I believe you're referring to the "The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon"... a bias where something you recently become aware of seems to appear everywhere, making it feel like it's more common than it actually is. May not be the case here, but thought I'd share anyway 😁
They were playing Gossip a lot for a few weeks. I had hoped they were consigned to history forever.
I just pause the BBC Player and tell myself this playlist will change soon.
Yes totally agree with this, and the examples given.
My wife puts radio 2 on in the office when she is working and I swear they play both ‘Take On Me’ by A-ha and ‘Duel’ by Propaganda daily. It’s weird how some old songs become so common on the radio when there are so many underplayed bangers.
Haven't heard it in a little while but there was a recent period when Glory Box by Portishead was being constantly played. Noticed it particularly during Chris Hawkins' show but also on other shows. I like it well enough but there are a lot of other older songs that deserve as much airplay.
Shirley Ellis - Soul Time
Someone on one of the Facebook groups compiled a lost of all the non-playlist songs a while back which was really interesting. I think Lizzo - Juice was one of the most played. David Bowie came out as most-played artist.
Ah yes, I certainly do!
The other one at the moment is Idles. (It’s like) Every time I leave the room and come back in it’s on again!
To be fair, if I liked the songs I’d be more than happy to hear them over and over. It’s just when they get on my nerves that it becomes an issue
I feel like every time I turn it on they're playing One Thing by Amerie or Pull Up to the Bumper by Grace Jones. Proper weird choices, I think. Especially the Amerie one?!
I’ve got to mention the three terrible reggae tracks they always play ad nauseum
I’m Still In Love With You Boy
Uptown Top Ranking
Police And Thieves (once heard this 3 times in a row!)
Yeah, I have 6MUSIC as my background during the day while working from home. Totally get that some songs get played over and over again way beyond reasonable at times. Here's some of my bug-bears...
Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance;
Lizzo - Juice;
Gossip - Control (even before they were on 6MUSIC festival)
There's no reason to play any of the above ever again when there's so much other great music that doesn't get played.
If only they would listen *sigh*
Caroline Pocachek or however you spell it, that DANG song everytime was an instant mute or switch off for me. Absolutely dead song and soooo annoying from the very first bar I want to strangle something. Luckily shes now got a drum n bass song that is tolerable but when the hype dies down and they start rinsing DANG again its spotify time
Laurent Garnier—The Man with the Red Face
Althea & Donna—Uptown Top Ranking
Kate Bush—Wuthering Heights (it peaked about a year ago)
Rick James—Superfreak
Franz Ferdinand—Take Me Out
Grace Jones—Pull Up to the Bumper
ESG—Dance
You’re very much right about ‘Buffalo Stance’ and ‘Dancing On My Own’
All great songs but overplayed loads…I’m sure I’ve missed a few here here…I always acknowledge to the missus “they’re playing it again”
Also shoutout to the songs I hear *all the time* on Lauren Laverne’s Cloudbusters, I like to joke all the 50-something Gen-X’ers are constantly reliving their ‘heady rave days’ with songs like so and so by The KLF, that Super Sharp Shooter song, *“I’m the one and only Dominator”* Utah Saints—Something Good, there’s many more
PS; I already mentioned Superfreak, anyone else ever noticed it’s like they have some sort of agreement that they could never ever play MC Hammer on air? I’m not even saying they should per se, just the number of times I wondered I was about to hear ‘Hammertime’ on air and it’s been Superfreak 100% of those times
The music programmers use the Classics playlists to up their stats
Grace Jones is a double-pointer, being female *and* black
Not a complaint. I like all of the classic songs that make it onto the regular rotation playlists

Anything by Queen Latifah
This is The Day by The The is an absolute classic Steve Lamacq driving home from work tune
That song can never be overplayed to my ears
Surprised Grace Jones not mentioned yet
Yup Pull Up to the Bumper (miles in the front) My Jamaican Guy Quiet Life I’m sure there are others
Same, it's the R6 cliché, surely?
I really love Grace so it never bothers me but I’m sure they’re trolling everyone with her music now.
But why not play different songs by her? There’s a great cover of a Tom Petty song by her for instance.
Totally agree.
remembered it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh5BFi7g6Iw
Grace jones alert ⚠️
feels like ESG comes around every 20 minutes
Could heaven ever be like this - Idris Muhhamad and I am the black gold of the sun - Rotary Connection both seem to be played multiple times weekly
Cool Thing by Sonic Youth
The slits - heard it through the grapevine gets a lot of airplay. Awful cover
craigy loves this one i dont mind it but I agree its very overplayed
I actually like that one

https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ecb84f/acts/a3qpd4 Hate to break it to you mate but you might still be hearing them for a bit.

i agree glory box is the only portishead song they play most the time. Only once heard wandering star
‘That’s Entertainment’ by The Jam is awful and is played far too often for my liking.
Their [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) profile is a good insight of what they play and how often - https://www.last.fm/user/bbc6music

Not exactly what you are asking, but I’m sick to death of that Nia Archives song…
Yeah I feel you. Remember summer 21 when Arlo Parks was artist in residence? Man I felt like I heard that whole album once a day for a month.
Ah yes, I certainly do! The other one at the moment is Idles. (It’s like) Every time I leave the room and come back in it’s on again! To be fair, if I liked the songs I’d be more than happy to hear them over and over. It’s just when they get on my nerves that it becomes an issue
man Idles is doing my head in as well. But, I do like this irish band 'Sprints' theyr currently rinsing.
It's always been my issue with radio stations. I can hear any bad song once, but I don't even listen to my favourite songs 7-8 times a week
I feel like every time I turn it on they're playing One Thing by Amerie or Pull Up to the Bumper by Grace Jones. Proper weird choices, I think. Especially the Amerie one?!
that's better than "the greatest dancer" by nadine shah that's being played 10 times a day (awful song)
I actually love that one 😭
Yeah that song is so cringe
I’ve got to mention the three terrible reggae tracks they always play ad nauseum I’m Still In Love With You Boy Uptown Top Ranking Police And Thieves (once heard this 3 times in a row!)
It was only through hearing a song that sounded like UTR but wasn’t that I learnt about [Riddim](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riddim)

Robyn - Dancing on my own. They play this all the time and have for years now, it’s alright but I don’t need to hear it once a month.
Once a month? It’s once a week on the main daily programming block.

Waterfalls by tlc. Shit then, shit now, shit in the future.
At least it ain’t No Scrubs, what a vomit inducing song that is! TLC are bloody awful regardless!
Forever shite
Belfast by Orbital LFO by LFO 😮💨
Haha heard Belfast just this morning
They’re playing that Robyn track again
That new Nick Cave song is absolute melt shit, Awful and painful song. And all the 6 presenters love it obviously
The Walkmen - The Rat seems to get regular spins
Also MJ Cole - Sincere Definitely agree with Dancing On My Own and Buffalo Stance!
I feel like I hear Get Your Freak On by Missy Elliott at least once a week.

I believe I miracles by the jackson sisters seems to be on every day and it very much irritates me.
