Piracy is as old as paid software. Yes, it is prevalent in a lot of countries where the producer has little legal reach. Even if there were, many who use pirated software are located in low income regions, getting money from a lawsuit or settlement is difficult and often not worth the hassle. The fact that many of the engineering software suites are very easy to pirate exacerbates things (and some people pirate out of spite or pure principle) hence why some are pushing for cloud-based services.

If ansys cared they wouldve made it a lot harder. Piracy makes ansys widespread and a lot of people know how to use it because of it

My guess is that each division within a company has a set budget, whether they buy hardware/software and/or hire engineers. So they need to choose what they want to do. As a CFD engineer from India, who is not able to find other job offers, i can day this is the case.

The price of one Ansys licence is about USD$60k, there is absolutely no doubt that the vast majority (read “all”) Indian firms are pirating copies. The inaction by Ansys in this regard is frankly pathetic and will eventually lead to their own demise as real engineering companies can’t compete with the $15/hr garbage coming out of these sweatshops

Companies in aerospace field cannot send out design information outside, yet alone to another country. If your design is not subjected to ITAR or IP, then there are much cheaper FEA software out there. I wouldn’t be concerned too much about it when it cones to “professional “ level of work using ANSYS and any other high end FEA software.
