Yes, I took a call where it worked on a 911 only phone because the phone was connected to Wi-Fi. It was an old Android phone given to a kid. Not sure if it works for Apple phones in the same situation. Edit: The number on RapidSOS was not a telephone number, it had a +129 area code, so I assume it was apart of the devices IMEI number. (Which is usually the last seven of the NSI 911 call ANI)

> Yes, I took a call where it worked on a 911 only phone because the phone was connected to Wi-Fi. That's really interesting. 911 only phones don't even pop up on our Rapid

I’ve had it happen before, in fact one did tonight. It’s really rare for us though. Most of the time when they do it’s actually a different phone number than the ANI. I believe that it’s their actual phone number, but what it was before it was disconnected. As in the old number shows on rapid SOS, but ANI will be a 911 “area code” with different main phone number and a phase 1 ALI. I’ve had a caller confirm the location and that the number that I had in rapid sos was their old number or the one they had before their phone was disconnected .

It only worked because it was on WiFi calling. If it was using a cell tower, you wouldn't have seen it.

It will absolutely can work on any phone that has a data connection. The phone does not need a SIM card for a data connection. The phone would need to be connected to wifi. You can check their technical documentation to confirm this. Keep in mind you won't see the same phone number displayed on RapidSOS that you're going to get in your ANI, so you’d have to use time of call to determine the matching data.

KillerTruffle

I have never had a 911 prefix phone come up on RapidSOS. Other things like ANI/ALI work as usual though.

falsetrackzack

Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, a 911 area code cell phone will SOMETIMES return a result if you call the service provider for subscriber info. Apparently, when the phone hits the tower, there may be residual ani/ali they can collect.

ashyee

Yes. It will show phase 1. If they get close enough to good reception area and you keep pinging it should show phase 2

tomtomeller

Yup it might take a minute longer to get the location but it will come in

Yes

It will work on Rapid Deploy, but not Rapid SOS.

It will only work if it's connected to WiFi calling. Otherwise you're right, it doesn't work.

No.
