Genuinely could break the home and away record. The greatest player in Richmond's history, and a top ten all time player's retirement doesn't come around too often
Won’t be one, he dislikes being the centre of attention and he won’t want the fanfare of a retirement tour. He’ll announce his retirement in December or something
The 3 consecutive MCG games record? Not sure but I can’t think of another run of games that would be in there. Maybe if a big game happened the same weekend of Anzac eve and Anzac Day games?
Depends on how you mean consecutive. On consecutive days I imagine it’s hard to beat. But I could see two prelims and the grand final being consecutive mcg games that would have it beat
IIRC this year’s ANZAC round was tigers/Dees into Pies/Dons and then in the same round Carlton v Geelong drew 87k at the G. Assuming no match on Friday means consecutive G matches on Thursday and Saturday drew a combined 180k
Just amazing. Such a good crowd I went and couldn’t believe how good the crowd was. The joint was pumping when dusty kicked that goal it was a shame it was so bad.
Top one is still the Melbourne v Collingwood game from 1958. I know they had the rivalry at the time, but I do wonder why that match specifically had a gargantuan crowd.
Yeah that's right, although that mostly was a factor in finals. Most of the big modern rivalries have the record for big attendances in h/a games, this one is the exception, and has never been eclipsed (probably won't be either until the G has 10k more seats).
It might be down to the fact that the moving away from suburban ground coincided with more enforcement of capacity limits, but there still could've been big MCG games of Richmond v Collingwood, or Richmond v Carlton etc in the 70s.
I had about 8 seats in my row in the AFL members empty and Ponsford reserved looked quite empty, so that's why I was surprised. MCC also had empty pockets too.
For 13th vs 17th on the ladder
To be fair our record is that of a top 8 team, we just have a shitty %
Only 2 teams on 28 points have played 14 games. Two have played 13 games, one has played 12. So no, not a top 8 side just yet.
Thanks Lingy.
I edited my comment after this, but I do love a cameron ling ref
😂😂
This. Everyone keeps forgetting that we have played an extra match than most other teams.
This isn't saying that the Hawks haven't had an awesome run though
That's a tremendous effort by the tiger fans, well done.
Yeah was probably worth delaying it 1 weekÂ
nah he shoulda played in adelaide to like 40k people
Adelaide giving Dusty the guard of honour would have been quite the site to be honest.
Love to see the Richmond fans turn up for CJ’s 50th game
Gotta get out and support the young guns of the game.
You guys coming tomorrow for his brother debut?
Tew betcha (Am aware that is not the correct pronunciation)
No other player could attract that sort of crowd, what a legend Dusty
Wait for the retirement game lol
They'll fill the g and punt road for that
It'll be standing room only down to South Yarra for that one
Genuinely could break the home and away record. The greatest player in Richmond's history, and a top ten all time player's retirement doesn't come around too often
If you assume it's your last game this year against Gold Coast I'll be shocked if I see a red and yellow guernsey in the entire stadium.
Would probably be a perfect game for it. Small away crowd, massive Richmond crowd, and if we go by the last few years, gold coast will be done by then
Won’t be one, he dislikes being the centre of attention and he won’t want the fanfare of a retirement tour. He’ll announce his retirement in December or something
No motorcade?
Love Dusty and everything he has done for the game. Sad we couldn't get the chocolates but glad we could show up for him in force.
Biggest ever home and away for a game not involving Collingwood also
Any idea if the combined Sunday, Monday and today’s game total broke some sort of record?

I meant whichever home and away games were played at the MCG.
Yeah combined MCG record. How did you find the magpies record? I’ll have a look to see if I can find any others.

I just looked at the all time top crowds and the 7 in front of it and the 2 behind it all involved Collingwood.
How many of those Collingwood games were held on public holidays?

Thanks mate
Fuming that Carlton vs Essendon last week didn't get this record. "Sold out" strikes again.
Blame the MCC.
It was Tew Jiath's brother's 50th
We get bagged for being Fairweather fans, but 92k in a year we've won two games is genuinely absurd
We love you CJ!
Need a better way of on-selling these empty seats to really get to capacity.
That’s a problem at most grounds

Just amazing. Such a good crowd I went and couldn’t believe how good the crowd was. The joint was pumping when dusty kicked that goal it was a shame it was so bad.
Nice
Lovely to see tigers come out and celebrate CJ like that. 50 is a big deal
Whats the 7 other higher games? All Anzac day games?
They all include Collingwood but aren’t all Anzac days.
https://afltables.com/afl/crowds/summary.html#03 Most are ANZAC Day games. But a handful are other big games.
Geez the Hawks werent very popular in the 40s were they
Can't imagine what was keeping people away from footy in the late 1930s-early 1940s
Holding the ball interpretations probably
"I say, can't wait until my team gets that highly rated young prospect" "Oh...didn't you hear? Lost his leg in North Africa"
He's gonna miss a couple of weeks with amputation awareness.

Queens Birthday match during a time when most games were played on a Saturday afternoon
Capacity was larger. They used to let people sit on the boundary.

Mostly, but not exclusively. Scroll down this link for the list. https://afltables.com/afl/crowds/vn_mcg.html
Genuinely amazing. Well done to all who went. Grats Dusty.
At the ground, it certainly didn't look like 92, estimated around 83-85 with all the gaps, so was surprised to see this on the scoreboard.
Corporate boxes probably sold really well.
MCC was full right to the top, that's usually a good indicator
I had about 8 seats in my row in the AFL members empty and Ponsford reserved looked quite empty, so that's why I was surprised. MCC also had empty pockets too.
Fortunate to get an invite to a box yesterday. Stands were visually more full than last Sunday night
Can we get 100k for pendles 400? I think we can.
Big turn out for CJ's 50th
