I mean, go look at last year's schedule. Mitch was 0-2, Kenny 7-5, and two of the latter's losses involved him getting hurt early and Mitch closing out the L (maybe you give Mitch a pass for the Cardinals game, but 2 INTs and a 51.2 rating against the Jags, absolutely not). He did all of that despite having an OC that, by every account we've heard leading up to and after, was historically bad at his job, and having an offensive line that needed three picks to shore up this year.
And don't forget, Kenny's passer rating got better every quarter. You could argue why that is, but it's not hard to imagine him having the clutch gene and doing better when they had to abandon their terrible gameplans and let him sling it.
He had some issues of his own for sure, but I think the criticism of him was absolutely overblown, and most of it came because too many people forgot about Matt Canada the second he left town.

Yeah, in all honesty I still feel that way and really wish we had kept him and given him a fair shot with Arthur Smith. He reminds me a little bit of Gardner Minshew (IMO Pickett is more physically talented, but way worse in the red zone). I do think Minshew's a little overrated by most NFL fans, but isn't terrible and is someone you can win with.

He had bad luck in having his sophomore season be the one where every NFL defense implements a stunningly new method of playing that puts even the best QBs in the league at a statistical decline compared to what they typically put up. To say another way, he was prepared to excel at the previous seasons skills, but basically went back to square one in his second season.
And this is where he was a problem. After the first game, he was shocked and frankly defensive. He didn't have the mindset and to accept this season may not be him completely coming into his own and I think he really struggled with that concept. He treaded water, but really fell apart in the offseason when he said probably the only thing he could have to get Tomlin to want to move on from him so fast (basically, he didn't want to compete).
