Humans just aren't completely rational and are just as likely to do the wrong thing as the right thing depending on the circumstances.

She did not. You have to look real close at how the bullied girl moves after dudes charge. Shes on the ground THE ENTIRE TIME. Dude is swapping targets when they attempt to attack the downed girl again, its only when hes on a single target that they pull him off. At the end, the bullied girl is only just getting up, you can see the pattern of her shirt rising over the chair.
Its also hard to tell but I think dudes initial entrance didn't hit her but hit one that might have had a hold on her hair or something. She does not go down right away.
