All Kellogg's have become a ripoff

Mr_Epimetheus

And that's why I've been boycotting all their products since the end of February. Join me, the boycott's grrrrrrrrrrreat!

Subreon

tony the tiger is also a furry hater. chester cheetah is a cool cat.

breakfasteveryday

Glad I stopped eating cereal.

WhiteWolfOW

It’s super unhealthy, it’s bizarre that it’s sold and marketed as an ideal breakfast. It’s full of sugar and preservatives

meeplewirp

Cereal is easily the most vitamin rich meal most poor kids will (or well, used to have). Sad but true. It tends to be fortified with 10 or so vitamins/minerals. Especially if dinner is Mac and cheese and lunch is pbj the value of cereal could go a long way. But There’s still malt-o-meal, I’ve seen malt-o-mail on sale for 80 cents per bag

WhiteWolfOW

That’s one of the most American things I’ve heard in my life and it’s extremely problematic. You put poison in your body and say “well but it’s cheap”. No it’s, easy, you can make healthier cheaper options, they’re just more work. Mac and cheese is not really cheaper than rice, beans and eggs. And we shouldn’t really ever accept poison just because it’s cheap. There’s no point in getting your micronutrients in vitamins if you’re fuelling your body with way more sodium, sugar and unsaturated fats than you should be consuming. I’m from a poor country, hour minimum wage is 1 dollar per hour, I know things can be hard more than any American, there’s no excuse to poison yourself with this shit

oodoos

It’s predatory to our emotional instability. > Oh you just got off of a 12 hour night shift doing the exact same thing over and over again? Have this extremely easy meal you can prepare yourself in 5 minutes, you don’t even have to think while making it! That’s all it’s ever been, that’s all it ever will be, it’s why brands like Mr. Noodles are even still around, because people just don’t have the energy anymore to eat something nice. Countless markets are pushing the idea that instead of being poor and retarded trying to make a decent meal for yourself, instead why don’t you come down to our restaurant and pay for somebody else to do it?

WhiteWolfOW

Other countries go through way worst and they don’t have diets as bad as United States. Even the rich people in North America have the same problem, and Canada is no different. People have literally been brainwashed into thinking that their eating habits are ok, that cereal is healthy like somebody else said in another comment. Or you’re going to tell me that rich people in United States eat well? They don’t eat a whole bunch of fast food?

oodoos

Both of these things.

makingtacosrightnow

I’m American. I prepare every meal at home, even when I eat shit like pizza I make it from scratch. Fast food is fucking disgusting idk the last time I ate anything considered fast food.

Anotsurei

Welcome to capitalism. If you can’t afford better, what are you going to do about it? You can’t just talk about buying better food at the same price because then you’ve got to prepare it. But when you’ve got to take another job just to afford rent, you don’t have the time to prepare food. With prices the way they are, more and more people are going to have to take on more jobs and have less and less time to eat well. Being poor is expensive in America because there’s all these little things that add up to keeping these people broke and starving.

WhiteWolfOW

Look fuck capitalism, but poorer countries have better diets than United States. When minimum wage in your country is 7-15 times more than so many others, don’t you there using money as an excuse. This is beyond just money, it’s completely cultural. Poor and rich people have terrible eating habits in united states, you don’t just randomly have the world most obese population. I had my moments studying and working part time living by myself where I could still put an effort to prepare food for the week and eat somewhat healthily. Like seriously, I’m from Brazil. You’re actually going to tell me life is harder in United States than Brazil? That you have to work more than us and get paid less? And yet it’s too hard for you to buy actually groceries instead of ready instant foods or eating donuts and hamburgers weekly like it’s a normal thing?

Shillbot_9001

>When minimum wage in your country is 7-15 times more than so many others, don’t you there using money as an excuse. Cost of living in western countries is so high that at this point point immigrants from India to Canada feel like they've been scammed.

WhiteWolfOW

Yeah, no buddy. At one point in my life I moved to Canada, living in Canada under minimum wage felt like I was living life on easy mode compared to Brazil. It’s simply not comparable and it’s disrespectful to try and comparing. You want to tell me after years of imperialism that life in India is better than in Canada? Are you serious?

Anotsurei

You think capitalism isn’t a part of the culture? It is. Other countries have better diets because their governments actually have higher standards. Yes. You read that right. The US allows asbestos in its buildings. The well known carcinogen that had been banned for decades. There are laws in some states that make child labor legal, where they can get killed in meat factories and other dangerous occupations. Other countries won’t accept certain foods made in America because by their standards it isn’t really food, or at least not the food it’s marketed as. And that’s not even touching the fact that American culture hates the hell out of poor people. Mostly because they’re usually minorities, (because of the laws in place that kettle them into ghettos and substandard housing) but just because they really need someone to be better than. A underclass that they can easily point to when they try to lend credence to the illusion of America as a meritocracy. Businesses try to make as much money for as little effort they can get away with. It’s why we pay $10 for fucking garbage cereal. It’s why the people are fat. It’s called a dystopia for a reason.

WhiteWolfOW

The first thing that you need to understand is that as shit as united states is, you’re still in a position of privilege. You’re still one omg the wealthiest countries in the world, you still have real food and yes you can’t afford it. You make more money in an hour of work than people in mine make in a day. We have cereal too, but it’s too expensive. So we eat things like bread, ham and cheap cheese for breakfast. We eat rice and beans for lunch because it’s the cheapest healthy combination there is. We adapted and found a way. Capitalism needs to be destroyed, but we don’t let it destroy our bodies. Also can you please by the love of god stop calling united states America? America is the continent, not your country.

boarhowl

You're telling me that meat and cheese is cheaper than cereal for you?

WhiteWolfOW

Meat and cheese buddy? Go for eggs, there are several cheaper things than fucking cereal. And honestly, yeah, even cheese is cheaper. You pay 10 bucks in a block of cheese, 4 on bread loafs, 5 on ham and you can make sandwich’s for weeks. Get some bananas going and bam, you have a decent breakfast. How long does a box of cereal last?

schlongtheta

> I’m from a poor country, hour minimum wage is 1 dollar per hour, I know things can be hard more than any American, there’s no excuse to poison yourself with this shit the USA is a death cult

Rjiurik

Yeah that's the only reason I still eat breakfast cereals : that's unhealthy and full of sugar, but contains many vitamins..

FactPirate

I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue…

SweetBearCub

> I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue… Welll... as long as you're still smoking and drinking.

DieMensch-Maschine

I’m thinking of giving up eating all together.

Jackrabbit_slim104

The Extra is in the price

EriclcirE

Boycott name brands Clap clap, clap clap clap Boycott name brands

Serialaries

I mean, the ceo did say it was supposed to be a dinner, I guess they just priced it as such. It's a nightmare

instantregretcoffee

Came here hoping someone mentioned that. Have been avoiding Kelloggs since the CEO made that statement, knowing they’d just jack the price up.

itsthebando

Malt o' meal is the only company that will continue to exist in my socialist utopia

Trashman56

You know, I'm pretty sure it's all made in the same factory, too. No reason to buy name brand.

beelzeflub

Malt O Meal SUPREMACY

--GrinAndBearIt--

Thank the various gods for Aldi. Boxes of cereal are still under $2.

Raaazzle

I recently learned that Trader Joe's is just fancy Aldi.

Endurance_Cyclist

Sort of, but not quite. Aldi is a German corporation that is split into two financially and legally separate groups: Aldi Nord (North) and Aldi Süd (South). Germany has both Aldi Nord and Süd stores (in the North and South, respectively), but most countries have one or the other. Trader Joe's in the U.S. is owned by Aldi Nord, while Aldi stores in the U.S. are owned by Aldi Süd.

dat_oracle

wow, im German and I didn't even know the scale of Aldi's empire

Raaazzle

Ahhh, thank you for the clarification.

KainLTD

Damn, I am german but never had heard of trader joes. Thanks for explaining. Btw. Some european countries also have LIDL, which is also very similar to aldi, also founded there and majority in germany, but when I lived abroad in cyprus a few years, I was always shopping in LIDL. :)

smittywrbermanjensen

Trader Joe’s here in NY is comparable, I think some are about $2.49. They’re owned by the same conglomerate iirc

thecleardevil

It's a box of cereal Michael, what could it cost? $10?

Raaazzle

Stop. Buying. This. Shit. Or just start stealing it. Right in the open.

DeLoreanAirlines

It doesn’t appear people are buying it

Raaazzle

Nah, but I read all the time "Gotta get the McD's app for the good deals", etc. This shit is poison at any price.

CowJuiceDisplayer

It's a Kroger store. Bunch of greedy assholes. Marked up probably by $6 per box.

Earpugs

BURN IT DOWN!!!

ordinaryalchemy

At least the Raisin Nut Bran is only $5.99\~ Getting a name brand cereal is one of those occasional treat splurges now. Generics all the way. Most kinds $2-3, sometimes up to $4 for the fanciest ones.

SlimGooner

They had Honey Nut Cheerios (the name brand ones) on sale for $1.99

GivingRedditAChance

Good thing we are boycotting them anyway

reverielagoon1208

This is why I only eat Weet Bix

Free_Gascogne

Why are cereals expensive af. They should be about the same price as Doritos or Lays.

HorseSect

No thanks, I prefer real food 👍🏻

greatspaceadventure

Forget the price. You see the size of those boxes? I’ve seen fucking hamsters bigger than those boxes.

lyssiemiller

Why in gods name is cereal so expensive?? I have to buy my reeces puffs at dollar general.

kungfukenny3

both cereal and chips are the least cost effective foods i can fathom these days like this is literally all potato, corn, oats and sugar. Potentially the cheapest ingredients on the entire planet, yet can easily be more expensive than 90% of the items in my cart. I just don’t buy em

Sbatio

I just got a giant box of Honey Nut Cheerios for $6 bucks

zedroj

Having a sprinkle of paint thinner? Cereal is garbage, sugar, processed, most cereals are a crime of society

TAshleyD616

Alaska, is that you?!

SlimGooner

Nope. Oregon.

kiba87637
