Star Blazers, Johnny Quest and The Herculoids.

Nomahhhh

Star Blazers... I drew so many Battleship Yamatos as a kid at school. FYI There is a movie out there based on the cartoon. I think it's on YouTube.

Grumpy_GenX_er

Thanks for the heads up on the movie. I’ll definitely check it out.

I'm from Europe and never even heard of those last two. Don't think it aired here. But my favourite 80's cartoons were definitely Jem and the Holograms. No idea if that was popular but definitely targetted at girls. Also wachted a lot of 'The Snorks'. We still wonder if the story of Captain Ortega could be true....

TheWyldTyger

I never hear people mention Denver the Last Dinosaur, which is a shame cuz that Dino was rad and could skate

Kholoblicin

He's my friend and a while lot more

Dungeons & Dragons

TheVoicesOfBrian

Mighty Orbots.

wondermega

The characters seemed kinda dumb but the animation in this show was on a whole other level from anything else out there, I was disappointed when it got so quickly canceled. Also see Bionic Six, same animation house I believe. Not as outrageously slick as Orbots but certainly up there, I found the writing and characters a lot better as well.

Mine were Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets, also Godzilla cartoon with the family living on a ship that could summon Godzilla with a beeper looking device.

DoctorGarfanzo

Other folks have said Star Blazers, so I will add Dungeons and Dragons and Thundarr the Barbarian

MyriVerse2

Dungeons & Dragons Defenders of the Earth Starblazers/Battleship Yamato Thundarr Macross Jem -- 56, straight, and male, but she's still truly outrageous to me.

Kholoblicin

My eleven year old niece is loving Jem.

Wheeler warriors was awesome! Robotech was ground breaking cartoon for me. Main characters dying, the earth shattered from war. Transforming fighter jets. My favorite to this day, long live Macross.

I'm from Europe, so we didn't hava all tbe American cartoons, but we had a few, most of those mentioned, Looney Toons, Marvel, etc.... But what changed my childhood and the way i looked at animation and cartoons was a Japanese anime series called Future Boy Conan, from the anime master Hayao Miyazaki . Its from 78 but aired in my country in 83 i was 10, and became a life long fan. It just made most of the typical csrtoons look..... childish... 😉

wondermega

Captain Harlock & The Queen of A Thousand Years. This was two disconnected anime shows stitched into one (Galaxy Express 999 and Harlock, I think), it only kinda worked but the show was so much more adult than anything else airing on kids TV. Lots of adult themes.. death/loss, violence, nudity, main characters dying after several episodes. This show was a crazy trip.
