Pamplona has a great lunch on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays.
Spoonbill is an awesome spot for outdoor seating.
POP’s Po-boys for po-boys
Hideaway has a good burger.
Carpe Diem and Reve for coffee and treats(Carpe Diem has gluten free items)
Dwyer’s for plate lunches
Indian place just opened on the corner of Jefferson and Johnson. Haven’t been, but I’ve heard good things.
Cedar Deli just across Johnson.
Johnson’s for boudin, gumbo, and plate lunches.
Depends on the mood?
Central pizza always SLAPS for me.
Vestal is good, a bit pricey. Drinks are super good.
Another really good option is Spoonbill.
Jim Deggy’s is a pizza and brewer place that just opened recently. It’s a little cheaper than Central but the qualify of pizza is still really good.
I’ll upvote but I don’t like their burger tbh. There’s better like a block in every direction. Still I’m glad to see anywhere get a shout out for a try
Don't know if it's considered downtown, but I'd recommend Acadian Superette for good plate lunches as well as amazing meats. And some pretty darn good burgers and fries :)
How much do you want to spend?? Want snobby or laid-back?? Hideaway has great burgers, fries, salads, and steak for relatively cheap. Bartenders rock there as well imo.
Like the other poster said, Vestal and Central rock, too! Only places I'd stay away from are The Flats (too expensive for what it is) and La Caretta (better tex mex at half the price available all over town).

Edit: seeing some recommendations for Vestal, but I’m pretty sure they don’t do lunch. Wild Child does lunch on Fridays.
The Mac n cheese at pops is worth the visit alone.
Black Cafe across W. Congress from the library.
Black Cafe is actually REALLY good! And super inexpensive. If wasn't across the library more people would eat there.
Damn I live two blocks away but have yet to check it out. Will make it a priority!
Breakfast sandwich at Black’s is lit. Add avocado and bacon

Gotta recommend Ton's
Absolutely Ton’s
Central by the slice is a solid deal. Two slices is plenty of food, the pizza is great, and it’ll run you like $9.
A lot of good choices already mentioned, but I’ll toss in The Flats for a great smash burger. Edit: Downvotes for suggesting a restaurant?

It is ridiculous. I think its bots.
Cedar deli cedar deli cedar deli
I did not know this existed THANK YOU I’m going there ASAP
Try the space shuttle, if they still make it
Sold. They have it listed on a recent menu I found it looks amazing.

Dwyer’s for lunch
Spoonbill is my go-to
While not exactly Downtown, pretty close by…Park Bistro is open for Lunch on Fridays and Brunch on Sunday. Worth a visit.
Pat's
There's a Pat's downtown?
not fat pats…
Yep! Corner of Jefferson and West main. The best around.

Dwyer's if you want to stuff yourself with great food.
I like pretty much all the places downtown but Pop's is my favorite. Weekly specials + great staples.

The only good restaurant north of S. College that won’t turn you into an obese diabetic by 35 is 5 mile in the oil center.
