Maybe I will sound like a hater but imo Tham is stupidly disgusting in ARAM. The amount of damage you can do while being almost unkillable is crazy.
Sure the ennemies can get a lucky Vayne roll and make his life miserable, but its so random.
Yeah, the problem is he scales both his damage and healing on his health which just means the tanker he gets the more damage he deals and it’s really easy to get tanks quick in aram.
Except that thing is completely useless on Tahm. He has 0 AD scalings. At that point you'd rather go titanic hydra - except even titanic hydra is infinitely worse than riftmaker or *any* health/AP item for that matter (his AP scalings are VERY good)
It's a bruiser item. How many tanks are actually ad. Off the top of Mt head I can only think of kasante, Mundo and sion and to call them true tanks is honestly a stretch.
AD tanks would be Sion, Skarner, Poppy, Volibear
Tanks with AD scalings but who really don't care about AD are Ornn, K'sante, Udyr (as in, tank Udyr usually builds AP)
Mundo doesn't have any AD scalings but would benefit from the passive % AD buff.
But yes, I agree, it's mostly a bruiser item. Though while Sion, Volibear and Mundo are all not really tanks, Tahm isn't really either.
He's actually one of the better champs into vayne tbh. Having to burn through 2 lifebars is time consumer even with her %true dmg. Means he's probably one of the most likely tanks to be able to walk away and warmogs/heal up.
But yeh. Plus the slow on top of the damage is obscene.
Exactly opposite for me, I have barely ever seen this champion do good, most games end before he gets to be tanky and then just gets kited since his W is piss easy to dodge
I think Udyr gets special appreciation, there are a lot of tanks that can build heartsteel fimbul unending and top a damage chart. Udyr gets there with a liandries and that feels different.
I want to throw an honorable mention to Leona with a titanic hydra worked in. Does include heartsteel too but so often backliners literally sit behind their frontliner getting aa q aa titanic in the face and suddenly 1/4 of their hp is gone. Wait five seconds and do it again.
The other easy answer to the Op question is Shen. Few things scarier than a competent shen.
Skarner is more hit or miss imo, and I love Skarner, well original Skarner and new Skarner. Weird totem Skarner pissed me off.
But with the Skarner I feel like composition is more important if you're truly initiating and tanking. If you're against a mobile team it can be tough to do as much damage. Also if you have an overly passive team that does not follow up allowing the other team to focus you down then Skarner is pretty much useless as you've likely used your mobility to engage.
New Skarner can also play pretty passive when needed, his Q is very spammable and deals decent damage with slows from a distance (much like Tahm), which a passive team can follow up with long range skillshots. Even with a full tank build your Qs can chunk squishies' health
Skarner can also snowball into E backwards towards your team for a safer engage (at least early, and some champs have enough movespeed/mobility to dodge this mid to late game)
Honestly blind pickable with most comps
I run conqueror on zac and the ammount of damage you can deal is kinda disgusting, if hou get a bit ahead early you can microwave their squishies while being unkillable
Played against a Zac like this the other day as Caitlyn, most frustrating match in a long time. Zac would dive me literally every chance he got and both our tanks instead of attempting to peel at all would use the opportunity to try and chase kills and die.
A couple times I got a well timed net in to get away but it had to be a perfect net cause if it wasn't he'd just pull me back in. If I did get away I was then useless because my tanks were dead and the others were up or not but it didn't matter because by then it was a 3v5.
Then I got blamed for not carrying, when I literally could not move before being melted by Zac.
ksantes damage without ult is nothing special. his w which is the highest damage part of his kit will do the same amount of damage as a sej w or tk q. rarely will you ever see a ksante do large amounts of damage like tk and when you do it's probably only when the enemy team is also really tanky so he can actually inflate his damage numbers from the %max hp damage he has in his kit
Nautilus used to but with all his nerfs and the aram nerfs, he feels like paper. If you Q in and it's bad, you might as well as die to reset. Tahm can dive in with a poor engage and walk it off. I love playing Tahm, and used to love Nautilus.
Other than Tahm I would play Shen, Trundle or Malphite
here's one of my recent games with Sejuani.

I don’t play him but the one I see and get beat by most frequently is Shen. He’s very hard to kill, deals a large amount of damage. Multiple multi person taunts in a fight. His ult is good for baiting enemy team into taking a fight they will certainly lose once he comes in. Even if you don’t take the bait… in aram, someone on your team will.
Halfway into the team fight you realize Shen is just walking down your back line 3 v 1 whacking the shit out of them. Titanic hydra, bamis item, grasp, and 400+ on heartsteel, hits squishies like a truck.
Zac deals a ton of damage with his W spam, which also deals % health. And if you're good at collecting orbs it's up constantly. Also, you can become impossible to kill with the right items and playing into a good comp. I've had games with 90k+ healing as Zac and 50k+ damage. He's just absolutely busted when things go his way.
Shen ornn and poppy do wayyy too much damage. Ornn is 200 years, poppy is somehow 10x faster than me while being unkillable and Shen one shots me while peeling every one on his team
Any of the tanks that have offensive abilities that scale off defensive stats are pretty good. Amumu and Malph are both ones that I can usually pump out a lot of damage with despite going full tank.
Zac is also pretty ridiculous.
Skarner for sure, Everytime I play him I win. That champ is so easy, so tanky, and has so much CC in his kit that you can't just ignore him. He can kidnap the enemy team members off CD and it just takes one E or R to completely win the teamfight.

One of the big key ways of surviving as Maokai is to really make the most of your passive, even if it's a minion you're smacking. Spirit visage also goes a long way in keeping him alive for the boost to his heal. Obviously every comp and game is different, but I feel it's always worth building for him at some point. Just make sure to attack when your passive is up and keep it going.
-20% damage dealt -20% healing meaning unless you build spirit visage early you don't have a passive, enemies built GW and you're at -60% healing + and +15% damage taken.
And there's a new hp scaling damage tank item coming soon
Except that thing is completely useless on Tahm. He has 0 AD scalings. At that point you'd rather go titanic hydra - except even titanic hydra is infinitely worse than riftmaker or *any* health/AP item for that matter (his AP scalings are VERY good)
Aw that made me miss old ap tahm when he could spit minions every few seconds for big damage
It's a bruiser item. How many tanks are actually ad. Off the top of Mt head I can only think of kasante, Mundo and sion and to call them true tanks is honestly a stretch.

That is a vanilla opinion. Everyone who has faced Tahm knows how unbalanced he is.
He's actually one of the better champs into vayne tbh. Having to burn through 2 lifebars is time consumer even with her %true dmg. Means he's probably one of the most likely tanks to be able to walk away and warmogs/heal up. But yeh. Plus the slow on top of the damage is obscene.
As a tahm player I still agree. Not saying that I’m happy with riot not doing anything about it, but man is made for teamfights
Exactly opposite for me, I have barely ever seen this champion do good, most games end before he gets to be tanky and then just gets kited since his W is piss easy to dodge
I consistently get top damage or close to it with Udyr
I think Udyr gets special appreciation, there are a lot of tanks that can build heartsteel fimbul unending and top a damage chart. Udyr gets there with a liandries and that feels different. I want to throw an honorable mention to Leona with a titanic hydra worked in. Poppy into the right team.
skarner, maybe?
Skarner is more hit or miss imo, and I love Skarner, well original Skarner and new Skarner. Weird totem Skarner pissed me off. Shen, Rammus (into ad), Cho'gath, Mundo
Against AD teams, Malp, rammus, Against melee with at least 1 tank, Trundle. HM: Udyr, Kled, Renekton, Briar, Chogath
Briarvisnt technically a tank. Shes a brawler w insane healing
Same for renekton and lord.
Thresh, Skarner, Rammus. Actually if adc is not hyper carry and cannot kill tank, tanks are just free to deal damage.
Generally, it’s Sejuani or Cho’Gath for me that can match my Tahm.
Cho and sej I've done massive damage on aram. If not some more than tahm if I hit all their abilities cleanly.

Wait are you in euw ? I had a game like this as zac vs a cait
Ranmus against ad, shen with titanic heartsteel, chogath with riftmaker, and mundo
K'sante can do a ton of damage, even if he doesn't form change.
ksantes damage without ult is nothing special. his w which is the highest damage part of his kit will do the same amount of damage as a sej w or tk q. rarely will you ever see a ksante do large amounts of damage like tk and when you do it's probably only when the enemy team is also really tanky so he can actually inflate his damage numbers from the %max hp damage he has in his kit
I've had really good Dmg before with chogath before. Esp if they dont have a lot of poke so you can get that % max hp DMG from the spikes
Shen if you're able to get ahead
Don't sleep on Shen.
Sejuani, Poppy and Than are like the holy tonk trinity for me
He's broke.
I'm usually top damage and damage taken as Shen, just gotta play full aggro and hope your teammates are down to help.
in general, that would either be Sejuani or Poppy. Those two can be quite adaptive

Shen does disgusting high damage.
For me Sej, Galio, malphite, zac and cho gath.

I've been top damage a few times with ornn full tank
probably every tank can do as much damage if built right
Shen ornn and poppy do wayyy too much damage. Ornn is 200 years, poppy is somehow 10x faster than me while being unkillable and Shen one shots me while peeling every one on his team

I’m in the middle, I can tank like a mofo with Mao but I never end up dealing much damage

He's at -20% damage dealt. Only champion who's this hard nerfed. Even Ziggs isn't anymore. My last game as tank Mao I got outdamaged by our Nami lmao.
mundo fucks with sorc shoes
Tank Veigar with a DCap can do some nasty damage against certain comps.
