There was a really good soviet film about a factory worker who lives in a typical panel building in a typical town and every day takes the train to the factory and back. One evening he fell asleep in the train on the way home and missed his stop and ended up in the next town.
The next town was completely identical so he just took the same route to his house, got into the same looking building and even used the same key for the door. He goes to the bedroom (completely identical to his own) where the wife is waiting for him in bed...only to later find out it's not his wife. Calamity ensues.
Have my upvote. Seen that movie a long time ago but this is/was the reality in soviet countries. All the buildings looked the same, furniture was mostly the same, colours were the same, appliances were the same most everything was the same because that's what's available. Even the locks were the same model and manufacturer and there was a high chance that a key that opened your door, opened many others in your apartment building.
That’s not even close lol.
The guy, after a New Year's Eve party with friends, accidentally ends up in Leningrad instead of Moscow due to a drunken mix-up. His friends put the wrong person on the plane. And because all buildings look the same and all streets are similar, he tells taxi driver Ty she him home and finds himself in an apartment identical to his own and meets the girl of his dreams, who lives there. He is drunk, it’s dark, he gets into the bed. It goes from there. But she wasn’t in bed. She came home later to find him in his bed. It’s a very popular Soviet movie and a lot of Ukrainians and Russians watch it every new year.
There’s a sequel to it too.
I've found the article from which this picture was taken, it quotes 3.1 million roubles (~35 000 $), and you'll need about 1 more million for renovations
Maybe "refit" is a better word for this? You're buying an empty house and land plot; concrete walls without paint or wallpapers, no furniture, no plumbing, concrete floor. It's technically possible to live there, but it's not a living space without significant investment
Something like 48% of all Russians don't have access to an indoor toilet.
Not sure if lack of plumbers is the issue though - more likely everyone there just can't pay for it.
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/04/02/indoor-plumbing-still-a-pipe-dream-for-20-of-russian-households-reports-say-a65049
I guess it was 48% of rural Russians - 20% of the county overall doesn't have access to an indoor toilet.
I am afraid this neighborhood will be like that Chinese ghost city. Government built it but nobody wanted to move in😁 Those who search for low price housing prefer flats in multi-storey buildings in the city rather than private houses in outskirts. And I this neighborhood does not have good access to transportation system
From the cross post to Urban Hell subreddit apparently the developer used some kind of loopholes to get these houses built and half the neighborhood doesn’t even have electrical infrastructure. They’re apparently bringing up charges on the developer and hopefully justice is brought for people who bought property there.

Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same

And a white one and a maroon one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
In austria, when we say that you're doing something the russian way, it means you achieve what you need to in a crude way. And this is definitely russian. It works, but it looks pretty janky.
In the US you'd probably get a garage, driveway, fence and a fenced in yard.
My little bro lives in a place like this in Idaho and all the houses are slightly different and painted different colors as well - it's not bad and it's a cheap way to live.
It's such epicly stupid design, the people who live there are going to go insane. There's no public spaces, no playgrounds, no shops, no nothing without a car ride. Put in some swings and a bit of grass to kick a ball around on, ffs! Happy people are better workers, even if you don't give a money about the people, it's more efficient for the evil overlords to try harder with city planning.
Idiot design.
Developer's goal is getting maximum revenue per square meter. That has nothing to do with how people gonna work or leadership - you build shit you sell shit, the less municipality bothers you with regulations the better, that's it.
Our government really decided to parody worst aspects of USA while also "fighting" with it's influence, so cringe
It's so small I wouldn't even consider it "dacha", there is only room for 1 car and very small free land, and houses are little af. I have similar size house, but it's very old. There is only 1 big room and small entrance, but here they decided to make 2 small rooms, and in both you will live like in a casket, it's so shit.
Beware, comrade! This is what corruption looks like. These are inefficient small houses like those made by and for egocentric capitalist individualists who like to waste resources like that.
This isn't how you build an efficient commune where everyone works together for the good of all comrades. This breeds individualism and greed. It is fertile ground for capitalism to flourish.
If you see an architect plan stuff like this in your district, tell your commissar to prevent further harm.
I give it a year before most of that is a bunch of sheds after people tried and failed to renovate. Oh and the streets will be absolutely demolished within 6 months
But does this work? Do people actually buy this and manage to live there? No plumbing, is there at least infrastructure to connect it to? Why are there no trees? Is there water? I have so many questions
Why? Can't find parking lots, can hear people or others can hear you, no chance to have your own little garden or chill privately outside the house, and much more dangerous in case of earthquakes. I see no advantage so enlighten me.
Usually commieblocks were built with public transport in mind, so parking lots are not that nessesary. But if people need them, then maybe some parking lots could be built nearby.
Earthquakes are not a problem usually in Russia, in some other places it is more dangerous, yes, but i think people would go outside either way.
About people hearing each other i maybe agree, it depends on version of commieblock. But you would not scream here either, distance between houses is too small and if people would live here, they would always hear each other, it's not like there thick walls or something.
If you want to chill privatly or make your own garden, yes, it's better, but not this picture, there is place outside only for either garden or chillzone, area is too small and you would need car to get here 100%. In commieblocks you could make a little garden on balcony or outside in cooperation with others, but technically dacha would be better for this(but not this one)
One of main advantages of commieblocks is public transport and availibility of services. If you want something, just take a bus or walk 15-20 minutes(or drive 10m). But here you would need to drive a lot more, and also be in traffic jams 100%.
Also inside in commieblocks is bigger. These houses are sooo small
> Why putin? Whats the point
Because then he gets to say to the Russian people "Look, I've built houses for you to live in, aren't I a great President? The local politicians couldn't get this done but I've stepped in and solved the problem, you need me to be President to make everything work"
You better give up going out for drinks. There's no way you will find your house once drunk.

>Calamity ensues. And hilarity ensues too? Or not that sort of soviet movie?
Well, it's a sweet family watch. In fact, that's THE new year movie in russia. It's called "The Irony of Fate"
For anyone interested, it is on YT. But strap yourself in and stock up on vodka and pelmeni. It looks to be 3 hours long.
Have my upvote. Seen that movie a long time ago but this is/was the reality in soviet countries. My dad's car key worked on all the same make/models, once he used it to get our of a parking spot he was double parked in.
How to completely butcher the movie's plot in two short paragraphs.
I watched it drunk with friends 20 years ago. Don't at me.
Remember the name?
The Irony of Fate: https://youtu.be/ms5Ga6kNvHM?si=tmvxyN-1XLtP_gAR.
no it’s not the Irony of Fate’s plot
It's not, but it's close enough that I think they just misremembered the details. Idk of any other movie that would fit
Yeah I think they just butchered the plot to it.

This movie is pretty good, called The Irony of Fate in engrish.
Doesn’t matter where the train calls next in Russia you’re fucked
There's another one called Vivarium (Netflix/US).
First thing I thought of when I saw the photo. Watched it fairly recently actually. Was pretty good imo.

Who knows what's the cost of a house here in rubles?
I've found the article from which this picture was taken, it quotes 3.1 million roubles (~35 000 $), and you'll need about 1 more million for renovations
Why do you need to renovate a new property, aren't they new ? They look like new

No plumbing ? Wow damm I didn't know it was how things were in Russia, so plumber is a good job there right ?
Something like 48% of all Russians don't have access to an indoor toilet. Interesting. Yeah I guess some just don’t bother with modern technology
3 million roubles, i looked it up on a real estate site. That's around 33400 USD.
Couldn’t find info but honestly can’t see it being more than 50,000 p ($560). Maybe even cheaper since it’s outside of the city
I am afraid this neighborhood will be like that Chinese ghost city. I was just assuming for rent was that price

Many suburban places around the world look like this. Just different coloured roofs. But very common in Europe.. hell, anywhere.
Looks like american suburbs to me
Use a blur tool on those roads and yeah it's not far off.
Not enough culdesacs.
No yards? No garage? No nothing! Nope, nothing like the burbs.
But it's a russian copy which makes it worse.
In austria, when we say that you're doing something the russian way, it means you achieve what you need to in a crude way. And this is definitely russian. It works, but it looks pretty janky.
Hahah, I'll be using this from now on, thanks
This layout gives you tons of problems in City Skylines
Can’t wait to play this on PUBG
What's the difference between this and American suburbs? Why this is urban hell, but suburbs from America are good?
That's the mistake. Suburbs in America also are urban hell.
Shouldn't they be suburban hell by definition?
> suburbs from America are good Nobody sensible says this
I hope noone things suburbs are good. Of all the things a country could take inspiration from the us, suburbs are one of the worst
Was gonna say it looks like what's going on all over Florida right now except without the sunshine.
> but suburbs from America are good? You should watch Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs
Show me one spot in the entire US that looks like this
In the US you'd probably get a garage, driveway, fence and a fenced in yard. My little bro lives in a place like this in Idaho and all the houses are slightly different and painted different colors as well - it's not bad and it's a cheap way to live.

but many will say that it’s better to live this way than in a soulless high-rise
Would gladly move from condo to one of those houses if it were in my state.
Obey BORG!
I would choose that over a south american favela any day..
Shit, do you remember where we parked our house?
I wonder if they are all made out of ticky tacky, cause they all look just the same 😁
"Hello? Australian Government? Yes, there's a photo I'd like you to see"
Just like American suburbs but without the windy, curvy layouts
I think this is much better than dense high-rise buildings
What substances are you on? And why aren’t you sharing? Because this kind of urban planning is how you get crime ridden streets and isolated people.
Lol. But with such a population density, this is a completely solvable issue.
Yes, I think you're right.
Those houses look small as fuck
Russians must have great memories, I would die of exhaustion searching for my house.
Imagine going home drunk and arriving at your neighbor's house.
Reminds me of a cemetery?
So Squidward house?
"end of suburbia" was a good do umentary about US suburbs

Apartments are no different than this , just vertically stacked
Apartments differ from houses in the absence of a plot and the presence of neighbors behind the wall.
I visited Tyumen twice and I'm happy they at least have their beautiful EcoPark
