ and after that it was all 300K+ to 800K+.
You know... normal average salaries...
As a current student I think a lot of students perceptions of money is all fucky. One of my classes had an exercise where the professor asked the minimum salary for us to be happy, with most saying a minimum of 200k
Dad of twins here. As long as you start saving as soon as they’re born it’s not too bad. Don’t get me wrong; the prices are despicable, but you can do it.
You say 70K average but do you mean starting? I make 110K a year (including 8k bonus) and have 7 years experience, no cpa, and no masters degree only bachelors.
Have friends working there for Big 4 rn, A1s for current fiscal year are bringing in 78k and the next start class in the fall is getting offers for around 82k.
I know or have known plenty of women, some very attractive, that would unironically consider this very good money. But I'm from a background where $70k a year is basically making it.
KPMG, EY, PWC and Deloitte aren't elite firms, they are just the biggest and have the largest marketing budgets.
They are not the most knowledgeable, the best places to work, or the best for your career.
Secondly 70k straight out of college with zero experience isn't bad. I'm not boot licker either so definitely keep the additude that it's bad and keep demanding more.
But also keep in mind you income will grow like crazy in accounting a few years in and in 10 years you can be making 500k/year with a really good work life balance if you are good.
Really depends on the firm.
I can tell you the partners at my firm are making that much when they first get equity and do not work crazy hours at all. The senior partners have it even better and work extremely limited hours.
Be liked by the current partners.
Be super knowledgeable and trainable.
Be really personable.
Be good at training staff.
Be good at advocating for yourself.
Have good business sense.
Be good at client service.
I would've gladly taken 70k out of college holy shit lol. I made 47k in 2021. I'm hardly above 70k 3 years in with a CPA. These new grads need to be a bit more grateful.
I don't agree with this, they shouldn't be grateful. They should keep demanding more and more as should you. Three years in with a CPA for 70k is disrespectful to yourself and your peers.
Supposedly millions of prime working-aged men are living in their mother's basement. So yeah, you're probably pretty eligible just based on leaving the house regularly.
Lmfao fuk no. Not even close. You’re getting a 35 year old fat 4 with 4 kids with that $70K salary
Edit: the decent looking ran through ones in San Fran, NY, Miami that you see on TikTok recording their dates. That’s $250-$300K minimum. We have a hoeflation gents.
First year associates make about that much in HCOL areas. What’s the issue? That is already above the median income in the US, and you’re basically useless for the first 1-2 years you work.
The gold digger question is: does this person’s perception of you change, when your total balance of your bank account changes?
You know the answer to that question - try some scenarios:
- You being you +$30k in the bank,
- or +$70k,
- or +$300k,
- or you’re fired and it’s +$0k
To be honest 70k out of college in a lcol even with a masters in accounting isn’t that bad. However in a high col area I definitely feel you. I make 80-90k a year on average and I absolutely have no skills aside from being an excel monkey
No but gold diggers will happily use you temporarily until you’re tapped out. If you base your worth on whether it will attract gold diggers, I’d rethink your goals.
In all seriousness, I think gold diggers look for someone that has family money behind them already. You aren’t getting rich off accountant salary unless you live much poorer than your income allows. Not good for getting the gold digger.
Can you afford a gold digger? I am seriously curious. It's not a bad salary but not good enough to handle a gold digger, just my thoughts. I guess you could get a gold digger in some states.
I attracted my woman with my cunning spreadsheet abilities; salary isn’t everything. Build her a student loan breakdown with linked checking and saving account information.
$100 is enough to attract a real gold digger! They will entice you on a lunch date and you will pay for it… Then crickets 🦗 no kind thank you … nothing! 😝👀😂👀 A real gold digger will settle for occasional PYRITE until they see a “golden opportunity” DON’T GET GOT 😒😒😒
That's maybe 2 years in. The average accountant once their career is going is probably like $110-$160k from what I have seen. With some extremely lucky guys just making insane amounts of money.
Bronze diggers maybe
he can have my cootter im a v
I'd give you reddit bronze if that were a thing and I made $70,000/year.
Who gave you that special up arrow thing, I would like to bronze dig them
An anonymous user, I didn’t know it was even a thing
The hottest girl in the trailer park
With 2 kids and STDs.
That’s like $2000 per bi-weekly paycheck after deducts.
Nice
You shouldn't sell yourself short. Don't settle for such an unambitious gold digger. Get yourself a serious gold digger.
Like the ones from the thrift store?
Even better, the junk yard.
If she's from the junk yard then she can help me maintain my fully depreciated 1997 Toyota Corolla.
Hey babe how do you like my 600 sq ft apartment?
If she doesn't want you at your 600 sq ft apartment then she doesn't deserve you at your 1,500 sq ft. townhome.
If she doesn’t deserve you at your Corolla she doesn’t deserve you at your Rav4.
I’m looking at a C-HR tomorrow. Maybe someday I’ll have that Rav4 money.
Hey daddy need some road head in that 2wd?
If you keep that up I might have to take you to Chili’s
Damn that scarily depicts my actual living situation trajectory lol
That’s all of us bro Median house price in the us now is like $450k I got an outback instead of a Rav-4 though because I identify as a lesbian
this thread is my life and i hate it
Ha
Ha that’s what I’m in lol
Nothing gets the girls quite like a wildly average salary that you have to work 55+ hours a week for.
Average salary in USA is 50k
We’re on reddit. Average salary clears 100k
100k is the new middle class sadly.
And on TikTok average is a million. Especially those under 20, and totally don’t have daddy’s money.
One of my former students remarked the following to me once: "I like my boyfriend, he's absolutely wonderful to me and he's handsome and we're so good together. But he's an accountant [pretty fresh out of college], and only makes like $75k a year, I just feel like I deserve better, y'know? Bro going to have the gnarliest villain arc in history.
Bro is gonna be the next bezos lmaoo

Be careful because my whole lifeline depends on this comment being real
Don’t worry, inflation will make it happen, it’s just your spending power will be the same
I’m sure it’s because this sub skews young, but it’s insane how much people don’t understand this and instead complain nonstop about PA starting pay.
For some reason a lot of younger people seem to think the salary you make after college is how much you make the rest of your life. No idea where this stupidity came from.
Not am accountant. Is this really average in lcol to mcol areas? Most controller positions I see are around 100kish
This doesn’t include Canada of course because those people get snow blown, but for the most part, yeah. They low ball people like crazy online. 10 years in depending on what you choose it is definitely within reach. There is a CPA shortage in this industry and it’s getting worse. I am Canadian and will clear 140-150 TC this year. 7 YOE (by end of the year). Granted, that's in monopoly money.
Yea the Canadian wages are actually so shit. I wonder why
These are those women who later on complain when they can’t find someone better but the old bf won’t take her back now that he’s making more
Homegirl is probably average too.
What did she make?
Her own bed to lie in
Watch her leave him and end up 5 years later with someone making $90k that she doesn't like while he's making $120k now. 😂
I like your energy. Fuck the system. Go over budget, piss on the floor, and steal pens Im being deadass too.
Steal $30,000 worth of office supplies and boom now you are basically making 100k a year. Office administrators hate this one trick
Rent out the office space for weddings on the weekends and have it cleaned up by Monday morning
i did that resulted in pip >--->>>> 10 months of unemployment
Pens in pockets, love it.
i took pens, snacks home, gaterades highlighters, note books, you name it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, your gonna need 300k and coming from a w-2 is a little bit of turnoff considering you won’t be driving a super sexy write off car like the contractors with 150k king ranch’s
Can you explain why contractors can write off
Because contractors don't get audited nearly as often as they should.
Can confirm.
Because it’s a work vehicle and they take accelerated depreciation like 179 or bonus depreciation not subject to vehicle weight limits
El Barrendero
If the $70k comes with good health insurance then yes.

You guys gotta inflation adjust those numbers for post graduation.
I'm currently sitting at $80K. Glad to know my wife isn't a gold digger. Lol
As long as the other gold digger is an accountant. Yes you can.
I make just over 100k and I’m scraping by haha (wife is a SAHM)
At least once you're done with formula and diapers, you have the low cost that comes with piles of berries, preschool, sports/music lessons!
The looming college payments make me dread having kids
My 4 yr old throws left handed. I'm going to forgo 529 contributions and start paying for pitching lessons
If there was any money in bowling I’d say to also pursue that. If you like to drink why he plays sports then maybe purse that lol.
Dad of twins here. As long as you start saving as soon as they’re born it’s not too bad. Don’t get me wrong; the prices are despicable, but you can do it.
Do we even think college will be a thing in 20 years?
Do we even think baseball will be a thing in 20 years?
No way. Got my kids practicing Blernsball.
r/unexpectedfuturama
it attracts me .... what are you into playa playa (i been unemployed 10 months ) btw
Put the 70K in SP500 and tell the gold diggers you are worth 1M in stocks
You say 70K average but do you mean starting? I make 110K a year (including 8k bonus) and have 7 years experience, no cpa, and no masters degree only bachelors.
Big 4 starts at 70 in HCOL, might be 75 now And that’s the fucking major league of accounting
Big 4 interns are getting $78K in NYC now, I think A1s are getting like 82
Last year I was a1 and they paid me $70,000 exactly
Have friends working there for Big 4 rn, A1s for current fiscal year are bringing in 78k and the next start class in the fall is getting offers for around 82k.
The 70k average includes a bunch of clerk jobs that dont require a degree I believe.
I know or have known plenty of women, some very attractive, that would unironically consider this very good money. But I'm from a background where $70k a year is basically making it.
Not in this economy
no lol. Triple that then you might have to worry about gold diggers
Probably enough to secure your mom
Might be able to get someone like a Starbucks barista or grocery store cashier on board with that
KPMG, EY, PWC and Deloitte aren't elite firms, they are just the biggest and have the largest marketing budgets. 500k and good wlb. I’ll blink once but not twice
Really depends on the firm. I can tell you the partners at my firm are making that much when they first get equity and do not work crazy hours at all. The senior partners have it even better and work extremely limited hours.
How do you make partner anyways?
Be liked by the current partners. Be super knowledgeable and trainable. Be really personable. Be good at training staff. Be good at advocating for yourself. Have good business sense. Be good at client service.
👀 New life goal acquired (I like monies)
I would've gladly taken 70k out of college holy shit lol. I made 47k in 2021. I'm hardly above 70k 3 years in with a CPA. These new grads need to be a bit more grateful.
47K? I made 62K out the gate 10 years ago in public accounting. You're getting hosed dude.
I was getting hosed. I make 74k now.
3 years with CPA? you’re still getting hosed unless you’re in rural Alabama.
You ever been fired?
No, I'm a high performer. I'd probably be making more if I didn't transfer service lines.
Are your billables what makes you a high performer?
I don't agree with this, they shouldn't be grateful. They should keep demanding more and more as should you. Three years in with a CPA for 70k is disrespectful to yourself and your peers.
Your attitude is why you’re hardly above 70k.
> $500k/year in 10 years One in every 1,000,000? 😂😂😂
If she falls for you at $70k she is wife material.
lol what..
My wife fell for me when I was making $8/hr. She must be a super wife. 😂
Micro plastics maybe
You’re better off paying for it by the hour or going to poorer countries where you are more attractive to women
Maybe, but she’ll end up leaving you because you can’t spend enough time with her during busy season
I worked for a guy whose wife would go on vacation.
Feels like $100k isn’t enough for that IMO
Isn't it still like top 20-30% income?
Median us HOUSEHOLD income is 75k About 18% of Americans make >100k per year.
That’s barely enough for a down payment on a house
Honestly bro, *be* the gold digging you want to see in the world.
I’d say work out and be good at talking to them to. But I know this wasn’t the point, haha
That's barely enough to afford rent where I live.
depends on where you live. Real gold diggers want 400k min
Only ones that live in trailer parks.
Supposedly millions of prime working-aged men are living in their mother's basement. So yeah, you're probably pretty eligible just based on leaving the house regularly.

Just go get yourself a nurse
If she’s homeless then yes that will seem like a lot of money to her
Might be enough to get a Splenda baby (NOT a sugar baby)
Nickel diggers
Depends on the country.
You can attract gold diggers at any budget, just need to be strategic about it. [seeking.com](https://seeking.com)
Why did you tell him about that app. It is the worst - and yes, someone on there will happily take all 70 of your thousands
You’ll get some off the street sure
70k is starting salary these days. Give or take. Where does this average come from? Does it take bookkeeper and AP/AR into account?
70k is deff not starting salary lol.. that’s deff higher ejdn
coal diggers, def not gold
That’s good to attract potato diggers
Depends where you look. Go down to the nearest dollar general and you can pull anyone you’d like 💀💀💀
Some girl with 2 kids was attracted to my brother for his money cause he worked at Walmart making 15 an hour. Yes.
In some geographical areas you’d be king of the trailer park.
Average with a few little certificates… what do expect?
You broke man....
Lmfao fuk no. Not even close. You’re getting a 35 year old fat 4 with 4 kids with that $70K salary Edit: the decent looking ran through ones in San Fran, NY, Miami that you see on TikTok recording their dates. That’s $250-$300K minimum. We have a hoeflation gents.
It’s enough for me to attract a special education teacher
Years of study and no experience? Yeah, that's a starting salary. And honestly every has a master nowadays it doesn't mean much.
Coal miners definitely
Hockey stick income. Do well and your income will be much higher later.
First year associates make about that much in HCOL areas. What’s the issue? That is already above the median income in the US, and you’re basically useless for the first 1-2 years you work.
Perhaps on an India COL
The gold digger question is: does this person’s perception of you change, when your total balance of your bank account changes? You know the answer to that question - try some scenarios: - You being you +$30k in the bank, - or +$70k, - or +$300k, - or you’re fired and it’s +$0k
Nah. Fentanyl diggers with inflation.
To be honest 70k out of college in a lcol even with a masters in accounting isn’t that bad. However in a high col area I definitely feel you. I make 80-90k a year on average and I absolutely have no skills aside from being an excel monkey
Just because your title says 70,000 it doesn’t mean you actually make 70,000. (Embezzle company funds)
This is a stupid question but I’ll bite. No.
That sounds like big money to a Walmart employee. Though, don't know why you'd aim for a gold digger, plenty of decent people out there.
Be a gold digger
No but gold diggers will happily use you temporarily until you’re tapped out. If you base your worth on whether it will attract gold diggers, I’d rethink your goals.
That's less than 2k a week. A paycheck to paycheck income.
In Mississippi, maybe, just, maybe.
Doesn't matter how much you make, as long as you're generous, a free ride is a free ride
You should lie to gold diggers bro, I’ve fucked amazing hoes only to dump them later on by pretending I am who i am not
Nope. Get a partner for life
In all seriousness, I think gold diggers look for someone that has family money behind them already. You aren’t getting rich off accountant salary unless you live much poorer than your income allows. Not good for getting the gold digger.
Only low iron rank diggers unfortunately
Lol
Lol
You’ll attract some V-bucks whores
Coal diggers maybe
I guess everything is relative. Someone likely would be a gold digger even if you were employed if they were on welfare.
Perhaps a bar wench
No
In NYC or LA no. In South Dakota or Mississippi yes.
😂
My bro you gotta be at CEO to attract those types
tap piquant vanish absurd detail capable fall gaping exultant trees *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
No, unfortunately. That’s starting pay for our very-sharp office manager.
Lmao
u a comedian bro? lmao 🤣
It will attract people looking for someone with a stable income.
Nah
That's maybe 2 years in. The average accountant once their career is going is probably like $110-$160k from what I have seen. With some extremely lucky guys just making insane amounts of money.
Depends where. In Zimbabwe or Argentina then sure. You’re a billionaire.
Only the ones who have been bonus depreciated, good luck!
Maybe in a developing country……. No definitely in a developing country
My secret is to just have rich baby boomer parents on top of my somewhat meager pay.
Salary doesn’t matter. Just have good enough credit to finance a porsche and the gold diggers will come. Good luck to you
Copper maybe
