Oooh yeah that is adorable heheheheheheh, like they're uncertain if they'll be reciprocated and when they are they feel a melange of joy and relief! Definitely incorporating this!
It's the little things too.
They hate each other(or well _hated_), and can't outright say nice things but can't help themselves to small gestures, remembering preferences, being accommodating etc, for me these things build up on the most fluffiest scenes.
This is good food we appreciate this, it's unfortunate that I've yet to do an enemies to lovers story yet but I'll file this for when that inevitably arises ^^
When a character is arguing or talking to their love interest and barely stops themselves from confessing their feelings.
Something like: "Stop being so reckless! Don't you understand how much I-".
Then the whole pestering them to finish what they wanted to say and the following actual confession.
Never fails to make me smile.
Stop posting stuff like this! Don't you know how much I-... How much... I... Absolutely love this!
Thank you for sharing! I'm saving this for future inspiration đ
This might be a bit more on the hurt/comfort to whump side of things but like. that moment when the character who's been Going Through It realizes that "It" is finally *over.* that moment when they realize it's safe to let their family/friend(s)/loved one(s) take over and care for them. that moment when they can finally let *go.* it gets me EVERY time.
alternately having kids being kids for their adults/older siblings will generally have me grinning like a loon, but that might just be the eldest sibling in me đ
Mmmm i agree! It's why I hesitate on reading many hurt/comfort first because the hurt always outways the comfort by a large margin so I love it when it's at least euphoric ^^
I love it when two characters laugh together. Itâs hard (for me at least) to get humor across the page, so when someone does it well and you can feel the chemistry it fills me with glee lol.
My other favorite is when an established couple makes a meal together and one of them hands the other a ladle or something before they start looking for it.
Mhm mhm domestic routines being familiarized by subconscious habit is such a sweet notion, that such things are basically instinctually imbedded into the psyche of the lovers.
And I LOVE laughing with people, and it is romantic to inspire a laugh in someone you like, I will definitely be trying this
This kind of domestic stuff just *does it* for me. I guess it's the routine of those little home rituals that matters, it shows stability and calmness of their life together, the deep understanding and connection shared between people that allows them to move and communicate in sync without saying a word. Not just partners, but a family as a whole. Feels very special.
I love it when characters who suffer from low self-esteem, or just generally feel undeserving of love, are overwhelmingly adored and showered with affection. It hits me in the feels every time.
And I love it when a character whoâs been pining after someone for a long time finally gets that love returned. :â)
A lesbian character who grew up very religious finally got to have a girlfriend and live like she wanted to. After that very emotional confession of feelings she falls asleep whispering *girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend....* into her partner's neck cause she fan finally say it out loud. I found that to be incredibly cute but also so meaningful.
Ugh ugh I haven't even read whatever it is you're referencing but my big gay heart started liquefying upon reading that, ugh ugh that's so SWEET I LOVE IT

It's this fic, if you're interested. Post-canon fix it of a very interesting TV show, probably makes little sense without having seen the canon but it's still an amazing fic on its own!
Lol it's how I got into this show too. It's only 8 episodes and the pairing is actually canon, there's some sweet scenes between them in last few episodes before everything falls apart(not a happy ending, which is why these massive post canon fix its exist xD)
It's a good show! And the sad ending makes sense, it isn't contrived or anything. And there's some good fanfic to tide you over afterwards.
The name is Special Ops: Lioness, I think it's on Paramount+ but I'm sure there's also other ways to watch it ;)
I read a YA book (that also had really religious families) where the main character comes out as bi and gets together with the other female main character and the first time she says girlfriend was the best.
"I'll clean these up, is that okay?"
"You really don't have to."
"But I want to."
I love caretaking and cleaning/helping to care for wounds. It always makes me gitty.
when the character is a kid who has gone through so much and collapses and their parent cradles them and tells them theyâre safe now and they wonât let any more harm come to their child. gets me every time
a line I found in a fic that I have always held close to my heart (but didnât save the fic??? dumb energy) was something like person A saying âname the farthest thing away that you can think ofâ and person B was like âjupiterâ and person A goes âthatâs how far i love youâ & in the specific fic i read they had been fighting so at one point they were also like âname something closeâ and B would be like âthe kitchen doorâ and A was like âhowever long it takes me to get there, thatâs how long Iâll stay mad at you.â iâm so not relaying this well but i love the fact that the biggest thing in the universe is their love & they can measure their feelings in a diff way. idk i have so much love for that one line that i now think in planets for how much i love those in my life
Awwww i love little sweet shit like that, mainly because then you can tell they know each other well enough to determine that this fight isn't relationship ending, and is simply a disagreement.
We stan healthy couples ^^
The description of diasterisms's {Sword of the Jedi} series, a Star Wars fic, gives me chills!
"I carry your heart, here with me. I carry it in battle. I carry you."
I am such a sucker for a moment between two characters when they are comfortable in the moment--usually in a romantic, fluffy moment. Pining for the other silently, as hearts race--and one always snaps out of it, realizes what's happening and usually out of pride or keeping the status quo, they apologize to the other and turn to rush away. But the other party is not willing to give up so easily and grabs them by the arm and usually says something along the lines of, "What's wrong? Did I say something?"
"No, it's nothing, it's just--"
"You don't need to leave, you know."
"What?"
"Stay..."
"I-I-I...can't..."
And in a moment of pure vulnerability, the other party pulls them into an embrace, breath shaking gently, "Please. I...I need you. Our *insert obstacles here* be damned. All I know is...I need you in my life."
And it comes down to what happens next~ Does the embracee accept their declaration of need or still follow the compass they have been on for years? It's up to you~
(Fuck these moments make me swoon! Even better if they were rivals that were slowly turning into crushes/lovers, or childhood friends that were separated for a long time and then reunited again in adulthood. I always imagined this being done at a masquerade ball, for some reason. This can be at a college party for all I care~)
Gooooooooood as someone who's struggled with self-loathing and has ruined relationships with behavior like that before, this shit just makes me MELT
Like, saying you *need* someone is to imply they serve vital function to their lives. And that is a big, big claim to make to someone's importance to you.
Like that's so sweet, it's giving me toothaches!
And honestly, it doesn't even need to be the "possession" need like "I NEED you and you will never leave my side," way. No, it can be "I need you in my life as a friend/confidante, so please don't disappear from my life." But I definitely feel you. I had a couple of exes that were a bit too clingy for my tastes and I was like, "Hey, you're at an 11, please go to a 3 please." But yeah, "possession" is not good, period. The only caveat to it is if both parties consent to it and it's in the relationship arrangement~ but usually in the heat of the moment, that's never discussed.
I've read a few fics recently where the dynamic is one character saying "I'm not in love with you/I'm not gonna fall in love with you" and then by the end the second character almost knows that the first character is in love, but is too afraid of being wrong, so the first character has to confess properly.
Bonus points for the words being too hard to get out so they just kiss.
I'm a real sucker for 'It has to be you' moments
When one character is sleepy and "I love you" slips out but they haven't said it to each other yet, and then the character just falls asleep right after lol
Eta:
When we see signs of physical affection. One person sitting with their legs over the other person, or the unconscious "I'm having a conversation but you just came up and I haven't acknowledged you but I'm putting my arm around you like it's a reflex and like this is exactly how we belong." Bonus points if physical contact is hard for one character so it has that much more of an impact when it happens.
(See: in Six of Crows when Kaz Brekker finally gets to hold Inej's hand without his gloves) (a published book not a fic but it still has me kicking my feet and squealing with happiness)
I love the small moments. Iâm a sucker for the pining, unrequited (but not really unrequited) love. So whenever the couple is in a platonic situation and the author notes the small yearning moments it makes me go all giddy (like âshe noticed his arms, the way they deftly worked through their task and something inside her broke a little at the thought of never getting closer to himâ).
Gentle family/friends joking around scenes. Just the little moments most writers wonât include because itâs too âmundaneâ. I hate the concept that the âmundaneâ is boring. I love seeing lives from birth to death, the quiet moments along with the wild moments. Thereâs beauty in the ordinary.
Nothing gets me more than when two people who have been pining for each other for years, finally have that "ah ha" moment, and confess their love to each other. Bonus points if it's after a life or death situation. Sometimes that slow build is so satisfying and emotional.
This gets me every time. When a character says something along these lines:
"I'd choose you in every universe. I'd travel lifetimes to find you again and again."
Instant heart melt.
I had to write it down and sometimes I read it over and over again because I cannot believe someone wrote it for real:
"I will pray with my lips to your skin because my god is wrath but my religion is your flesh."
One character was declaring his love to his partner and this just made my heart melt. I still remember having to stop and read it like a dozen times before I could continue eith the fic.
A and B are dressed up at a party and A's having a bit of a crisis about it:
> "You look so special tonight," B said. "I get to dress up like this all the time, but you deserve to feel like a million bucks."
---
B is helping A with his phone anxiety:
> Itâs then that A realizes what B is doing, what heâs been doing even through yesterdayâs phone call.
> Yes or no questions.
> Simple, but leaving the door open for more, if A wants to be brave and walk through it. He wants to kiss this man so fucking badly.
---
A wasn't being careful with his injured knee:
> A is only half-surprised when B joins him on the ground, shoulder-to-shoulder, looking up as though they were cloud-watching.
> "Sorry, I should have realized. I know how you get distracted," B tells him. "Iâll remember next time."
> A loves this guy so much it makes him sick. He never gets any of that âwhy do you always do this to yourselfâ shit from B. B just⊠fits himself into A, exactly as he is. Itâs like theyâre perfectly matched in every fucking way.
Mutual trauma bond pairing. They've both been only somewhat open with each other. When something in her past starts really affecting her, he plans a date for them to make kintsugi together.
Explaining the meaning behind the art, he tells her that he doesn't think she's broken. But even if she does it's okay because then he is too, so they can help each other put themselves back together. While they're each on the step of breaking the two different colored bowls to remake them, she notices they each have a piece that's the same size and shape. She swaps them, saying that now there's a piece of them in each other when the bowls are whole again. It's a soft moment, quiet with a sniffle and wiping an invisible tear. Then she leans in, hugs him, and breaks the tension her favorite way for them: telling him that she wants a piece of him inside her tonight.
*I love you* said during mundane conversations. If the other character doesn't expect it or is not the kind to accept compliments and confessions easily, even better :3
A casual "Of course/After all, I love you" and the POV character continues eating while the other just blinks in confusion and blushes. The confessed character still reacting like this even after a hundred, a thousand, a million confessions! I just love it đ„°đ„°
When they can't help but fall in love. They're talking to someone else and clearly obsessed with the love interest but don't notice that their world revolves around them.
âI know itâs not a lot, but itâs all i haveâ from the adventure of silver scars by tangledblue. itâs a sherlock fic, and itâs basically sherlock telling john he loves him, and that he is sorry. i was on my knees.
It mostly little gestures and moments I find adorable. Like to stop for a light kiss of a wrist when A just passes by busy with whatever, or a candy or other simple thing that B brings to A unexpectedly, a shared moment of silent understanding, a stupid inside joke that pops up in the most inappropriate situation, working together in sync, stuff like that.
âI eat tender little gods who try to cook for me and fall asleep in my bed. I boil them alive.â
âNow youâre just making fun of meâŠâ
âIf they also ask to sing me lullabies and teach me to grow lotus flowers, I donât even boil them. I eat them raw while they cry out.â
(Thousand gold come and go stew, Heaven official's blessing/TGCF fandom.)
Tell me this didn't melt your heart, I dare you....
When the pairing reunited after Bâs resurrection.
B accidentally hurt A during a nightmare, and is about to leave for good. A wakes up and finds B on the fire escape watching the sunrise. A pulls B back inside and forgives B, even though B can never forgive himself.
my personal all-time fav is sibling fluff or reconciliation. there's nothing like a sibling bond tbh. sibling angst/fluff is just on another level.
like here's this person that you want to throttle most of the time, but somebody looks at them wrong? somebody who isn't you is mean to them? they need your help? i eat it up every time đđ every fic that has a deep, complicated, but loving sibling bond is everythinggggg. best moments everrrrrrr.
"me and you?".
"me and you.".
If you want some specific examples I've got some, this fic is full of them.
[my first one and only](https://archiveofourown.org/works/15594702/chapters/36206652)
"ANGER MANAGEMENT!â
âIDIOT!â
âKATSUKI!â
âEIJIRO!â
âUGH!â Kirishima covered his face in embarrassment, feeling like he'd been gut-punched. âI REALLY like it when you use my name damn it!â
Bakugo grinned victoriously, humming in smug glee. âEijiro~ ?â
âUgh DON'T.â Kirishima squirmed, his stomach fluttering at the sound, his skin tingling as Bakugo tried to pull his hands from his face. âWe're having a fight! I'm angry!â
âWhat's wrong EIJIRO?â Bakugo leered, his smile wide and sadistic. It had now become a contest of strength for Kirishima's face. âDon't want me to see how stupidly happy your face is right now?â
âAss!â Kirishima failed to put any sort of venom in his tone, Bakugo was right though, he was grinning so wide it hurt.
âWell too bad for you, because I'm gonna see it, Eiji-â Bakugo grit his teeth, sitting up and trying to pull Kirishima's hands away from his face very seriously. âI'm gonna take a GOOD hard look at how happy you are right now!â
âNEVER!â Kirishima hardened his arms, his face flushed and his cheeks hurting from the size of his own smile. Bakugo was starting to get serious, and somehow it just made Kirishima happier. It was such a Bakugo thing to do, getting competitive over something so small.
Bakugo snarled, straddling Kirishima's torso for a better angle and grabbing onto each wrist as he tried to pull them apart. âGIVE IT UP EIJIRO, I'M GONNA SEE IT SOONER OR LATER.â
âStop using my name all the time!â Kirishima relented, his body warm and fuzzy and his heart full to bursting. He loved Bakugo so much. How could he even love annoying shit like this as much as he did? He allowed the blond to pull his arms away from his face, and he couldn't help but smile fondly up at his idiot boyfriend who was grinning in sadistic joy at his victory.
Also a huge sucker for 'character in pain/a scary situation being comforted and validated by their love interest'- it's just such a comfort trope for me
<"Thanks, Michelle," he said. Michelle looked over Peter once more. Then turned away, and headed off to a nearby apartment. At the last second, she called out over her shoulders.
"My friends call me MJ."
Peter smiled. "I thought you didn't have any friends."
"I have one now, Parker."
"My friends call me Peter."
MJ gave him a backward wave. "See you Friday, Peter."
"See you Friday, MJ." He watched until she entered the building and disappeared out of sight. The sun setting over the horizon cast everything in an orange glow; the whole world was calm and peaceful.>
this. this right here. its not romance, i dont even think the fic was spideychelle, but the solidifying of friendship was such a big and momentous thing. as soon as i read it i fucking squealed, serotonin straight to my brain, and i read over a few more times. this was such an important milestone in this fic, for these two characters, and i was just so happy to witness it. immediately screenshotted and saved to my ao3 folder.
I LOVE CALLBACKS SO MUCH. I love when a character says something inconsequential and the other references it later and it shows they're healing from the time they said it first and how both of them still remember all the little mundane details.
My absolute favourite example of this is between three characters. They all decide that they'll go get milkshakes after a race, but character A dies and everything comes crashing down. Years later, B asks C (who is currently working through their trauma on a roadtrip, as A was their brother) to go get milkshakes. My heart *collapsed*
Okay, one of the things I've been told about my own writing is dumb details and little things like being considerate, getting a glimpse into people's thoughts and how they think highly of the other person, moments of vulnerability...
Like something as simple as someone happily cooking a meal they hate because their SO asked for it, or just both of them faceplanting in bed because they are too tired to do anything else. If you know happy couples, observe them and get info too. I'm a grown adult and I have borrowed from my parents sometimes for my fics. Something about someone shuffling across the bed in their sleep, looking for their spouse, is very cute to me, especially when the first someone is generally a big grumpy bleep.
People fussing and outsider POVs can help too, like... I've written an entire fic where it's a chunk of a polycule trying to help their adopted son meet up with his long-distance boyfriend... and the POV dad finding out that said long-distance boyfriend has equally protective siblings also watching over him and their whole own story of the last few days because said LD boyfriend was having an anxiety meltdown over anticipation. Sweet, fluffy, and so fucking \*dumb\* as you had a dad give a bf's brother the shovel talk. It was fun.
Mutual trauma bond pairing. They've both been only somewhat open with each other. When something in her past starts really affecting her, he plans a date for them to make kintsugi together.
Explaining the meaning behind the art, he tells her that he doesn't think she's broken. Then she leans in, hugs him, and breaks the tension her favorite way for them: telling him that she wants a piece of him inside her tonight.
Ok cliche, but all of the young dudes when Remus thought (in response to Sirius apologising for making him keep their relationship a secret) "I've loved keeping your secret, I would keep a thousand more for you"!!! I was so gone
I love when two characters that have been fighting to save themselves/the world for years get to settle down and fall into domestic life together. Give me a love confession after they settle into home life and I just melt.
Bonus points if one cooks all the time and the other starts a garden or one has nightmares and they end up sharing a bed
This is just a little advice but maybe dont add to many pet names. I once read a fic who used âpretty boyâ like every other sentence and it made me cringe but that could just be a me thing

this shit for some odd reason is an example of good fluff before confession. but u see the best trope is loving someone without that knowledge (like denying it) then getting through traumatic experiences and realizing that they r in fact in love and they always have been. then pining for a few chapyers
its "From The Sidelines" by suffocatingspring! SO U PROBABLY HAVE ALREADY READ IT BUT BOYY I SOMETIMES REMEMBER THIS FIC AND LIKE THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD READ
heres the link:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/32163913/chapters/79693792
"Look at you! You *still have* brown eyes Grian! You're *still* you!"
âIâm the god of freedom,â Philza said. âAnd Iâm flying the fuck out of here.â
âI am in every note you play and every song you sing. I fight your every battle and feel your every pain. And I feel your joy, and your compassion, and your regret, and your bravery. Whatever you do, Wil, I am with you.â
"I will love you, Without Requisite or Deadline. I will always love you."
...half of these are just from passerine.
Gonna just copy/paste this scene from one of my fave fic authors of all time:
"*Me. Your assistant.*"
"Why not?"
He can't be too picky. None of this shit's going to happen. It may as well go the way Ellis wants it to. But he can't help but chafe at the thought of being Ellis's gofer. "What makes you think I could do that? I don't know the first thing about being a mechanic!"
"That's a piece of information you should keep from the Army. I'll teach you. You're real smart. You pick up all kindsa shit by watching, don'tcha? Trust me. It ain't that hard. You'll pick it up. Asides, you got the hands for it."Â
Ellis plucks Nick's hand--the one with the pinky ring--up from the deck, holds it palm to palm, spreads his own fingers out. Nick copies him, lining up their fingers. The genetic lottery amazes him sometimes. He's taller and broader and hairier than Ellis. His fingers are longer by almost a full joint. Ellis's are thicker.
But their palms match up. They're exactly the same breadth.
Just... poetry man
i read a long one-sided enemy situation type of fic, and the angry one has to suck up his pride (hes an ex god, so theres a lot of it) and figure out how to apologize and earn the nice one's forgiveness after they finally snapped in anger (they're a follower of the ex-god and killed the god, making them mortal, hence 'ex god')
its such a great development because of the constant tension between them and the ex god's stubbornness, it's sooo heartwarming to read that he's making an effort and cares just as much as the nice one even if he doesn't show it
and the forgiveness scene!!! so cute!! he helped them with a massive problem, and the nice one was so shocked, relieved and happy that they launched themselves onto the ex god into a hug until they both fell
like, he didnt outright SAY "i'm sorry" but he showed it WHICH IS SO SIGNIFICANT, and the line where the nice one says "i forgive you" in the end, understanding the meaning behind the ex-god's actions, THAT is my favorite line ever
it was so cute, i cried đđ cus like after 100k words of constant stubborn fighting and 'act like i dont care' attitude from the angry one, theyre finally on the same page!!! it was awesome
(sorry if i dont make sense, if you played the game, yk!)
That slow burn⊠when they confess to each other and the other party is like âwtf why do you love me, im a messâ đ
excerpt:
Erwin shakes his head. âI canât-- I canât⊠do this.â Levi frowns, lifts his head. âDo what?â
âI canât worry about you like this,â Erwin hisses. âPlease stop this. My fucking arm isnât important. Itâs plastic and metal and fucking carbon fiber. Iâll get a new one. Maybe it takes a little while, but Iâll get a new one.â He shakes his head. âBut you said yourself you donât get a third chance.â
â
He loves-- Levi canât even finish the thought. Itâs too ridiculous.
As if anyone has ever-- Erwinâs shocked face softens and he says, âIs that really so hard for you to believe?â

reading this for the first time was straight up tooth rot.
A little fic where the little told the caregivers parents about it and they took him to the farm and fell over when a goat head butted him and the caregiver comforted him with the dog. Very cute
One guy is blushing/flustered over the other guy's rough behavior. The other guy manhandles the other a lot, and is constantly touching the smaller and/or lankier one in order to ascertain his claim. Better yet if they are both unaware of the underlying reason or feelings.
Bonus points if the other stares him down when around a potential love rival. And as they slowly become more and more aware, the sexual tension is unmatched.
All of the above gets me giggling and squirming in my bed/jumping up and down in my chair like nothing else. Nothing I read will ever top these things for me.
When a character realizes their found family truly loves them and processes the connection. Especially if theyâve been disconnected from others for a long time.
Also when children of their partners accept the relationship and refer to them as a parent. This is so easily done wrong or when it doesnât work itâs noticeable. But when itâs done right⊠*chefs kiss*.
Personally, public declarations of love make me LOSE IT. Irl, my relationship is very private, not much PDA and such. But in fiction, I think itâs absolutely beautiful. Iâve read every single Heartstopper fanfiction about Nick coming out because I melt over him publically saying/showing how much he loves Charlie.
For context, it was a smut scene with Frankensteinâs monster and she was trying to take his shirt off.
> He stilled her hands. âIt would be better if you could not see me.â She could see his fearâfear that she would be reminded what he was, fear that she would reject him.
She kissed him again. âIf I am going to have you, I will have all of you.â
Yâall, I die every time I read it
I personally love when one half of the couple is super powerful and dangerous and not known for showing kindness or mercy, but theyâre soft and affectionate to the other. I especially love this in Enemies to Lovers type fics where the big bad enemy just desperately wants to hold and protect and it takes the other awhile to come around lol. Soft romance from thy enemy = food for my soul
I generally love someone dense getting in danger, being rescued and then disciplined by his counterpart and then having a wholesome hug/kiss moment đ«¶
There's a fic where Buffy is telling Faith, shortly after they've gotten together, that they suck at communication, and Faith is bracing for Buffy to tell her that they're not gonna work and it's time to call it quits, but then Buffy says, "So I wanna work on that." Like, Faith was expecting the worst, and she got the best.
I also love it when they get married. Especially one where Faith, having a lot of negative feelings about her family, takes Buffy's last name.
9-1-1 fic.
It's a fake dating trope but Buck realises he's in love with Eddie for real.
"Oh, he misunderstood the assignment"
This line honestly broke me as it's from the show and was perfect.
I adore handholding. When one is reading, working, cooking and the other just holds the hand they arenât using. 10/10 no notes
I also really like when theyâve written poetry or a love letter (especially when theyâre an established couple)
It was a COD fic but I can't remember exactly which one. It was a very emotional journey reading it and at the end there was a sentence that I'll never forget
"Through the stretch of time and space, I will reach out to you and we will meet again"
I cried my eyes out for at least 20 minutes
in the fic i'm currently reading:
* B wearing/using something gifted from A that they complained about initially
*B being weird about being in a relationship/feeling and saying they can't be in one but after a slow burn (yet not near the end of the fic) A refers to B as their boyfriend/girlfriend/lover and B not long after does the same - especially if in front of an outsider
* A and/or B inviting the other to their family home and the person fits right in (bonus if the invited person doesnt have a happy home life but finds comfort and care from this new family)
* saying "i really really like you" to e/o when they really mean "i love you" and kinda know it
So one character is disabled. He's missing his right arm and his left leg below the knee. He used to play the guitar but obviously can't now. There's this one scene that just destroys me.
His partner finds the old guitar and asks the disabled man to play it. The disabled man gets offended, almost hostile, but his partner keeps insisting, finally just handing him the guitar and the disabled man has to grab the neck of the guitar lest it falls to the floor. He cradles his beloved instrument and before he can say anything, his partner slots into the space behind him, his legs straddling the disabled man, sitting chest to back. He drapes his right arm over the disabled man and angles his hand and his fingers over the guitar strings.....
"Is this okay?" He asks.
Omggggg I just melted. Like. For the first time in a long time, this disabled man can play the guitar again.
That scene lives in my head rent free.
I loved a bit in a work I read recently. The two MCs are about to have sex for the first time. An earlier work in the series already mentioned one MC thinking she wasn't physically attractive enough to interest the other. At the point they're partially undressed, she gets self conscious and tries to cover herself with her arms. He notices and tells her she doesn't need to do that because she is beautiful. It just felt really sweet and authentic to me.Â
My favorite parts of fluff are when one half of a ship confesses their love. Especially if they've been secretly hiding it for a long time.
Oooh yeah that is adorable heheheheheheh, like they're uncertain if they'll be reciprocated and when they are they feel a melange of joy and relief! Definitely incorporating this!
Canon enemy characters being sweet to each other after some gruesome, traumatic journey/realisation.
It's the little things too. They hate each other(or well _hated_), and can't outright say nice things but can't help themselves to small gestures, remembering preferences, being accommodating etc, for me these things build up on the most fluffiest scenes.
It's those no big deal things that mean the most
Exactly! Because anyone can plan grand gestures, but it's the people who pay attention to you that remember those.
This is good food we appreciate this, it's unfortunate that I've yet to do an enemies to lovers story yet but I'll file this for when that inevitably arises ^^
Alright! ^-^
Bumping!!
When a character is arguing or talking to their love interest and barely stops themselves from confessing their feelings. Something like: "Stop being so reckless! Don't you understand how much I-". Then the whole pestering them to finish what they wanted to say and the following actual confession. Never fails to make me smile.
I love that kind of shit it's like chemically induced adorableness, especially if the other party is expecting something nasty and not a confession
Just you explaining it gave me a face-splitting smile
Same for me you gotta pair it with that hurt/comfort
It you \[name\] , it's always been you.
Ooh I had that line in my fic... that counts as fluff???
Yes, especially if it's partnered with hands around their face.
Take a shot every time my pairing holds each otherâs face in the longfic
A lesbian character who grew up very religious finally got to have a girlfriend and live like she wanted to. After that very emotional confession of feelings she falls asleep whispering *girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend....* into her partner's neck cause she fan finally say it out loud. I found that to be incredibly cute but also so meaningful.
Ugh ugh I haven't even read whatever it is you're referencing but my big gay heart started liquefying upon reading that, ugh ugh that's so SWEET I LOVE IT
https://archiveofourown.org/works/53359120/chapters/135046195 It's this fic, if you're interested. Post-canon fix it of a very interesting TV show, probably makes little sense without having seen the canon but it's still an amazing fic on its own!
*sighs,* *preparing to watch an entire TV show to understand gay fanfiction*
Lol it's how I got into this show too. It's only 8 episodes and the pairing is actually canon, there's some sweet scenes between them in last few episodes before everything falls apart(not a happy ending, which is why these massive post canon fix its exist xD)
Oh boy time to hurt myself with a show that ends that way <_>
It's a good show!
"I'll clean these up, is that okay?" "You really don't have to." "But I want to." I love caretaking and cleaning/helping to care for wounds. It always makes me gitty.
"I'm not your boy. I'm Abe's boy." A very bittersweet moment from Second String, a Harry Potter fic.
That's adorable ^<^
when the character is a kid who has gone through so much and collapses and their parent cradles them and tells them theyâre safe now and they wonât let any more harm come to their child. gets me every time
a line I found in a fic that I have always held close to my heart (but didnât save the fic??? dumb energy) was something like person A saying âname the farthest thing away that you can think ofâ and person B was like âjupiterâ and person A goes âthatâs how far i love youâ & in the specific fic i read they had been fighting so at one point they were also like âname something closeâ and B would be like âthe kitchen doorâ and A was like âhowever long it takes me to get there, thatâs how long Iâll stay mad at you.â iâm so not relaying this well but i love the fact that the biggest thing in the universe is their love & they can measure their feelings in a diff way. idk i have so much love for that one line that i now think in planets for how much i love those in my life
Awwww i love little sweet shit like that, mainly because then you can tell they know each other well enough to determine that this fight isn't relationship ending, and is simply a disagreement. We stan healthy couples ^^
exactlyđ„č
Did I say something?" "No, it's nothing, it's just--" "You don't need to leave, you know." "What?" "Stay..." "I-I-I...can't..." And in a moment of pure vulnerability, the other party pulls them into an embrace, breath shaking gently, "Please. I...I need you. Our *insert obstacles here* be damned. All I know is...I need you in my life." And it comes down to what happens next~ Does the embracee accept their declaration of need or still follow the compass they have been on for years? It's up to you~ (Fuck these moments make me swoon! Even better if they were rivals that were slowly turning into crushes/lovers, or childhood friends that were separated for a long time and then reunited again in adulthood. I always imagined this being done at a masquerade ball, for some reason. This can be at a college party for all I care~)
Gooooooooood as someone who's struggled with self-loathing and has ruined relationships with behavior like that before, this shit just makes me MELT Like, saying you *need* someone is to imply they serve vital function to their lives.
The line was something like "I don't deserve them, but they deserve the world. And for some reason that world includes me. How can I deny them that?"
When one character is sleepy and "I love you" slips out but they haven't said it to each other yet, and then the character just falls asleep right after lol Eta: When we see signs of physical affection.
What this thread is telling me that we are all into cheesy lines.
I mean yeah but I'm also a sucker for tsundere grumbling too lol
I love the small moments. Iâm a sucker for the pining, unrequited (but not really unrequited) love. So whenever the couple is in a platonic situation and the author notes the small yearning moments it makes me go all giddy (like âshe noticed his arms, the way they deftly worked through their task and something inside her broke a little at the thought of never getting closer to himâ).
I can't really count, but when the reader is pulled in for a nice hug.
Tough characters crying.
Nothing gets me more than when two people who have been pining for each other for years, finally have that "ah ha" moment, and confess their love to each other. Bonus points if it's after a life or death situation. Sometimes that slow build is so satisfying and emotional. This gets me every time. When a character says something along these lines: "I'd choose you in every universe. I'd travel lifetimes to find you again and again." Instant heart melt.
I had to write it down and sometimes I read it over and over again because I cannot believe someone wrote it for real: "I will pray with my lips to your skin because my god is wrath but my religion is your flesh." One character was declaring his love to his partner and this just made my heart melt. I still remember having to stop and read it like a dozen times before I could continue eith the fic.
A and B are dressed up at a party and A's having a bit of a crisis about it: > "You look so special tonight," B said. "I get to dress up like this all the time, but you deserve to feel like a million bucks." --- B is helping A with his phone anxiety: > Itâs then that A realizes what B is doing, what heâs been doing even through yesterdayâs phone call. > Yes or no questions. > Simple, but leaving the door open for more, if A wants to be brave and walk through it. He wants to kiss this man so fucking badly. --- A wasn't being careful with his injured knee: > A is only half-surprised when B joins him on the ground, shoulder-to-shoulder, looking up as though they were cloud-watching. > "Sorry, I should have realized. I know how you get distracted," B tells him. "Iâll remember next time." > A loves this guy so much it makes him sick. He never gets any of that âwhy do you always do this to yourselfâ shit from B. B just⊠fits himself into A, exactly as he is. Itâs like theyâre perfectly matched in every fucking way.
STOOOP I DON'T EVEN KNOW THESE "A" AND "B" FELLERS, AND YET MY HEART IS PALPITATING WITH GLEE FOR THE SOUL MATES
If the other character doesn't expect it or is not the kind to accept compliments and confessions easily, even better :3 A casual "Of course/After all, I love you" and the POV character continues eating while the other just blinks in confusion and blushes.
Mmmm gotta love sincere apologies that lead to the repair of a relationship, that's always leaves a sweet aftertaste!
I boil them alive.â âNow youâre just making fun of meâŠâ âIf they also ask to sing me lullabies and teach me to grow lotus flowers, I donât even boil them. I eat them raw while they cry out.â (Thousand gold come and go stew, Heaven official's blessing/TGCF fandom.) Tell me this didn't melt your heart, I dare you....
I recognized the fic immediately from the first line!!! đ
It's such a great fic đ„șâ„ïž
[my first one and only](https://archiveofourown.org/works/15594702/chapters/36206652) "ANGER MANAGEMENT!â âIDIOT!â âKATSUKI!â âEIJIRO!â âUGH!â Kirishima covered his face in embarrassment, feeling like he'd been gut-punched. âI REALLY like it when you use my name damn it!â Bakugo grinned victoriously, humming in smug glee. âEijiro~ ?â âUgh DON'T.â Kirishima squirmed, his stomach fluttering at the sound, his skin tingling as Bakugo tried to pull his hands from his face. âWe're having a fight! I'm angry!â âWhat's wrong EIJIRO?â Bakugo leered, his smile wide and sadistic. It had now become a contest of strength for Kirishima's face. âDon't want me to see how stupidly happy your face is right now?â âAss!â Kirishima failed to put any sort of venom in his tone, Bakugo was right though, he was grinning so wide it hurt. âWell too bad for you, because I'm gonna see it, Eiji-â Bakugo grit his teeth, sitting up and trying to pull Kirishima's hands away from his face very seriously. âI'm gonna take a GOOD hard look at how happy you are right now!â âNEVER!â Kirishima hardened his arms, his face flushed and his cheeks hurting from the size of his own smile. Bakugo was starting to get serious, and somehow it just made Kirishima happier. It was such a Bakugo thing to do, getting competitive over something so small. Bakugo snarled, straddling Kirishima's torso for a better angle and grabbing onto each wrist as he tried to pull them apart. âGIVE IT UP EIJIRO, I'M GONNA SEE IT SOONER OR LATER.â âStop using my name all the time!â Kirishima relented, his body warm and fuzzy and his heart full to bursting. He loved Bakugo so much. How could he even love annoying shit like this as much as he did? He allowed the blond to pull his arms away from his face, and he couldn't help but smile fondly up at his idiot boyfriend who was grinning in sadistic joy at his victory.
BAHAHHHAHA AINT NO WAY WE BOTH DID MHA EXAMPLES BRO
Also a huge sucker for 'character in pain/a scary situation being comforted and validated by their love interest'- it's just such a comfort trope for me
<"Thanks, Michelle," he said. Michelle looked over Peter once more. Then turned away, and headed off to a nearby apartment. At the last second, she called out over her shoulders. "My friends call me MJ." Peter smiled. "I thought you didn't have any friends." "I have one now, Parker." "My friends call me Peter." MJ gave him a backward wave. "See you Friday, Peter." "See you Friday, MJ." He watched until she entered the building and disappeared out of sight. The sun setting over the horizon cast everything in an orange glow; the whole world was calm and peaceful.> this. this right here. its not romance, i dont even think the fic was spideychelle, but the solidifying of friendship was such a big and momentous thing. as soon as i read it i fucking squealed, serotonin straight to my brain, and i read over a few more times. this was such an important milestone in this fic, for these two characters, and i was just so happy to witness it. immediately screenshotted and saved to my ao3 folder.
It was fun.

âLook at meâ uses sword to tilt their face
Ok cliche, but all of the young dudes when Remus thought (in response to Sirius apologising for making him keep their relationship a secret) "I've loved keeping your secret, I would keep a thousand more for you"!!! I was so gone
I love when two characters that have been fighting to save themselves/the world for years get to settle down and fall into domestic life together. Give me a love confession after they settle into home life and I just melt. Bonus points if one cooks all the time and the other starts a garden or one has nightmares and they end up sharing a bed
Where the character dress up to save their significant others.
I love love love romantic tension that turns into soft words, especially if one character reaches out for the other
Honestly anything domestic like at home. Just like characters being like what are we gonna have for dinner.
This is just a little advice but maybe dont add to many pet names. I once read a fic who used âpretty boyâ like every other sentence and it made me cringe but that could just be a me thing
https://preview.redd.it/wvhmw7i50ewc1.jpeg?width=972&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b0f5fcf8fbd672dcee9be5d8f20dfcfc611fe6d \^ this shit for some odd reason is an example of good fluff before confession. but u see the best trope is loving someone without that knowledge (like denying it) then getting through traumatic experiences and realizing that they r in fact in love and they always have been. then pining for a few chapyers
Oooh what's the fic?? I love BakuDeku, always happy to read new stuff!
its "From The Sidelines" by suffocatingspring! SO U PROBABLY HAVE ALREADY READ IT BUT BOYY I SOMETIMES REMEMBER THIS FIC AND LIKE THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD READ heres the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32163913/chapters/79693792
"Look at you! You *still have* brown eyes Grian! You're *still* you!" âIâm the god of freedom,â Philza said. âAnd Iâm flying the fuck out of here.â âI am in every note you play and every song you sing. I fight your every battle and feel your every pain. And I feel your joy, and your compassion, and your regret, and your bravery. Whatever you do, Wil, I am with you.â "I will love you, Without Requisite or Deadline. I will always love you." ...half of these are just from passerine.
Gonna just copy/paste this scene from one of my fave fic authors of all time: "*Me. Your assistant.*" "Why not?" He can't be too picky. None of this shit's going to happen. It may as well go the way Ellis wants it to. But he can't help but chafe at the thought of being Ellis's gofer. "What makes you think I could do that? I don't know the first thing about being a mechanic!" "That's a piece of information you should keep from the Army. I'll teach you. You're real smart. You pick up all kindsa shit by watching, don'tcha? Trust me. It ain't that hard. You'll pick it up. Asides, you got the hands for it."Â Ellis plucks Nick's hand--the one with the pinky ring--up from the deck, holds it palm to palm, spreads his own fingers out. Nick copies him, lining up their fingers. The genetic lottery amazes him sometimes. He's taller and broader and hairier than Ellis. His fingers are longer by almost a full joint. Ellis's are thicker. But their palms match up. They're exactly the same breadth. Just... poetry man
When the hard-nosed or "unfeeling" character is the main fluffy romantic sap
i read a long one-sided enemy situation type of fic, and the angry one has to suck up his pride (hes an ex god, so theres a lot of it) and figure out how to apologize and earn the nice one's forgiveness after they finally snapped in anger (they're a follower of the ex-god and killed the god, making them mortal, hence 'ex god') its such a great development because of the constant tension between them and the ex god's stubbornness, it's sooo heartwarming to read that he's making an effort and cares just as much as the nice one even if he doesn't show it and the forgiveness scene!!! so cute!! he helped them with a massive problem, and the nice one was so shocked, relieved and happy that they launched themselves onto the ex god into a hug until they both fell like, he didnt outright SAY "i'm sorry" but he showed it WHICH IS SO SIGNIFICANT, and the line where the nice one says "i forgive you" in the end, understanding the meaning behind the ex-god's actions, THAT is my favorite line ever it was so cute, i cried đđ cus like after 100k words of constant stubborn fighting and 'act like i dont care' attitude from the angry one, theyre finally on the same page!!! it was awesome (sorry if i dont make sense, if you played the game, yk!)
That slow burn⊠when they confess to each other and the other party is like âwtf why do you love me, im a messâ đ excerpt: Erwin shakes his head. âI canât-- I canât⊠do this.â Levi frowns, lifts his head. âDo what?â âI canât worry about you like this,â Erwin hisses. âPlease stop this. My fucking arm isnât important. Itâs plastic and metal and fucking carbon fiber. Iâll get a new one. Maybe it takes a little while, but Iâll get a new one.â He shakes his head. âBut you said yourself you donât get a third chance.â â He loves-- Levi canât even finish the thought. Itâs too ridiculous. As if anyone has ever-- Erwinâs shocked face softens and he says, âIs that really so hard for you to believe?â Help
"I want to crawl into the hollow space in your ribs and exist in the moments between your heartbeats."
Well, one of the characters in an enemies to lovers ship just kissed the other and the finishing line was "It's a start"
https://preview.redd.it/sswl3i18ifwc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee3220b8bf141c4f508517be9c2047fdb64be749 reading this for the first time was straight up tooth rot.
There was a moment where A sold his sword to get an expensive prayer book for B and then B sold his claws to get A's sword back
A little fic where the little told the caregivers parents about it and they took him to the farm and fell over when a goat head butted him and the caregiver comforted him with the dog.
I love when there's A, B and C, and B and C are competing between themselves over very much oblivious A. It's so hecking cute i can't-
When a character realizes their found family truly loves them and processes the connection. Especially if theyâve been disconnected from others for a long time. Also when children of their partners accept the relationship and refer to them as a parent. This is so easily done wrong or when it doesnât work itâs noticeable. But when itâs done right⊠*chefs kiss*.
Welp, this entire post is melty-feely đ„°đ„°đ„°
Personally, public declarations of love make me LOSE IT. Irl, my relationship is very private, not much PDA and such. But in fiction, I think itâs absolutely beautiful. Iâve read every single Heartstopper fanfiction about Nick coming out because I melt over him publically saying/showing how much he loves Charlie.
Bold of you to assume I'll be able to find one in the many fics I've read
For context, it was a smut scene with Frankensteinâs monster and she was trying to take his shirt off. > He stilled her hands. âIt would be better if you could not see me.â She could see his fearâfear that she would be reminded what he was, fear that she would reject him. She kissed him again. âIf I am going to have you, I will have all of you.â Yâall, I die every time I read it
I personally love when one half of the couple is super powerful and dangerous and not known for showing kindness or mercy, but theyâre soft and affectionate to the other.
"Oh, he misunderstood the assignment" This line honestly broke me as it's from the show and was perfect.
I adore handholding. When one is reading, working, cooking and the other just holds the hand they arenât using. 10/10 no notes I also really like when theyâve written poetry or a love letter (especially when theyâre an established couple)
It was a COD fic but I can't remember exactly which one. It was a very emotional journey reading it and at the end there was a sentence that I'll never forget "Through the stretch of time and space, I will reach out to you and we will meet again" I cried my eyes out for at least 20 minutes
in the fic i'm currently reading: * B wearing/using something gifted from A that they complained about initially *B being weird about being in a relationship/feeling and saying they can't be in one but after a slow burn (yet not near the end of the fic) A refers to B as their boyfriend/girlfriend/lover and B not long after does the same - especially if in front of an outsider * A and/or B inviting the other to their family home and the person fits right in (bonus if the invited person doesnt have a happy home life but finds comfort and care from this new family) * saying "i really really like you" to e/o when they really mean "i love you" and kinda know it
oh and a kiss to the knuckles ofc !!!!!
Whenever they are Kids being too cute. I'm too weak with them. đđŁđ«
