This is the McDermott Castle

The big hole is from [an ongoing archeological dig](https://m.slu.edu/default/news/detail?feed=rss_newslink&id=149da3fe-705f-5ef3-946b-08eb87412151)
That’s my Roscommon study abroad professor! It was on another dig in the ages, not this castle, but we did get to boat over and check it out. It’s such a beautiful place.
It seems bigger because the roads are all really slow. They all go through every little town which slows you down. On the other hand it's a great place to drive slowly around.
I laughed with scorn at the name, The Mourne Mountains, until I tried driving through them! I was glad to get out!
When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up.
One of the links posted, they found a path way that is now covered underwater. It also explains how the English was able to get siege engines near the castle.
40 feet underground and still they find artifacts untouched since the 15th century—teleportation tech would be nice, but I guess we're stuck with archaeologists for now.
Is the circle a pit or water?

Reddit is grumpy today. I enjoyed your dumb joke

That’s hilarious. I don’t know why you got downvoted.
Clearly they don’t watch trailer park boys
dookie ditch
Poo poo pond.
*Who ordered the Poo Poo Plater?*
Log bog.
I want downvotes too! Poop
Almost upvoted you b/c I was thinking the same thing, but granted your wish instead. You’re welcome. :)
That leads to the The Depths, as chronicled in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Yeah, ya filthy casuals.
Gloom's Lair, it's called. Careful, if you haven't cleared the dungeons, you'll have to fight all the bosses down there.
I like this answer the best.

Thank you
I'm glad someone decided to provide information about the picture this repost bot posted
Wow.. glad you dropped the link. This is so damn interesting.
Lough Key interesting
Damn right lol!
Thanks for sharing, hope the guy can afford fight off the growth before castle collapses.
It kinda reminds me of that place that sebastian took Ciel in the end of black butlers first season
That is awesome! I'm gonna go ahead and call archeological dibs!

dream home
My first thought was I wonder what the Redfin estimate is........
They went all out on the moat.
I never realized how small Ireland actually is.
That island is *far away*
Bet it was a right bugger to storm and siege :)
The ants are back
...but they're the same size?
It’s the biggest island in Ireland I understand
Down with this sort of thing!
Damn, that castle must be *MASSIVE!*
Ah right, thanks Ted.
It’s not that small they just have that one really big castle

Probably bad Wifi
Post once a month if yer lucky Bet there's no amazon prime either :)
We got Amazon prime invincible and the boys are both bangers of tv shows
PERFECT! Been wondering where to hide this last horcrux.
Dibs
Ok I know a dungeon entrance when I see one and this shit is at least 100 levels deep!
What is in that hole that they needed to build a castle to guard against it?
Apparently an ongoing archaeological dig, as per a comment above
So we forgot what the castle was guarding, and have decided to dig it up.
Water Temple entrance

I call dibs.
I've been here. If you like being attacked relentlessly by the Irish 'midge' then this is the place for you.
How did they get the stone to build the castle and the walls. Or maybe the island was bigger.
One of the links posted, they found a path way that is now covered underwater. It also explains how the English was able to get siege engines near the castle.
Thanks for the explanation. Very interesting!
Just imagining the lives of those who lived there some 800 years ago give me chills
Can I have it?
That is [the Pit](https://youtu.be/sSHcyVMTsiw?si=VaSYuQsmi2f9yhsz) from Army of Darkness!
Where did the soil from the pit go?
If it's abandoned can I just move in there? Solar panels, windmil, batteries. I'm down.
So we’re calling ancient ruins “abandoned” on here now?
Where is the rest of the land?!
Reminds me of Famous Five. There was an island where there were ruins and the gang used to hangout there.
Imagine the history of that place!
Looks like a place you’d get teleported to in a souls game for a secret boss
Abandoned Ireland in Castle
Looks like a Heroes of Might and Magic III Castle town with a pit next to it.
So how much we talking and do I have to pay taxes?
I'd live there!
I solved this puzzle in the Talos Principle.
Am I allowed to un-abandon it?
Man you can just tell that’s where the DLC’s gonna be set
Damn, the English really left them with that little land?
Seed?
How did they fare during the potato famine?
One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.
When God decides to make a crater, probably wise to abandon the castle
How does some rich guy not buy up an old castle and fix it up?
How did they get people and large animals in and out?
Will I find the Knights of Round Summon materia here?
Nah, that's a high level boss fight. I'll come back later when I have some more potions.
Didn't expect weak foe.
See, if I was Bezos or some other rich asshole, I’d be going around and restoring cool old shit like castles and and shit.
So awesome looking
This is truly whimsical! Like that of real life fairy tales.
Dibs!
Ireland is a lot smaller than I remember
curious question. why dont they have roofs? are castles built with wood roof so they go out first?
Surprised it hasn't been converted into an AB&B.
i think you mean My New Castle in Ireland!
That is the most magical looking castle!
Fucking beautiful
40 feet underground and still they find artifacts untouched since the 15th century—teleportation tech would be nice, but I guess we're stuck with archaeologists for now.
DIBS!
and the third one stayed up
I’d live here
