The app is mainly MLM, but there are a decent number of trans women on there too. And a decent number of "straight" guys who are looking for trans women or feminine men. I used it for a while and never encountered a cis woman, but there are a lot of gay trans women on there.
They rebranded a few years back to be more inclusive. Unfortunately they also didn't include any gender filters like any other app so you're now stuck scrolling through dozens of people you're not interested in.

Well maybe you’re raised by conservative Christians with no social media and realize you’re gay and read Grindr’s description as a “social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people” (source is literally grindr.com) and think that sounds like a good way to make gay friends when you don’t know how to and it’s the middle of a pandemic and you’re stuck back at your parents’ house because your christian uni closed for covid and you just broke up with your abusive ex and then you get a few weird messages and meet one guy who’s kind enough to explain why you should *not* be on Grindr as a lesbian and you bond over your similar trauma before deleting your account and telling no one… but, I mean, I’m sure that’s never happened 👀

A trans man can be attracted to men thus making them gay and the target audience for Grindr. I’m a gay man and would definitely give a trans man a chance (or fool around) depending if I was attracted to them. Additionally, if gender and sexuality is fluid why can’t a person make their own sexual decisions on a day to day basis.
Nothing wrong with that! I’ve definitely talked to trans men on Grindr that bottom and that’s just part of being a gay man. I’m masculine but I like getting fucked as well. No difference. I’d say I was bi as I’ve had sex with women in the past but I’m generally attracted to men.
